That thing about the head being cut off because the killer/gun could potentially be identified if he had been shot in the head.. it totally doesn't make sense UNLESS it was the same gun that had *already* been implicated in a crime. ie they would have a bullet out of RD's head, which could then be compared with another bullet which had been used to kill someone previously. They would then be able to tell, same gun killed *this* person, so maybe same killer. Then after killing RD, presumably the killer would destroy or re-tool the gun so it could never be connected when used the next time.

So based on that theory, then can we potentially connect any possibilities? What about the gun that killed Mark? Was it ever retrieved by police? What about McIver (sp?) and the gun he used to kill his wife, were police able to retrieve that one? I suppose there could be many GA cases in which the gun was never confiscated by LE?? And I suppose it wouldn't necessarily have had to have been a GA case either.

I don't think we have ever been told exactly when he stopped.. but even so, if it was around the time of his neighbor's death, why would he have stopped playing if he was an avid golfer, and he also golfed with his son?
he's old? IDK............I just saw another article that said he stopped just a few years ago, before the murders

Any bullet but I read also GSR can be traced to gun type, you can verify that if you want

If bullet was retrieved, it would show what kind of gun uses those bullets

IF KD or BD or AD or TD or LDPK had a gun that was the kind that bullet fits, it could be incriminating, YES

Read up on GSR

Diane McIver's bullet was never found tho it exited the body

SS personally removed all of McIver's guns from his home in Eatonton GA ranch I think it was because McIver was found with a gun while on bond in his atlanta home, no weapons allowed when on bond especially that gun loving guy

Maybe SS is protecting someone....who knows

FBI profile page says that the time spent at the crime scene is an indication of how familiar the perps are with the home or area

Do they know how much time they spent in the garage? could have been quick especially if as SS says that it might not be where the murders happened

Something recently came up about the time spent in the garage, I thought it was SS, will have to verify, saying they spent a good amount of time there...….just for the beheading and cleanup, not necessarily the murder

Like it's been said, a pro will come in and shoot you and leave...…...not their territory I guess, so in and out quick

but to hang around and behead someone, go into the house for towels, try to clean up the blood, their tracks or evidence, bag the head, tuck towels under his torso, drag Shirley off or lure her off in a boat, drive 5 miles down river, probalby at night, so maybe have already been there a few hours or more, beat her in the head, tie her legs with cording attached to blocks in a large mesh bag...…., that's not gonna be quite as quick as a drive by shooting basically, would you think?

This was definitely not a drive by, IMO. Is the general consensus still the killer(s) had to arrive by boat given that Shirley’s body was weighted down in the lake? In other words, the vehicle to arrive at the scene was a boat and the killers left by boat?

I dont think it's 100% determined about arrival, pretty set they left by boat due to dumping of SD in the lake 5 miles away
Personally I don't think theyd want a car seen the D's driveway so I'd say boat, they could park it at night anywhere and walk up the shore to the D's undetected at night

The man on the lawn, if he really exists and it's not a decoy of SS to scare someone out of the woods, then they could have been walking up the shoreline from anywhere in that cove or leaving

Just the angle of the killers having a boat intrigues me... there has to be a certain amount of finances. Maybe they were hired contact killers, who were asked to bring back proof, but it doesn’t look like the Dermonds had any enemies and they were so elderly. Thanks for hanging in on this case, Dancing.

that was in Aug 2009,I think SD was the one who had knee surgery
Didnt RD have some kind of surgery? Eye issues? I cant recall at the moment, seems like he had some kind of issue

This post has a link to a newspaper report about a friend/neighbor commenting about RD having had knee replacement surgery. There's further comment in the thread.

Maybe it's just "gossip" (lol... Who gossips about knee surgery??) I don't know if it's true but... I found the info and thought I'd share.

SD had surgery for breast cancer, as I recall. From seeing RD walking in the grocery store, I have no clue why he quit playing golf. My hubby would only quit if he had SERIOUS health issues. It is, of course, quite expensive.

Thanks, I couldn't remember, well, maybe age does something to people, maybe he just got out of it and never went back after SD knee and breast surgeries, not sure what year those were but in an article SS stated that he'd just stopped playing a few years before the murders, few 2 or few 5? IDK

Gossip is when a story gets passed down from one to another and when it seems to have holes in the story leaving it questionable

SD had scars on her knees and SS said at one time she was limited in walking up the walkway to the lake at their home since surgery or has bad knees, that was in a later article and I don't have the link, a "FRIEND may actually KNOW if she did or not

I guess you can decide what you want to believe

Thanks for sharing

Thanks for that Jabarn……..YW, want to see it solved, I tink about it all the time, I was on Lake nearby when it happened, I never saw the lake the same after that

I just think sometimes that whoever did this already HAD a boat, otherwise maybe they would have just hauled one off to some woods somewhere or something...….

That's certainly come up, I know long ago that used to be the case with mafia, or so the old timers I know have said about beheadings, it was the first thing my 88 yr old Aunt told me LOL, she grew up in a small IL Town where the mafia had a base, her brother in law got mixed up with them, wasn't a killer though! ha

I do believe the killers were well acquainted with the D's though

I’m guessing the reason RD stopped playing golf was because it hurt too much (arthritis ), nothing more, nothing less.

IMHO

As others have stated this is my personal theory including the first person on the podcast interviewed before me.

He is very respected in true crime circles and I’m his sons tennis coach. Things generally get fairly quiet before a storm.

I thought the abrupt ending of the podcast was telling. Has anyone heard from Levi or Tricia? Did they get too close to someone or something? Did SS tell them to stop?

Good one, tennis!

Levi is posting often about other cases as well

Said they would possibly continue podcast

They tried to
reach out to family, but got no response. Would be nice to hear from them he said

I saw somewhere Tricia had another more pressing and recent podcast???
Did not anyone else hear or see that posted somewhere?

I’ve been in contact with Levi via pm. No podcast on the horizon currently.

She now hosts Sword and Scale because of an issue with the old host.
