WOW! Not sure what to say or think. . .

Its simply nuts to me to think about a single officer coming out to the report of a dead body found in water....five miles from where Mrs. D went missing!

Okay, WHAT?

Higgs, who said he had gallbladder surgery about four weeks ago, was "doing some work around the house" earlier in the afternoon, saw his neighbor cutting grass, and suggested they go fishing for crappie.

"As we rode down the water, I noticed something just didn't look right," Higgs said. "Something was out of order. I saw (something) hung up on a tree – and I was 99 percent sure it was a body.

"I thought, 'Holy crap. That doesn't look right.'

Weren't we given the impression the body of Mrs. Dermond was recovered form the middle of the lake?

How exacly is there brush at the middle of this lake?

Well people do dump their Christmas trees in the lake for fish cover, but I'm not sure if this is what this means...

:notgood: :sheesh: :thud:

What is DNR as mentioned in the above article? ty
Department of Natural Resources. They have rangers in boats who patrol the water. DNR - law enforcement division.

The only weapons I can think of that would make a clean one stroke slice and be done quickly would be either a sharp machete or a sword.

IMO

Yes, sharp machete, axe or a ninja sword? :dunno: :sigh:

Good question. Sheriff said it was in the middle of the lake, like you said, and water was 50 ft. deep.

Well at least the security system can tell them when it was armed and disarmed...
The thought of someone doing that in broad daylight is something else!
What does that mean?
Sure sounds like someone who's got nothing to lose.

I am thinking more and more an inside job.
How many times have security cameras nailed someone by footage of their car where it should not have been?

Ernie Scherer comes to mind.
http://pokerati.com/2009/03/details-emerge-about-ernie-scherer-iii-accused-double-murderer/
The poker player that killed his parents almost beheading one of them.
Well actually it was a Nike receipt that got him, but he was goaded with security footage of his red corvette.
I might have those details off a little.
I also remember a son with a yellow jeep that drove from college to kill his parents.

I lived in the same building on campus that Christopher Porco did, though it was after he had gone to prison. So, so creepy.

If she was found "hung up in a tree" above the water, (and I am not sure she was)...
Well, that is unexpected. Could have been meant to shock and horrify the person who found her.

XXXXXX XXXXX, a 49-year-old Putnam County resident, says he is the fisherman who discovered Shirley Dermond's body in the waters of the Oconee River.

XXXXX called The Messenger office shortly after 6:30 p.m. to say he had been fishing with a neighbor when he saw something that "just didn't look right."

That seems quite odd to announce you're the person who found the body. In another case I followed it was never released who found the girls' remains - only that it was hunters. The names were never leaked to the press. I think I'd want to remain anonymous in case the killer was still right there.

Big difference in hung up at the tree line & in the middle in 50 ft. water, imo. Tree line is where the trees meet the water.

Maybe he wanted to make sure there was no mistake about who found Shirley, as there is a reward.
IMOO.

Wonder how clear the lake is? Clear enough that you can see trees under the water(sunken Christmas trees or other plant life).
I have never seen a lake that clear.

Yes, I suppose. I'm sure Sheriff Sills will make sure he gets his just reward. Glad that Mrs. Dermond was found. Now to find the killer.

Though this is a shocking crime; I am not convinced that was the intent of the killer(S). This was a rage crime, I THINK, whether it was premeditated or a spur of the moment reaction. We don't know *yet* where the actual murder of Mr. D took place or why he wound up in the garage. In whatever the scenario, the security system was not active, and according to his family, that would be out of character during the night, but maybe not so much during the day. So either this crime happened during the day, or something happened to cause the security system to be turned off at night- either from an outside source, or one of the Dermonds turned it off because he/she went outside.

I don't see it as a rage crime. I think this crime was done methodically, devoid of any emotion, and carefully planned out... designed by a depraved killer in order to make a point. He has left us all a mystery that he thinks no one can solve.

I did read one of their son's said they thought this happened during the day. The security system I has collects data. A log can be obtained showing each and every time the alarm was activated or disarmed. So if they have one similar then it may show it being disarmed at a certain time. Although LE may not have that log information back from the alarm company yet. I bet they do ask for it though.

However; the elderly can be too trusting sometimes and even if someone rang their doorbell at night Russ would have probably opened the door. Especially if the perp pretended to need his urgent help with something.

IMO
