I would take that to mean that no one locally has heard anybody talking about being involved. I don't think he is saying that the killer is not local, and if he is local, Sills is saying he's not talking about it. Which is consistent with the idea the killer is intelligent, cunning and planned this for some time. Petty robbers talk (brag) to peers; intelligent, cunning planners keep it to themselves and probably get more satisfaction gloating over how they have everyone stumped. Loose lips sink ships, and this guy has his buttoned tightly.

I agree. So if this guy targeted the Dermonds for an unknown reason is everybody else safe? Was this just a one time event and the perp is satisfied with the results? I get the feeling in the pit of my stomach that he is enjoying seeing the fear in the locals if indeed their fears have not faded. I'm not local, but I am still holding my breath that no one else is targeted for an unknown reason and lose their heads.

I am ranking this cult idea at #3 on my own list of theories, so all I say is a big IF ---> I think, "No way, no way...". Then I read a little more and see a little more and as I have said a number of times.... they sure do love their swords. Big, huge, long, shining, razor blade thin swords. Another thing I will say again... if "they" did this (it only takes ONE, not the whole posse) then I don't think they would have left a "calling card" as some have said they would because they wouldn't have killed to "give a sign", they would have done so as an act of "justice". So, the argument that nothing was left so it couldn't have been a cult (this has been posted several times) doesn't apply here. They would not have come to leave a message. The "justice" applied by the sword would have been the message. They claim to be sovereign and only held to their own laws. So, in their minds, they wouldn't have been breaking any law. They would have been practicing retribution - a just act.

:goodpost: You said that very well. They would feel no need to send out a video claiming responsibility for the killing. Justice was served in their minds and no need to shout it from the mountain tops. Silence is golden.

So, would you be willing to share your #1 and #2 theories? :seeya:

If anyone is still wondering of the fisherman received the reward for finding Mrs. D's body, the answer is no:

I'm so obsessed with this case that I subscribed to the Eatonton Messenger online for a year. . . I hope the case is solved before next year. About drove my husband batty. Didn't have anyone else to talk to the case about. He wasn't too enthused about discussing the details, but thought the head was taken to prove Mr. D was dead. That's about all I could get out of him.

We need to form support groups for WS members in each of our areas! Sounds like you and I are in the same boat... I drive my husband crazy because I don't have anyone else to discuss the case with either!

Yes to both. No one else is in danger. It was personal. IMO

:seeya: I agree! He thinks I watch too much ID. Murder, murder, murder and :notgood: :therethere: We have each other here!! I love you guys :loveyou: and love reading every single post! Back-up plan is needed!

I had to search out Foxfire on an old article. He probably thinks I'm stalking him now! Not really Foxfire! I was so happy to find you! :seeya:

Okay, that makes me feel a little better. So maybe it was something that happened in the Dermonds' past that was the motive? It just amazes me at what sets some people off sometimes . . . I can hardly watch "Fear thy Neighbor" because some of those folks fly off the handle for little of nothing and develop into these horrendous disputes - think Hatfields and McCoys.

MOO, not for a long time if ever because LE just doesnt have what it needs.
It's such a horrible crime...............

I don't think anyone else is in danger, but I also do not think it was personal. jmo

It would be nice if we knew what they needed.... we might could help them out. . . especially locals and friends of the Dermonds. I hate, hate, hate for this case to go cold.

You think they're from another state perhaps?

No, not necessarily. I think they were just on the lake maybe for the weekend. I just don't think this was organized crime of any type. I am pretty sure whoever did this is scared to death and hopefully they will/or did screw up somewhere along the line. I really think it was drug driven. jmo

So do I. I hope this case doesn't go cold. That possibility really bothers me. What is it going to take to solve this case?? I trust that Sheriff Sills is doing everything he can to solve it, and hopefully he will. There has to be something linking the killer(s) to the Dermond's! I keep saying someone close to the killer(s) has their own suspicions, but may be afraid to come forward. I think it's going to take someone close to the killer(s) coming forward to break this case. Who knows how long that will be. :(

I keep going back and forth whether there was one killer or two. When I'm thinking about this case, I think of one killer, though the facts that have been made public could point to two killers. What do you think, one or two killers?

I can't imagine the pain their children feel.

I agree with this. I just hope they have a conscience and do the right thing. jmo

ETA: I keep saying they, but I really have no idea. I think maybe one, but not sure why I think that.

I would think that those close to the killer(s) who have suspicions, would be afraid to close their eyes at night. It takes a certain kind of killer to decapitate someone. Most murderers do not decapitate their victims. Who could the killer be? Someone who knows the LO/GW community very well, an experienced hunter, physically fit enough to have carried out the murders and decapitation of Mr. Dermond/disposal of Mrs. Dermond, and who knows the Dermond's. Who fits this description? :banghead:

And I'll volunteer my services to track/trace/ weave the web of phone calls. I got very good at it after those policeman knocked on our door and said "dead family member."

IMO the person(s) who committed this crime continue to pose a danger. Someone capable of doing this, for whatever their reason, is dangerous.
If this crime was committed to cover something up and someone gets close to uncovering the truth or suspicious of the perpetrator they are in danger.
If it was a thrill kill...danger.
Investigators must believe that the residents of Putnam county are not in danger of this preson(s) randomly targeting them. However, if this person lives there or visits there...someone might be in danger if they manage to cross paths in the same way the Dermonds did.

Are we to think that the Dermonds were the only ones to know the "secret" that resulted in this mystery person killing them? Pretty powerful!
