Also, if it's the pictures I'm thinking off, they are still online. I'd post the link, but I don't remember if the Examiner is one of those publications that's not considered reputable. Anyway, the caption does state that the pictures were taken on a trip overseas.

Yes, I believe they were taken in a museum during a vacation, and are still available online. :twocents:

Not a very good display, but thanks for letting us know where they were taken. Where to go from here? May be a long week waiting on financial/phone "analysis" with only 2 guys working on it. Back to the basics...thanks everyone.

Very likely totally unrelated...but you never know: A county adjacent to Putnam County, Hancock County, lost its courthouse to fire early this morning. Sad, in any case:

[QUOTE Such a sorry thing to do to this nice couple, I want to see a perp walk soon.[/QUOTE]

I have seen a lot of posts talking about what a shame that this sweet, nice couple were killed. It is a shame, but does anyone posting actually know them personally? I don't think SS did. The only person that I remember seeing on a clip who knew them was their minister. Not saying they were, not saying they weren't, just saying that we don't know.
Reminds of something that happened years ago that taught me a lesson. A group had placed a marker commemorating the service of a Confederate soldier marking his grave and we were going to have a dedication ceremony. His granddaughter, a very elderly lady who was having memory problems, was a member of our group. We got her to the cemetery and she asked for the millionth time what we were there to do. I told her that we were marking her grandfather's grave. She said, "That old man was as mean as a snake! He was terrible to his wife and children and grandchildren! He doesn't deserve to have his grave marked!" He was so mean, that the family had intentionally not marked his grave! If the lady could have left then, she would have! Moral of the story, just because someone is dead, doesn't mean that they were good.

Again, I want to reiterate that I am not saying that the Dermonds were not nice, sweet, good people, just saying that we don't know them.

Excellent thought, DAMIFINO! I think there is much that we don't know. I didn't get the idea that any of our posters knew them personally. :twocents:

This is one case that I can't say, DAMNIFINO. All info points to the Dermonds being a very nice, stable, successful, caring, and family oriented grandparents/parents, which had been married for over six decades. As chatty as Sheriff Sills was in the first two months of the investigation, imo, if there had been any skeletons in their closet, they would have been revealed..jmo

http://patch.com/georgia/cartersvil...or-suspect-in-husbands-beheading#.U-o3-vldXKE

Sheriff Sills told the newspaper the biggest challenge has been interviewing nervous friends and neighbors of the Dermonds.

“I’ve never dealt with a case where so many people were reluctant to talk,” he said. “They’re reluctant because they’re afraid they’re going to get their heads cut off. There’s a lot of fear.”

Maybe they were nice...maybe not...to me it doesn't matter. I suspect they were good, stable and loving people, but no one should die the way they did.

http://www.wjbf.com/story/26249716/hancock-county-courthouse-fire-sparks-investigation
The investigation into what caused the fire is ongoing.

Fire chief Keith Webster was the first on the scene. By the time he arrived, he said the entire building was engulfed in flames.

Every fire truck from neighboring counties came to help put out the fire.

The courthouse was about to undergo renovation, said Hancock County Commissioner Teresa Kell. A frame for the scaffolding had just been established so remodeling could begin on the courthouse roof.

The History Behind the Hancock County Courthouse

Hancock County, GA - The Hancock County Courthouse was built in 1881 from borrowed money from a wealthy plantation owner.
"Money was loaned to the county by David Dickson who was a big planter here, a very wealthy planter, and he loaned them $20,000 to build this beautiful building, and the county never paid him back," she said.

It wasn't until Dickson passed away, that his daughter, a child of one of his slaves, got paid back the debt with her inheritance.
"It was tried right up here in the courthouse that she owned the bonds on, and her inheritance was upheld in the superior court here. It was upheld in the state's court of appeals and upheld by the Supreme Court of Georgia, and she was the richest black woman in the United States, at that time, that it was upheld," said Hancock County Development Authority Director Allen Haywood. <sniped - read more>

Welcome Retired1997! I really enjoyed reading your post and hope you will continue to post. Just read this little bit from WSB-TV FB regarding a theft
Police are looking for information in a burglary that netted a thief two championship rings, including one from Georgia Tech's 1998 ACC Championship. http://2wsb.tv/1yrxV33

Anyone with information is asked to contact the Smyrna Police Department or, to remain anonymous, contact Crime Stoppers at 404-577-8477.

Makes one wonder if Mr. Dermond had any sports rings. Of course that surely would have been missed by the children. I was a bit shocked at the value of the rings. I also wonder if Mr. Dermond had any war medals that could be valuable? Again, the family would be aware and you would think they would be hard to sell as they might be easily traceable.

One thing that puzzles me is that it was clearly stated that there was no sign of struggle with Mr. Dermond. Makes me think someone simply snuck up behind him and fired a weapon into the back of his head or he was struck with something hard enough to kill him instantly. Again, I think a gun as death would be almost immediate.

This may be nothing but I want to write what happened 6:00 PM Aug. 1, 2014 at our home this could be another way how the Dermonds were caught off guard, our motion sensor alarm for front porch sounded, I went and looked at monitor and told wife that tall heavy set white man about 40 with goatee was standing up against porch column , than he came on porch rang door bell and hit glass on storm door and backed off porch, to the column, this went on about five minutes he would never stay on porch, my big black lab, was barking loud all the time, first time for her to bark at anyone, she always wants to greet, wagging her tail when doorbell rings, not this time. He turned and went down side of house and got off camera. I went in the bathroom, peeped out window, he was standing by our truck on drivers side. I thought he could be trying to steal our truck. I returned to door and opened just enough for me to shout as loud as I could, we were going to call 911, I have you on camera . He must have heard me, and the 911 got his attention as he came from side of house back in my view, loud voice said he was checking our roof. He was out of yard in a flash. This man did not park his car into our driveway. He had parked his little red car out front on the opposite side of street, and he walked in. I don't know if he was alone or not because of trees in our yard hard to see and I was afraid to go on the porch and look. I wish now we had called 911 but at the time I was afraid we did not have emergency as he did not try to break in our house. This man could have wanted to check our roof, I don't know why and we have good roof, and I was not taking any chances. We do not open door for strangers. We had received a strange phone call, our caller ID showed 000-000-0000 and later this man showed up.

I know my views are different from most, my wife said go post them any way.

Moderator this is my first post please delete my post if I did anything wrong. I was afraid to use word's service and Technicians in my post but I decided they are only generic word's.

Hi retired1997, welcome!
Enjoyed reading your post, I shorten for space, just wanted to say , Please don't ever be afraid you don't have a real emergency to call 911 ! Call, it is better to be safe than sorry. LE may need to out a BOLO out for these people to check and see if they are for real roofers. Sounds to me, they were scoping your house to see if you were home. Just my opinion only (moo) . Seems funny that he parked his car on the other side of the street, not at the end of your drive or front of your house.
You probably did not get a chance to see if his vehicle displayed roofing co. signage.
Not that that's a big reassurance.
A quick stop at a fast sign place or FedEx Kinko's could probably get anyone magnetic signs for the doors for a small price.

And welcome to W/S, esp this thread.

Moral of the story, agreed, not saying that is the case w the D's.

BTW, seems I remember hearing favorable comments from members of MrsD's bridge group.

Right now, I'm stuck on the thought that Mrs. D was taken "to further traumatize the family and community" and it was also to throw LE off into another direction (kidnapping), because I can't help but think that she was taken to be buried because someone cared. And they were furious with Mr. D., may have even beheaded him because Mrs. D had to die, too, and it was his fault that all this happened in the first place. I can't seem to go with military-type trained, well planned, two scenarios of the crime to cause confusion, and I have tried. I do agree with SS that they were targeted because of something they had or something someone thought they had. Can't wait to hear more news about the phone analysis. Or news about anything, really. Still hopeful!

"The cameras were inoperable at the security gatehouse at the Gate Water main entrance. This was no coincidence, imo. The Dermonds kept their doors locked, had a security alarm system, and were very security conscious according to their son; KD.

The FBI agent mentioned in an interview how they could trace a rope back to its origin, or distributors in an interview soon after Mrs D body was located near long shoals boat landing on Lake Oconee. Imo, she was alive, and used as a hostage/shield in case of a routine DNR license/boat safety check while enroute to the boat landing where the perp/s vehicle was located. Mrs D likely met her intended fate at this point, but was inadequately anchored down, and later reemerged.

Imo, the Dermond abduction/murders/decapitation was a well planned and meticulously executed crime carried out by well trained organized offender/s, likely disciplined, slight acquaintance or stranger/s; paramilitary and martial arts trained. Other than an Evil aura, this type of offender/s leave no residue in their wake..They are professionals; soldiers on a perpetual mission; 'The most difficult crime for investigators to solve'. They will fool even the most experienced homicide detectives, as we are witnessing in this case, imo..

Imo, this unspeakable horrific crime was very personal and meant to send a clear message; a message of terrorism and fear. The most obvious motive, imo is retribution/revenge. Imo, the writing is on the wall and the devil is in the details"..

Russell and Shirley Dermond had been married 62 years. Both in their late 80s, they fell prey to unspeakable violence -- savagery as the Putnam County sheriff has called it -- and whoever inflicted it seems to have left nary a trace.

"It just eats at you that somebody could do this and possibly get away with it. ... We don't even know the motive at this point," Keith Dermond said by phone Wednesday. "It's very hard to catch somebody when you don't even know their motive, and you don't know whether they would do it again."

More from KD via FF's link:

"It's a very infamous case at this point so, yeah, I'm sure as far as his own reputation and everything else, they're doing everything they can to get it done."

He added that crime shows on television, the "CSI" types, make the unsolved killing of his mother and father all the more frustrating.

"The techniques they have of uncovering evidence and stuff like that," Keith Dermond said, "it's almost hard to believe that somebody could be that good a criminal that they didn't leave behind anything."

http://members.jacksonville.com/new...da-detectives-help-georgia-case#ixzz3AIUUG4hw

Hmmmmm.... so the Dermonds' murders are infamous now. Interesting Sills hooked up with cold case detectives in Florida. When is a case officially declared a cold case? Could there be a link with a cold case in Florida similar to the Dermonds? Remember us discussing early on that there weren't too many cases out there with a husband and wife murdered and the husband beheaded. Could the killers have come from Florida (not the family)?

Would the guards have let such a person pass through the gate at Reynolds Plantation? There is only one gate into RP, someone correct me if I am wrong. I would think a community such as Reynolds Plantation would want to keep people such as this out of the community, but perhaps they knew someone on the inside.
