Are we still waiting on the toxicology reports on both?

I still don't understand why the coroner assigned cause of death to Mr. Dermond as head trauma when it should have been "unknown". Could the coroner have missed something while examining either or both corpses?

Should the sheriff be pressed on more information considering the lunatic is still on the loose and may strike again?

A major question, I think, would be how the sheriff knows specifically Mrs. Dermond's corpse was "placed" at Riley Shoals. Another would be how the sheriff knows the Dermonds "opened" their door to the killer. And was the killer "surgical" or really inept? And etc.

We all surely are aware that conclusions based on "intuition" can lead to an endless string of more and more and more false conclusions, getting us nowhere.

As the professor said, "When confusion reigns, go back to the fundamentals".

Good Morning Everyone!:seeya:

I believe the ME went over every square inch of Russ's torso and found no bruising or any other injuries anywhere on it. Therefore it was a process of elimination. The traumatic injuries that caused his death had to be done to his head. Plus the ME also knew the head had been removed after he was murdered. The head held the evidence so it is only logical to me that Russ was murdered and died from some type of head/brain trauma.

It usually takes about 8 weeks to get toxicology results back but I don't think anything will be learned by the results other than showing they both were on some type of prescription medications for various things.

I also think Sills saying he feels the perp or perps were known to them someway was because they found no forced entry.

I don't think Sills is going to reveal anything they may have learned in their course of the investigation. Whether they believe he was inept or seemed to know how to decapitate a head will remain unknown to the public.

I sure don't want to be a Debbie Downer but I have had this nagging feeling for about two days now that these murders may never be solved. I sure hope I am very wrong though. Shirley and Russ deserve justice. They didn't deserve this.

Well, prolly not a good idea, Suthrnqt.. GA is the birthplace of the Good Ole Boy' network...nepotism is flourishing..and there is an active burn ban in place. :giggle:

Ironically, Sparta, Hancock County, GA which borders Putnam County is the town where the TV show; 'In the Heat of the Night', was based on; http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0110128/ 'quinky dink'?

A local retired judge's depraved grandson goes on a serial killing spree in Sparta. ... In the Heat of the Night: Season 8, Episode 1

I believe it will be solved. May take a while. Like in the Julie Love case, a case that changed me and many other women in Atlanta back in the day. We got our first cell phones for " emergency use only".

My opinion is that the reward hasn't been upped and the D children haven't talked much to the media for reasons unknown to all of US, but known to someone, like LE.

And I believe the security camera footage and the cell tower dump/ phone records and tox screen will weave the timeline tale. Just my opinion.

Good morning, Websleuths! Like most of you, again woke up hopeful there would be some news. I was pretty sure this seemed like it could be solved; know they will have their ducks in a row, though. I feel bad for LE, you know they are touched by this couple who had been together so long. I would imagine it hits you really hard; it has me.

Checking in to see if any new details have been released. Guess not, huh? I was so hoping that after the Memorial Day weekend break, that MSM would be bombarded with new leads, additional info or even an arrest or two.
Some of you GA peeps need to go light a fire under 'T Rex' Sills a$$.
:giggle:

Good morning all.
I am in front of the TV with HLN on. It is pouring rain here, so I will be inside today. Hopefully Vinny will cover this case later.I will give you all a heads up if I hear anything.

yep, lakeoconee, movies filmed in GA, 2nd units film in multiple locations other than the primary filming site. My post was meant only in jest..Sorry if it offended you...

Locations; 'In The Heat Of The Night'
The television series also took place in a fictionalized version of Sparta, Mississippi. While there is a real Sparta, the version of Sparta shown on television is very different from the real town.

For example, the TV Sparta is situated along Interstate 20, while the real town is nowhere near any interstate. During the first season, Hammond, Louisiana was the site of the show's production. In the second season, the show was moved to Georgia, to an area east of Atlanta and it remained there for the rest of its run. The principal area of Sparta was in fact downtown Covington, Georgia.

Rural scenes were filmed in a wide surrounding area, in the Georgia counties of Newton (where Covington is located), Rockdale, Walton, Morgan, and Jasper. Decatur in Dekalb County was used as a stand-in for an episode as the Mississippi Capital city of Jackson, and Atlanta itself was used in two episodes, one as a stand-in for Philadelphia, as well as an episode in which Bubba worked on a case there..

So far I have only enjoyed being a reader of your site. I was finally brought to posting by seeing no discussion of the article in Friday's Eatonton Messenger, ‘Progress’ in case, but officers still pursuing multiple avenues. I am anxious to find out exactly who was trying to get the surveillance tapes from the Huddle House. I wonder if the HH is close to the lake or GW.

.....He emphasized the investigation continues to follow established patterns – interviewing property owners, service workers, checking surveillance tapes, chasing down phone or email messages about the case.

One tip being pursued Friday morning involved a man who reportedly went to the Huddle House in Greene County and said he needed to see surveillance tapes from the business.

Sills instructed detectives to check that, and if it were someone not an officer, to turn it over to Greene County Sheriff’s Office for an arrest....

Thank you and welcome to Websleuths :)

Looks like the Huddle House is over near Publix on the Greene County side of the lake. I wish Sheriff Sills would address this issue with the media.

I vacillate on motives/theories but right now I am thinking Mr. or Mrs. D knew too much information about someone and that was why they were murdered. If this is why they were killed, then I think the knowledge they came upon is criminal in nature.

I defer here to my colleague OceanBlueEyes, and I should have made myself a bit more clear on my question about the coroner's report and assignment of cause of death of Mr. Dermond.

Reference: ww.13wmaz.com/video/3551168348001/1/Putnam-coroner-gives-cause-of-death-for-Russell-Dermond

The conclusion is Mr. Dermond almost certainly died as a result of head trauma, which could have been anything, but the anything is unknown.

By the way Ocean, as we say, Semper Fi.

And, please do tell me, why all tapes were not pulled immediately from business's in that location, Sheriff Sills? It would seem standard operating procedure to pull all business tapes just in case the perp had taken Mrs. D. into one, or once his identity became known, LE could go back to review the tapes for a timeline. We knew Mr. D. went to Publix on Thurs or Fri. so that tape has been pulled.

I hope with the FBI on the case the tapes are already in their hands. But why didn't HH call the sheriff's office immediately to report this. Hopefully it is a reporter just giving the high points of a story. One thing to remember is the quality of help in many retail or fast food places are not thinking like you or I. This person requesting to view the tape SHOULD be on the tape himself. . . .

Afternoon All, I'm trying to catch up on everything by reading your great posts.

My Opinion only on the HH talker is it might be a fellow sleuth. He/she may just have stated that the tapes need to be reviewed. Just thinking out loud. :seeya:

'On the lighter side' -

Due to the closure of the State mental hospitals, many private psychiatric inpatient centers are cropping up in residential areas of GA. There was one of these facilities in my neighborhood which had an 8' privacy fence around the yard area for security.

While walking my dogs one beautiful spring day, I could hear the mental patients in the yard chanting 13, 13, 13, 13... My curiosity got the best of me, so I decided to peek in one the knotholes of the fence. When I did one of the patients poked his finger in my eye.

Then they began chanting 14, 14, 14, 14...

Stills stating that the murders might have not occurred there doesn't mean that they didn't.
Many have been thinking that there were body's being carried back and forth it has to be more than one person.
IMO the killer came there for a purpose, to kill Mr. D. If Mr D was in the garage the killer could have struck him on the head killing him, his skull could have been crushed without causing the skin to break or cause a lot of bleeding.
Mrs D could have been walked down to the boat and hit on the head while there, no carrying or dragging needed.
Killer could have walked back to the garage put a bag over Mr. D's head and cut it off while in the bag, hence not that much blood, there was some blood, Stills told us that.

IMO the family is not involved, no financial gain to anyone for the motive. The motive IMO is this killer was just a pizzed off individual.

Here is something that I found showing where blunt force trauma can be the cause of death and not be known until the autopsy. I know his head was not there but this could explain why there was not blood splatter if killed by hitting him with one hard blow.

PROBABLY not related at all, but... was just wondering if any of the rest of you ran across this today:

Man's body found in lake near Georgia-Alabama line

...Muscogee County Coroner Buddy Bryan said a young couple...noticed the man's head, and his body was then recovered near the Lake Oliver Marina on River Road....

more at: http://www.macon.com/2014/05/28/3119480/mans-body-found-in-lake-near-georgia.html#wgt=rcntnews

The wording in the article about the head and body is what caught my eye particularly -- exactly what is it meaning?

  • #1,338
I agree, death by BFT does not HAVE to involve a bloody scene. Many times the bleeding is going on inside the skull and its not necessarily true that a killing blow to the head causes gushing of blood outside of the skull to the degree where it would create a messy difficult to manage or clean up scene.

Your post really got me to thinking about the elevator. If they did have an elevator installed it would mean the Dermonds had given some forethought in building their house with the thought of them getting older and not being able to climb stairs perhaps at some point.

It also reminded me of a horrible accident a few years ago in which a man was trying to get on an elevator and fell and it shut on his neck and decapitated him. Scary elevator.

Which brings another wild theory, supposing some decapitation accident (never mind the missing head), SD, distraught, weak heart and mind, throws herself into lake, dies of exposure (not drowning). Now I understand the reason for OP question about elevator.

I am leaning to theories that lack a "boogey man", we have no evidence of them. Think "inside the box" using the evidence at hand.
