If "no obvious trauma" to Mrs. D's body is true, I think we have to consider that perp may have thrown her overboard alive (oh, I hope not), that she may have had a heart attack or similar and died and thus became"useless" to the perp for any extortion/theft plan, or maybe perp/s had chloroformed her (or something similar) and they overdid it.

I was thinking "no obvious trauma" might mean that she was not decapitated.

I am so saddened by the news, but relieved that she has been found at the same time. I hope they find who did this soon!

  • #663
Do you think LE is looking at neighbors in Great Waters and on the lake? Checking boats, schedules and occupations? It still seems to me that the perp would have carried SD in their boat at night so they would have to be super-familiar with the lake. IMO

  • #664
How far is it from where VS the realtor who died in Lake Sinclair to where SD was found?

  • #665
FWIW:
It was determined earlier that there are no gators in this lake.

By what authority? The DNR? If so please show me where DNR has made such an assessment.

And to the best of my memory, the gator wasn't mentioned as a suspect in MSM. So, therefore we can't sleuth him.

By that logic a two legged "drifter" cannot be mentioned either.

"He says the body of an elderly woman was "hung up" at the tree line."

Maybe not gators.
Tree gators. Cunning old things.

There has been over 100,000 views on the 2 websleuths SD threads in the past 8 days(14,000+ today alone), and some very good comments and theories, imo..

Imo, internet crime forums and social media drives the ms media to respond to the questions and concerns expressed on these sites. Awareness is the key in missing/murdered person's investigations, imo..
The recovery of SD's body was not the outcome that we were all hoping and praying for, but it is the not knowing that is the worst on the family.
Todays' events are a positive step in the investigation, imo and may provide the necessary evidence to insure Justice for the Dermond's and their family..

Sills: Body in water found near Greene County side of Lake Oconee, but Putnam County will in all likelihood maintain case jurisdiction.

Does anyone know where the county line is at? Is the dam in Greene County? Are they saying that the body was found on the same side of the dam that the Dermond's home is on? Didn't the real estate lady who was found off her dock reside on the other side of the dam from the Dermonds? I am pretty sure that was stated here earlier. I remember reading it and thinking that her being on the other side of the dam would not rule out foul play by a common perp. I know her death is considered accidental.

EDIT: Now I see... Greene County is the other side of the river, not down the river. And it ends very near the dam but on the same side as the Dermond's home.

We were posting at the same time! I didn't bother before to look at Lake Sinclair on a map. But, now I am wondering... hmmm...

I took a look and was surprised to see just how far south Greene County extends. (almost to the dam)

However, it is all on the east side of the lake. Putnam Co. encompasses the southern west side.

Google Map showing Greene Co.

Things have been moving so rapidly, I had forgotten about VS's accidental drowning COD. If my memory is correct it was 15 miles by road between the D's residence and VS's. This does raise a red flag, imo. It will be interesting if SD's COD is drowning too.. Guess, time will tell..

I was thinking "no obvious trauma" might mean that she was not decapitated.

"No obvious trauma" means that there are no bruises noted, punctures, lacerations, bullet wounds etc on the body to indicate cause of death.
I still think that RD's body being moved to the garage was to let LE know that the Dermond's met with foul play so that they would be declared dead/endangered. Autopsies can confirm whether both had drowned. Killing on or at the lake would also minimize DNA evidence. LE remarked on how immaculate the house was and that they felt that RD had been decapitated postmortem due to blood loss assessment. SD was not taken far away. Whoever did this expected or had to expect that her body would be found also. I'll be interested in knowing how they were dressed and whether anyone owed them money...

I'm also hoping that there are cameras at any local boat ramps or neighbors homes that are on the lake, and that all service station/convenience store and toll booth videos are being examined.

“Do I know for certain that this is the body of Shirley Dermond? I do not. ... But it does fit the physical description of her, the hair color, as well as some surgical scars that I am aware of,” Sills said. “So I am fairly confident that this is the body of Shirley Dermond.”

There was no “glaring sign of trauma” to the body, which Sills said may have been in the water since at least around the time Russell Dermond was killed earlier this month.

Sills said the woman’s body will be taken to the state crime lab in Atlanta, where a cause of death will be determined. Dental records will be used to identify her conclusively.

“It most definitely is a homicide,” he said.

Sills said he spoke to the Dermonds’ daughter and asked her to inform her two brothers of Friday’s discovery.

The that found her is just a good old redneck. I watched an interview. He just wants his money. My bet is he had absolutely nothing to do with this. Just a good boy that got put in a bad spot due to timing.

"Most definitely" a homicide but no signs of trauma. How does he know? Could the victim have been bond? Would that not be categorized as trauma? I was thinking maybe she was in pajamas or other sleeping attire and that caused him to think it wasn't a drowning.
