Hey guys, I was transcribing the 911 call earlier & need some input—-
What is said at #3, below?
(Start at 00:02:00- I’m not home, or I would find the exact timestamp)
  1. Operator: Are they breathing?
  2. Caller: I have no idea. I'm not inside the house—it's closed, it's locked—I can't go in. But, I see them. She's laying down on the floor from the window.
  3. ➡️➡️Caller "Yep, she's gone" [under breath, or talking to other person at scene]
  4. 00:02:18 | 911 Operator Okay, okay. Do they appear to be ….

A 3rd party could have locked the dog in the crate, so it wouldn't attack them, while they killed the couple. If it was someone they knew, they could have left the door open, to make it look like an intruder. The wife could have yelled to Gene to get out of the house, and get away but he didn't make it.
It would be difficult to murder two individuals without leaving evidence or visible injuries. But JMO

I listened a few times and that's what I heard. He very well could have been talking to himself as you said. JMO

I tuned in late to the Oscars. Does anyone know if I missed Morgan Freeman's honoring Gene?

If you look under the video on YouTube in the greyed area, click on “…more”, there is a “Transcript”. Click where it says “Show Transcript”. I don’t know how accurate it is, but maybe it will help?

I know.. but it’s not 100% accurate, it’s just auto generated.

For an accurate transcript, I always listen! 😉

Thank you. Yeah, I figure that or the security guard guy that was with him. Just wanted to make sure I wasn’t crazy!

Is there any history of the principal significantly younger caregiver's dying precipitating the death of an older spouse like this? There is an indissoluble bond between people living in the same house together for years, people of high iq, people who are tough and survivors and plan ahead for things. The pets are part of their life force, being fed and taken care of every day. Statistically as much as I think of this situation, it just doesn't make sense.

I saw "French Connection" 1 & 2 in the last week, the first one was a huge hit, showcasing Gene's boundless energy.
This is a great question, TomsTrees.

I guess age 63 (some sources say 64, or 65, but I think Betsy had turned 63 in Dec.) is "not that young" and could pass away from a medical emergency. Heck, at any age someone could go!

These two were so isolated from other family members and friends that their death went unnoticed for over a week. some sources say closer to two.

Plus with two German Shepherds on the loose, with their superior instincts no one would get into the house or around it without being detected, probably there's late date security equipment on the grounds as well.

Ben Stiller had some good words to share on Gene.

Also this article in the DM today has some good information: Gene Hackman and his wife's neighbors reminisce on their impact

You haven't missed it yet.

Has there been any discussion about what will happen to the surviving dogs? Assuming there's at least one will in existence hopefully instructions for the future well-being of the dogs were part of the will. JMO - They must be traumatized, they lost their caretakers and one of their pack. I sure hope they end up being adopted together.

It does seem odd that they didn't have any help within two weeks for cleaning and groceries at least. I wonder if they had trouble with someone they hired.

You've articulated something interesting here:

The fact they were reclusive indicates that gene was in relatively good health. IMO. Otherwise why would they not have been discovered sooner?
Surely gene would have fallen on his way either to Betsy, or to the phone?
If he suffered an "event" or a fall, and was conscious, I'm sure he would at the least have crawled towards where a phone was. Or at least tried to. I wonder if LE can tell if he did try to.

I wonder if one of the dogs might have been trying to get help for either Gene or Betsy and accidently knocked one or the other down? Whatever happened, my heart goes out to both of their families.... sad to hear.

They have said both, IMO:

that there are no injuries consistent with a fatal fall, and that they appear both to have fallen.
One or both of them could have been dead before they hit the ground.

I wonder how the two surviving dogs were kept fed, if both Betsy and Gene died relatively close in time?
That might be a question best left unanswered.
