Thanks Carolina & welcome to WS!

I circled the Dermond's property in yellow. For satellite views, search maps for "Carolyn Dr, Eatonton, GA."

I think its near impossible for Mr. Dermond to have been murdered there at the house, especially if everything was "immaculate." But that begs a bigger question? Where was he murdered...and why would they even bother bringing him back? How would they bring him back without making a huge mess?
And why would they take Mrs. Dermond?
Thank goodness for the FBI. I think they might be the only ones who can crack this....

My sister-in-law and family live on this lake in a similar neighborhood also with million-dollar homes. The police are not accustomed to dealing with much crime, especially one this heinous. No wonder they're stumped and asking for assistance.

Also, I just can't help thinking there is more to this than meets the eye. They were from New Jersey? Became wealthy through owning fast-food restaurants? This crime was up-close and personal. I hate to say it, but: Mrs.D may be "swimming with the fishes."

This has organized crime written all over it, IMHO.

I just heard about this case today, for the first time, and I can't imagine how frustrated LE must be. This is unlike any case I think I've ever seen.

Since I'm late, maybe someone can fill me in- has anyone (i.e.- the couples children, etc.) been ruled out by LE or is "everyone a suspect"?

Am I right in thinking that one could actually boat from this lake into the oconee river and on to the Atlantic Ocean? Anyone from the area and familiar with the river ways?

The recent mentions of organized crime had me thinking entirely in the wrong direction. I think LE is thinking more Mexican cartels.

Is it possible the Dermonds saw something on the lake they shouldn't have? Perhaps an alternative pathway for moving drugs thru the state?

There have been a lot of articles about the cartels setting up shop in areas like Atlanta and Louisville.

My son who is LE was out of town this past week when the story broke. I was telling him about cause he knows the mutual person that I spoke of earlier in the thread, his first response was Drug related! Mexican cartel. Just an opinion though .

Oh and that was the other thing my son said, that the wife is also deceased somewhere too. He said probably same manner.

This was just him speaking on a LE level, no proof of such.

http://www.drugalcoholrehab.net/georgia/Lake-Oconee.html

An article about drug trafficking on the very lake we are talking about...

quote from this site:

Types of Drug Rehab and Alcoholism Treatment Programs in Lake Oconee, Georgia

Breaking free from addiction usually requires intervention and professional treatment.

NOW WHAT IS STATHUS AGAIN? And HOW did RD get involved with and retire from that after extensive restaurant and real estate profession?

INteresting article tho, drugs are everwhere, I dont' think there is a major waterway to the coast but Ocmulgee does, but it's too shallow in many places I think, I know Macon is shallow most of the time, used to be dredged back when boat trade was abundant on that river

Rumor from a friend in Greensboro...money in wallet.

I just don't think someone would've murdered & beheaded one victim, keeping the head, and kidnapping the other victim, all for cash in someone's wallet. These are million dollar homes in this neighborhood. I think the place would've been trashed and silver, jewelry, money, etc taken if this were just a burglary.

And if it were a robbery I don't think they would've gone to the trouble to behead the man and kidnap the elderly woman. They would've been killed quickly and the robbers get their loot and go.

why would they risk bringing him back? I think it was on site

I have a friend who is in LE here in Covington (about 1/2 hour from Lake Oconee), and we were talking about this case yesterday. He knows Sheriff Sills personally, and said if anyone can get to the bottom of this, Sills can. He said Sills is a "bulldog" and will never give up on this until he solves it... I hope they find out what happened to this poor couple, for the family's sake. I have several friends who live on the lake, and they're pretty freaked out.

All comments are just my personal opinion.

Just from pulling the map up it looks like there are a number of homes on the lake with docks/boat slips.
I don't think anyone would have to trespass to get to their home.
I have heard there are boat ramps open 24/7.

I wonder if the cameras in the neighborhood are still broken.
I wonder if others are installing security systems now that they realize the guard gate does nothing to prevent a predator from harming someone in the neighborhood.

When this first happened there was link that had very good video footage from a media helicopter that showed not only the Dermond home but his boat dock and water as well. So they could have come directly onto his property from his own boat dock.

But I am not convinced they came in by boat. Now they may have left by boat. I thought I read that someone heard a boat out on the water around 2am but that isn't uncommon since plenty of people night fish this time of year.

I think they were already there in the community and came on foot and then may have left in a vehicle especially if they knew the cameras weren't working.

Unless offender knew exactly what they were looking for.

Does that mean he was alive when they beheaded him? Oh my, so sad.

No, Queen. His head was decapitated after he was killed.

They know he died from cranial trauma since they didn't find any trauma on his body anywhere.

He was most likely shot in the head at close range.

IMO

Ahh ha!

The elder Dermond lived a few miles from me from the late 80's until the late 90's.
In the posh Atlanta Country club it seems.

"The elder Dermonds, after living a number of years in a country-club community along the Chattahoochee River above Interstate 285, built their retirement home on Oconee in the late 1990s."
That explains the Marietta connection.

I thought if the Mexican cartel or some other big time drug people killed family members, it was to send a message to the druggie in the family. But Mark is deceased. Sooo why would anyone related to drugs kill these people (or kill one and abduct the other)?
Truly baffling....

I have looked and can not find Mark's obit. My mom died in 1991 and I can still find hers.
