A tragic six month backwards walk in time to May 14, 2014...

Despairing son hopes his mother is dead to 'ease her suffering' a week after she vanished and husband's headless body was found at their $1m home in Georgia murder mystery horror
Retired Russell Dermond’s headless torso was found at his exclusive, lake-front home last Tuesday
But his wife of 62 years Shirley has vanished, in a suspected kidnapping
Son Keith told MailOnline the thought of her suffering is just unbearable
Police forced to deny they were taken out in a mob hit and that Mr Dermond was in witness protection
Nothing was taken in the robbery. Car keys and cellphones were left behind
Family believe it was a random attack or even a 'cult' thing

referring to the 2 weeks before the murder and the "tampering with house alarm" commennt............Answer: Easter Sunday falls on April 20, 2014. 2 weeks later is May 4th, did they have any company in town at easter and for how long?

Yes, the article is basically a recap. I'll paraphrase my best. The subpoena compliance division for major phone company is located in India. SS is still filing court orders. One of the court orders from the phone company was requested in July. Bhopal employee is telling SS they can't find that court order.

The community is keeping in closer touch with SS. If something happens, they are making sure he gets a copy of the paperwork. The community is vigilant and SS was even stopped by someone who didn't recognize him at GW/RP. Both new equipment and procedures are in place for RP. I hope by equipment that means working cameras.

Other court orders include expanded time periods for bank records, so that sounds like a LOT OF PAPERWORK to go through. Sheriff Sills has his work cut out for him. I don't envy him. He does read his e-mails and says he gets a lot of those telling him what they think. lol! I'm sure he does. You never though know. The answer to who did it may lie in one of those e-mails! The reward remains at $55,000.

Hoping the murder or murders are brought to justice soon!

Interesting, angry ex employee who left the country? supboena compliance division in India, could be just what is stated, not necessarily connected to ex emplyee, we all know you call for advice or information on some subscription and it leads you to pakistan or india or elsewhere

still curious about the 2 weeks before the murders and that the alarm appeared to be tampered with? Could be there were storms in the area, but how IRONIC if that was during the easter week, and 2 weeks before the murder was easter, sometimes we make looking for the answer more difficult than it is...........such as Wizard of Oz, "happiness is in my own backyard" or some such............I'm sure it's difficult, wouldn't want to be in SS shoes, it's also interesting there was no mess and was a calm scene, wonder who had a key to the house? Didn't SS state he felt it was someone the D's knew or atleast acquainted with? well that's a lot of good information right there, look in the backyard Dorothy!

Just to be clear, Sills *never* said that it had been tampered with, or that it may have been tampered with, or even appeared to have been tampered with. He said that it had been disconnected temporarily 2 weeks before the murders, and gave no theory about why it happened. It could have been the weather, it could have been faulty, or it could have been the Dermonds disconnecting and reconnecting it. We don't know. It was an assumption on the part of the poster upthread to suggest that it was tampered with, but again, to be clear, Sills never said anything of the sort, so IMO I don't think it's something we should run with at this time.

Well Montjoy, *security alarm systems have backup batteries*..to prevent power outages from weather, etc., from disarming the system and placing the homeowner at risk. If possible tampering with the system had been ruled out. Imo, it is unlikely that Sheriff Sills would have mentioned it on the chat line..

Yes, their daughter and her family visited for Easter. I don't have a link to that info. but it was discussed on earlier threads here at WS.

Edit to add link :

In the video at this link the reporter states that the Dermond's pastor saw them at church on Easter with their daughter and grandchildren.

A Lake without Leads: Putnam Co. murders remain a mystery
http://www.11alive.com/story/news/l...10/lake-oconee-murder-putnam-county/18811169/

EATONTON, Ga. -- Six months after the gruesome murders of an elderly couple living along Lake Oconee, the violent crimes remain unsolved. Confounded, Putnam County Sheriff Howard Sills believes that 'Hope' will heat up this case as it now becomes cold..

"I go to sleep every night thinking about this case…and I wake up every morning thinking about this case,"Sills said. "And I'm not exaggerating at all."
The former lives of the Dermonds have been turned inside out, there's not a single red flag they were living anything but ordinary lives. So why were they murdered?
In a sea of stacked cardboard boxes, Sill's desk serves as his island.

wondering if the beheading was even something to throw off the investigation, it certainly could/has............. the greatest question is why THEY were targeted/he beheaded..........since there are no leads, maybe investigators are discounting something due to the beheading? Just a thought

Yes, dancinunderthemoon. The beheading of Mr D was to misdirect the investigation, while also sending a very poignant message..imo...

Not sure how to ask this but I read all the comments on 11 Alive's facebook page and one person stated that more damage was done to the bodies than we have been told; is there any truth to this or do we know? Someone else referred to the motive being something that Mr. D did to someone who is now grown up?? Did I miss something on any of the other comments? Does it look like there has been any info to move this case forward? I feel like I'm missing something. I don't want to go by something anybody with a computer said, so am coming on here to the experts. I SO want someone to be held responsible for this.

I read that, too, Happy.
Mr. D. Was also missing his hands.

"Authorities were all but certain the corpse was Russell Dermond’s after they spoke with a family member who told them about an abnormality to one of his fingers and a surgical scar on his knee.

But it wasn’t until Thursday, though, that Sills confirmed the dead man’s identification after matching fingerprints with records from Russell Dermond’s Navy enlistment in the early 1940s."

Leave the FB rumors on FB, please.

Thanks.

Sorry, Bessie. I don't do FB.
Must have read it elsewhere.

I think it was on the news station's FB -- I couldn't read the comments (I don't "do" FB either) at first and then later I could ... weird ... so maybe you saw it there.

I was hoping the station would go to the sheriff and get a confirmation or denial...but no go so far, so, as bessie says, those comment things must remain rumor and we can't talk about them.

Did anybody ever scare up a link to a transcript of the chat that followed that recent 11Alive coverage?

<BBM & Respectfully sniped for focus>

Backwoods, I sent a request to WXIA TV11 Investigative Reporter Catie Beck for a link to a copy of the chat discussion. I'm beginning to wonder if the chat discussion was a mining expedition by Sheriff Sills in the investigation.. Although I suspected that the chat was being monitored by investigators. I was very surprised to see PC Sheriff Sills join in the chat discussion..

WXIA TV11 Facebook <scroll down to 10 hours ago for the Investigative article/there is one very interesting comment>

No, Backwoods... I sent a request to WXIA TV11 Investigative Reporter Catie Beck for a link to a transcript of the chat discussion, but never received a reply..

What is it going to take for Putnam County Sheriff Howard Sills, to request the resources and assistance of the GBI <Georgia Bureau of Investigation - Investigators/Special Agents> in the Dermond murder investigation?

"There is no such thing as a perfect crime, only imperfect investigations, imo"...
