I know the community is private but I would love to see a photo, video (or at least a visual description of area) of the ramp where it's likely the killers entered the lake. Are there homes nearby? Is it a lighted area? I remember (last summer maybe?) digging around for internet pics of houses for sale in the area... attempting to view boat access. I posted some of the info here but I don't think it was of any value.

"Into The Case" certainly has my rusty mental wheels churning.

Haven’t looked into this case very closely. I only listened to the podcast. But the one theory that wasn’t mentioned was the possibility of mistaken identity. When there is no discernible motive and no suspects, that’s something to look at.

I hope that LE looked at the other residents of that community. At night, in a boat in an area you aren’t familiar with, it would be very easy for a hit man to choose the wrong cove and wrong house.

I haven't had a chance to listen to the podcast yet, but I have followed this case closely, and think this is definitely a viable theory that should be looked into. I just watched an episode of Home Alone on DiscoveryID about a very similar case where robbers heard that there was a safe with lots of inheritance money in it but got the wrong house. If that were the case I would expect there to be a lot more damage/things stolen, but still it's absolutely worth looking at to see if anyone that lived close to them had any circumstances that might make them a target.

I still pretty firmly have my own theories about this that this was not random at all. There are elements of this crime that, IMO, were definitely staged, others that weren't, and if those can be sorted out, perhaps that will provide more insights into why this was done and then, who. I definitely lean towards hired hit, non-mafia or not cult.

I had something come up so we had to change plans. So we will be there, February 26th in the evening, all day the 27th and leaving in the morning on the 28th. :)
Levi-

Have you requested interviews with any of the children to get their thoughts and theories?

The episode will be up today. Had some horrible headaches the last two days and it prevented me from finishing up the editing. My apologies for the delay!

No apologies needed! This episode was awesome! I feel like we really got into the details this 2nd episode. I’ve often wondered about this being a vendetta from someone possibly fired from or slighted at one of the Dermond’s Hardee’s restaurants. I think it will be a super daunting task to try to investigate that. So many employees, so many managers, so many years... I’m really excited to keep listening. Great job!

(And I hope your headaches are gone/get better. I have frequent migraines and it’s a special kind of Hades. Ugh!)

My new question/s for the day.... Anyone remember any killer/cleaners (yep, the type that do both) apprehended in the US in recent (10?) years?? Any info available on this type of perp? I've never considered a Ray Donovan type. I suppose they actually exist ??? Nawww... Can't be the perps in this case... We'd be looking at a lot bigger $$ and a lot bigger fish.

I'm going to Lake Oconee and will be out on a boat at the end of the month. Hopefully it is warm enough I can get some good pictures!

Thanks to the help of a very nice Websleuths member that did a ton of research on the case we found a lawsuit. Could be nothing. Slip and fall, or something minor. But we are going to see if we can get the court records.

Sorry you get migraines frequently! It is no fun.

Just started listening to part 2......all the reward money was said to have been refunded after 1 year if no arrest ocurred. Per SS

Thanks for more autopsy information! I like this coroners informative comments.

-May... doors likely unlocked (but not if at or before dawn) no forced entry
-Luminol found no blood ANYWHERE but the garage?? (I cant relocate this info on the pc)
-Crushed finger but also lacerated with separation of joint (this same finger was said to have been an old war wound, per the daughter IIRC)
-Empty stomachs ( I think we've all wondered)
-Food takes 6-8 hours to digest
-She was fully clothed and he was in robe and slippers and boxers, probably heard something and went to see
-Kauffman said even though their children passed the polygraph tests, it was still a very personal crime committed by someone the Dermonds knew
-No blood in his trachea or lungs so was deceased when decapitated, had he died with a blow to the skull like SD, there would have been or would have likely been blood in the trachea or lungs
(My question is ..but not if he was shot?)
(also did SD have blood in her trachea? she suffered 3 blows to the skull)
-Would a bullet lodge in skull at point blank range though? if it did there would be not blood splatter if it didnt exit, or not as much?
Random crimes mostly have no motive

This was personal and NOT Random, yet has no KNOWN motive

No forced entry seems to indicate that the D's knew there killer(s)...........UNLESS someone had the garage code and opened the garage very early in the morning (and also implies very personal connections to the D's) and the D's heard it and went into the garage, then garage was shut by perps and the skirmish began....I've said this before and totally forgot about it until now.

The fact that her hair was in his hand means there was a confrontation and skirmish amongst the D's and their killer(s) and they were not suddenly caught off guard and bludgeoned or shot.......what was the skirmish? Why were they both alive and being held hostage? This makes it appear to be some kind of robbery or extortion attempt still and the perps were seeking cooperation

I would like to know what a gunshot would do in regards to blood in the trachea as was mentioned if they were bludgeoned, there would be blood in trachea since they were alive and I would like to know if Mrs D had any in her trachea. THis might explain if Mr D was bludgeoned like SD or not. I feel like a gunshot at close range would have left blood spatter everywhere and I have a hard time believing they took him out around town or in the yard to kill him while in his PJ's OR bringing him back seems risky and if they did all that, they left valuables behind!

My mind goes to the fact that what is NOT being discussed, is the likely scenario

WHat did SS say? What was not seen is what we is important. Something of that nature LOL

Going to finish listening to podcast now

If RD was holding SD's head after or during time she was struck then it seems likely her blood and tissue would also be found within the hair in his hands. But, it seems some question whether it was SD's hair entangled in his fingers. Autopsy reports it was hers... Right? Should we question that report?

IMO I'm doubtful the medical examiner would simply "guess". Right??
