Would the GBI become involved based on family's request? I thought the request would have to come from local authority (Sheriff Sills). I may be wrong but I seem to recall the GBI being involved in the beginning. Their lab perhaps?

Yes, lab and the GBI rumors says they were kicked out of the investigation, LOL

This article might give a clue as to why mugshots dot com has her listed that way: (IMOO.)

http://www.cnn.com/2014/05/14/justice/georgia-elderly-man-decapitated/index.html

Snipped By Me...

"It will pay "up to $20,000 for information leading to the location of Shirley Wilcox Dermond and/or the arrest of the individual(s) responsible for her disappearance," Special Agent Stephen Emmett of the FBI's Atlanta office said Wednesday."

I see that Shirley is not listed on the FBI's site, so maybe it's just mugshots dot com who hasn't updated?

:jawdrop: Did you see the alias listed? This is strange. Bizarre. Hmmmm...

The way I understand how those "aliases" are often sourced in these kinds of records, they likely don't mean much as far as criminal motivation, etc. -- often they are just variations on a name that have somehow gotten goofed up in mail/public record databases, etc. Even the one that is the brother's name I wouldn't think much of, normally, except, well ... one of the charges listed down under is "impersonating another"...? But IDK.

Dang. I remember the first time I saw a photo of MD and it was a black male, but it wasn't this photo.

Pretty sure this is still the same photo I first found, because I remember thinking, Wow, that guy looks as if he might be a BIG guy! And the photo still strikes that impression, for me.

Sorry, we couldn't find any offender records
that matched your specifications.
You have searched for offenders that have the following:

CURRENT STATUS = ACTIVE
LAST NAME = dermond(*)

You have to select "active AND inactive", as MD was not incarcerated at the time of his death.

I haven't checked ancestry but... I'm of the opinion that the one w/the mugshot was born August 1. While the son of the Dermonds' was born August 30.

Ooops, meant to include my reply to you in the multi-quoted reply I just did on this topic, but somehow missed you.

I'm pretty certain that the RECORD that comes up does indeed belong to MD, son of Shirley and Russell -- it squares with some of the stuff that was reported earlier in MSM, as far as the record. It's just that, obviously, the photo doesn't fit.

I'm one who hasn't been particularly upset that Sills did not formally call in the GBI...although it would not surprise me one tad bit if he has a trusted GBI agent or two working on it in some capacity, at some level. Just figure, he has his reasons...and, since he has had the FBI and other agencies and other LE individuals working with him at various points in the case, I don't think it is that he is going for all/any "glory" related to solving the case. I think he believes he is the best situated to solve it, and I can't fault him for wanting to pick and choose his assistance. He and I may both be wrong, but that's just how I see it.

I've been following the Georgia Bureau of Investigations' social media closely since the Dermond murders. They have assisted many city and county law enforcement agencies across Georgia over the past year. They have been instrumental in bringing about successful conclusions in many murder investigations including one Atlanta serial killer.. While monitoring the GBI facebook page tonight, I noticed where they recently assisted LEAs in multiple GA cities and counties in a child sex sting operation; https://www.facebook.com/Georgia.Bureau.of.Investigation?fref=ts

Child sex sting: GBI arrests 22 people from Georgia, elsewhere <AJC> Monday, May 18, 2015
http://www.ajc.com/news/news/state-...ing-gbi-arrests-22-people-from-georgia/nmJY7/
GBI agents in their most recent child-predator sting, busted, among others, a soldier, a jailer, an actor, and a funeral director.

The Georgia Bureau of Investigation task force arrested 22 people in middle Georgia since last Thursday and charged them with attempted child molestation because of attempts to meet who they thought were underage teens for sex.

The GBI partnered with the Richmond County Sheriff’s office in “Operation Mayday” targeting potential child molesters in Internet chat rooms, many of whom traveled for their “dates.” The GBI credited police agencies from across Georgia for assisting in the task force, including Atlanta, Alpharetta, Kennesaw, Woodstock, Carrollton, Columbus and DeKalb, Coweta and Cobb counties.

JMO but not that bizarre. It could simply be that he was approached on one occasion by a police officer who asked his name and he said "errr....Keith". The alias section on these records takes a very loose approach to the definition of "alias", it's really more just another box where they're trying to collect and hold on to as much information as they can about a person.

DAMIFINO, the GBI didn't refuse to help Sheriff Sills. In the Dwight York-NC investigation by Sills, there were parallel investigations in progress.
One was over land use and zoning violations, which was highly publicized. Due to an NC member whistleblower's tip, a 2nd investigation of racketeering and child molestation by DMZ York was privately being conducted. As in the Dermond murder investigation, the FBI assisted Sheriff Sills. GA Governor Roy Barnes refused to allow the GBI to assist in the investigation of the Nuwaubians/Dwight MZ York, for political reasons.
As was Reynolds Plantation/Great Waters, Tama-RE; the NC compound was a prior hunting and fishing club. Sheriff Sills caught two GBI Agents fishing in a lake on the NC compound. Sills thought that the GBI may have been infiltrated by the Nuwaubians, or that the agents may leak info of the child molestation investigation..

I know this is kind of way out, but does anyone else following the horrific Washington DC case see some similarities with this case?
I didn't until I heard Nancy Grace mention last night that a knife was used. As I listened more intently, I picked up on the rich and exclusive neighborhood and the security system that didn't work and no sign of forced entry. I am beginning to wonder if the suspect had been in GA last year trying to perfect his criminal intentions?

Police Chief Cathy Lanier said all four were homicide victims, and at least three of them suffered stab wounds or blunt-force injuries.

Your Welcome, DAMIFINO..

A few of us have done a lot of research on the Dwight York-NC investigation by Sheriff Sills. There is a thread in the parking lot if anyone is interested;

If we are to believe statements made by law enforcement thus far, here are a few highlights:

1) Whoever did this, isn't from around here.
2) The Dermonds 'knew' their killer(s).
3) whoever did it, was at least familiar with the area.
4) Two weeks prior, the security system within the home showed some sort of 'anomaly' or tampering. In that time frame, family was visiting (daughter and at least the eldest son, possibly all three children and the husband)

5) if I remember correctly, the FBI mentioned that the killer may have been seen in a canoe prior to the murders
6) Sills says the killer likes guns and knives.
7) a family member was questioned with a firmer tone and referred to as a 'she'.
8) Sills said he doesn't believe the 'immediate' family members are involved.

Reading all 8 of these statements together, it sounds like maybe it was someone that the visiting family might have known as well, and I wonder if the visiting family brought any Guests over, say at the time the security camera anomaly was going on?
Just throwing out ideas.
IMOO.

That's what I was thinking too.

and I know it's like beating a dead horse, but I'm still confused as to why it has NEVER been mentioned in any article anywhere that the Dermonds lived in Paradise Valley, Az. I have posted links to house deeds and even yearbooks. They 100% lived there, yet it is never mentioned. And the clock company had no offices there?
