Investigators with the Putnam County Sheriff's Office and the Georgia Bureau of Investigation (GBI), based upon the blood spatter pattern in the garage, were working on the theory that Mr. Dermond's head had been cut off after his death. Moreover, he had not been stabbed or shot. Detectives believe he was murdered sometime between Friday, May 2 and Sunday, May 5, 2014. There were no signs of forced entry into the house, and there has been no activity on the couple's bank accounts. If the couple had been kidnapped for ransom, there has been no demand for money from their abductors.

I just happened to come across a blog online written by a guy named Jim Fisher - no idea who he is or how he got this information but I don't remember any words being spoken about blood spatter patterns, and according to him, the GBI was involved at first....??
It seems like most people on facebook think it was a for hired hit for $, and unfortunately, think family members (or maybe business associates?) could be involved. That's a workable theory, but why the beheading and lake burial? I just think if it was a hit, just do it and be done, and why wouldn't that be done inside the house?

Foxfire, you may be the only one who is really on to this, although a lot of didn't disagree with you, I just thought that business was too old to be pertinent; maybe not. It's good to go back and read these articles. I see now why taking Mrs. D to the water was important to whoever did this. I couldn't figure that out, but if the FBI is saying it was to continue trauma to the family AND the community, that's saying a lot. So much for my drug scenario (although that's what drives most murders these days, but like my sister said "they all have guns".) So FBI says it was to send a message....then, if not your theory, must be the money. I have got to go do something else for a while! Whew!!

At 2:00 in link, there is an entrance to an underground parking garage or maybe just a delivery area.

On youtube there are some videos taken while traveling through various parts of Atlanta (downtown, midtown, Peachtree, etc.). I'm in the middle of one taken with a helmet cam on a motorcycle. Maybe ya'll can find find the building in one of the videos.

I am waiting to hear from my brother, he worked at the Georgian Terrace before he went to the Four Seasons. I am almost sure that it is the GT, but if it is, they are not showing the main entrance. However, they do have those black poles with lights at the top and there is a historic monument there. I can't recall the signs being out when I've been there. The restaurant is called Livingston's and the bar is Mims. It's known for its terrace and of course, I've always been socializing (read drinking/eating) there before a show at the Fox, so could be wrong. I tried to google investment firms, brokerage firms, financial advisors, etc. and had no luck. I'm not even sure there are businesses in there but it looks like the same parking garage to me and when you go further up Peachtree, it becomes Buckhead and I think Mark Winne would have said Buckhead, not Midtown. Obviously, I've had nothing to do today, stormy here in Savannah!

Surely I can venture a wild guess? I don't know what good finding out what brokerage firm it is will do, but I want to contribute any way I can.

I couldn't get a front view picture but you guys may be right, and if you are, I should be ashamed. That's the building my husband built!! Of course, it was 1988 but I had forgotten the bottom is not red brick like the rest of it. I just don't remember the terrace like that. The Georgian Terrace is at the 8:40-8:46 part of the video (which I enjoyed so much!). But that's where he's showing the building demolition and it's hard to see, although the brick on the GT does look older and darker. I can't imagine what sign would be out front, either. There's no entertainment there..? I think there is a BB&T in there, though. It's been so long. Let us know what you find out, al66pine, if anything.

Just thinking -- I wonder if Mark Winne wanted to video SS emerging from there just for media impact -- I mean, he could have just had a phone interview with Sills, etc., but boring, boring. OR -- could there be some reason that Sills himself wanted this footage out there -- some message to the perp, "I'm HERE, I'm on your trail..."

Of course, since the actual source of the CD is pretty carefully veiled in the footage, it COULD instead be that they chose this location because it is NOT where Sills went -- to foil any attentive perp (and sleuths like us).

I am watching 20/20 right now on ABC. It is about the arrest of Gary Hilton for the murder of a young female hiker in GA. She was decapitated. Anyway, there was speculation about similar crimes in the area, and they showed a photo of the Dermonds! :twocents:

Seems a little odd that they would mention the Dermonds in a show about Hilton (since he has long been in prison) -- but it's a good thing, IMO, maybe get some more focus on this case.

If it's not the Georgian Terrace, and turns out to be The Peachtree, then the address is 1355 Peachtree Street. Good work, guys. And Backwoods, you could have a point; the whole interview seemed scripted, thus why they intentionally didn't show the building or the name of the business on the envelope. They must have come to the conclusion (or are trying to weed this idea out) that these murders were done for profit. At least they are doing something, even if they might be going down the wrong trail. My mother told me to "do something, even if it's wrong at least you can learn from it."
Anxious to hear about the phone analysis, too. Will probably be weeks from now at this rate.
