COLUMBIA COUNTY, Ga. (WRDW/WAGT) -- The Columbia County Sheriff’s Office says they will be holding a news conference before noon Wednesday morning.

Major Steve Morris says something was discovered in the dumpsters behind Walmart in Grovetown Tuesday afternoon.

Witnesses tell News 12 there was a lot of police presence.

There were no specific details about what the topic of the news conference will be about.

Oh no! Does not sound good.

Thanks for the updates, sad as they are. The reporting at Iwatchingeye's link is pretty good, at least way better than what we frequently see in missing persons cases (e.g., Mollie Tibbets). It's interesting that LE initially said that she was taken from the home unwillingly, but later (now) say evidence indicates she was killed in her home. So, they've known they were looking for her body all this time. :( I'm so sad for this outcome. I'm guessing they do not have any good images from the numerous surveillance systems they mention near her home or they'd have released something to the public.

How sad :( RIP Ms. Andrya. So sorry for you, you didn't deserve your life to be taken.

Yes i agree the Mollie Tibbetts case is so frustrating virtually no real information and so much incorrect information it seems.

Some points from the presser:
Police reiterated they are 99% sure she new her attacker(s)...
They say the crime scene was cleaned up but they have DNA...
My main Question: how did the investigation lead them to the dumpster where she was found without her phone being with her or without someone leading them there. (They say no suspects in custody)
Just some thoughts.

Could have been an unpleasant smell?

Maybe the body was wrapped in trash bags? LE could have found trash bags at the crime scene and put 2 and 2 together. That's a total guess on my part, but it's something that could have pointed to a dumpster.

Officers performing a welfare check at DeGhelder’s home in Grovetown’s Ivy Falls subdivision July 26 discovered evidence suggesting she was taken from the home against her will.

Authorities did not immediately disclose details about the specific evidence or clues that led them to the dumpster, or about people they consider involved in her death. The dumpster, which was taken to the sheriff’s office late Tuesday to be examined more closely, was behind the Walmart and Dollar Tree stores at the Gateway Shopping Center on Lewiston Road.

The Sheriff also declined to elaborate on previous reports that investigators were examining DeGhelder’s cell phone, and that she had been frequenting several online dating sites.

A social media account in DeGhelder’s name lists her as a medical technologist who worked at the Charlie Norwood VA Medical Center in Augusta. She also wrote a blog in 2011 and 2012 about being diagnosed with aplastic anemia, a blood disorder in which the body stops producing enough new blood cells.

She married [snipped] in 2002, and they had a son in 2011. He filed for divorce in June 2017. The divorce became final four months later.

This is so sad. They haven't said if the POI would be someone she met on one of the dating websites, but as I have told my adult daughter and single friends, use such sites with caution. Over 39,000 sexual offenders are listed on dating sites such as Match.com. (info from the attached link). If you’re worried about one of your online matches, you can refer to the National Sex Offender Public Website’s sex offender registry, where you can search by name and location. I used this when we moved to a new house to find that a convicted rapist lived in our Village. The house has since been torn down, but I made it a point never to walk in that particular neighborhood. “The Dangers of Online Dating” — (7 Statistics & 5 Ways to Protect Yourself)

Authorities have not said they have any suspects or POIs. This posting an hour ago makes me slightly concerned they are running out of leads

Latest article has new information: New details in DeGhelder case reveal evidence found in home, warrants for cell phone records

Columbia County Sheriff's Office Major Steve Morris says there are a number of warrants in this case to obtain cell phone records from different people.
...
Now, we're learning what investigators found behind that door that led them to believe DeGhelder was beaten and kidnaped before they discovered her body, last week.
...
"From what I understand, there was no sign of breaking in as far as the house is concerned. I mean she opened her door to somebody who treated her poorly after she opened the door," said Neighbor Jim Zeiler.

Investigators didn't find DeGhelder but they did find several rooms in disarray with her purse strewn around the kitchen floor.

There were clothes on the floor of the master bedroom with blood on them.

There were more clues that something was wrong.

Deputies found blood on the kitchen floor, hallway and master bedroom.

More blood was found in the bed located in the master bedroom.
...
Investigators believe whoever killed DeGhelder knew her because there was no forced entry, all the doors were locked and the garage door was closed.
...
Investigators tell us they aren't commenting on any suspects or releasing details on the case.

DeGhelder's cause of death has been ruled strangulation.

I hope they have enough information to find her killer. Interesting that there is no evidence of forced entry, but probably a serious struggle once in the house.

Search warrants reveal what officers found in home of then-missing Grovetown woman
Investigator Robbie Ellis wrote that several rooms in the Great Falls home were in disarray and the contents of DeGhelder’s purse were scattered on the kitchen floor. Clothing, some of it with suspected blood stains, was found strewn on a bedroom floor.

Ellis requested the search warrant to obtain the phone records for the pink iPhone 7 found in DeGhelder’s living room to find out who contacted her between July 19 and 26. She was last seen by friends July 25.
