Police who searched murder suspect Dellen Millard’s farm last week have so far found “no significant connection” to a missing Toronto woman, but the head of the city’s homicide squad said objects taken from the property still need to be forensically examined.

“I’m not aware of anything [from the farm] that leads us to Laura Babcock’s disappearance,” Staff Inspector Greg McLane told The Globe and Mail Thursday. “However, there are some things we need to further investigate that were found there to see if there’s a connection.”

....thanks Dizzy 1 for your post#421 above mine.

I am sure I am like most websleuther's very confuse as to what went on at DM farm that LE returned....with so many others OPP...IMO ..there must have been a REASON as POLICE stated." new info " brought them back...

IMO we must be PATIENT to see the forensic reports and all the tests done....PB may stop them from releasing info...

I feel for LB family as I am sure they like to hear some news...a long time has gone by..

.IMO the longer it takes the harder it is ..altho..police made the comment "that evidence does not go away...finding it is another story IMO...almost 2 years now...but it has been done before ...as we all know lost ppl can be found ...not often alive..imo...but anything is possible...especially in this case....again JMHO...robynhood.

Trusting the MSM (or not)

I have not seen this posted elsewhere and found it interesting ..... the rental yacht owner said one thing and the media sensationalized it to say something else (typical)

If any of us did that we would be called liars. If MSM does it they call it news reporting. Go figure.

.

Full article here http://www.manitoulin.ca/2013/06/05...onal-media-police-in-assisting-millard-probe/

Thanks for this article Arnie, I had not seen it before. It may be one of the most truthful articles I've seen on the DM case so far. I agree with you, and I think that we have higher standards for truth and accuracy here than MSM seems to have. Which is a shame, because there used to be a day when reporters were relied on to convey the truth to the public and they would lose all credibility if they were prone to exaggeration and innuendo. Now it seems there is no news without sensationalism, because that is what sells.

Wow-things are slowing down to a snails pace here. It's hard to believe that we haven't heard a single word from TPS since they left the farm a week ago. DM & MS's friends appear to be all working under social media aliases now or have secured their accounts to the max- IMO there's no way that they'd be staying away from FB or twitter and yet, we are running on sleuthing fumes. MOO

Now my question is-who tipped them off to the point where they did an extensive 5 day search on the farm. What kind of evidence did they come out with...if any? And last of all, why did the person who tipped them off actually offer up information, especially if there was a possibility that TPS would come out with nothing? Really playing the devils advocate here, but there is, as always, a possibility that someone from the DM camp did offer up TPS false information in an effort to gain public sympathy for DM? There's just something crazy about an intensive, highly publicized search that lasts 5 days and nothing but 50 or so barrels of various liquids that TPS have said has nothing to do with their investigation.
I'm just having a hard time believing that TPS would be acting on a wild tip and IMO if they did have anything, TPS would be trying to save a little bit of face because of the initial handling of the LB case and would be racing into a presser to let the world know that they were doing their job and had in fact found something? JMHO

IMO, I believe some sort of evidence was located during the search, basing that opinion on the following...
“I’m not aware of anything [from the farm] that leads us to Laura Babcock’s disappearance,” Staff Inspector Greg McLane told The Globe and Mail Thursday. “However, there are some things we need to further investigate that were found there to see if there’s a connection.”

Staff Insp. McLane said items taken last week from the Kitchener-area property must be examined to establish whether there’s a link to Ms. Babcock, but he wouldn’t say what exactly police had retrieved.

“We need to look at some things forensically, and if there’s a connection, then there’s a connection, and if there’s not, there’s not,” he said.

If there is some forensic evidence that was retrieved it would take time for testing etc, which would explain why there has been no new information since the search ended, but then there is this-

Laura Babcock’s mother said Toronto police called her after their search culminated Friday to let her know they hadn’t found anything pertaining to her daughter

so, that leaves me wondering, what kind of evidence did they find, and if forensic testing had not yet been done, why say it was nothing pertaining to Laura?:scared:

As for the idea of some tipster sending LE on a wild goose chase, so to speak, just my opinion but I would think LE would have done some in depth questioning to confirm reliability of the new information before throwing all those resources into the search

Yes, they probably will have a presser to save face but not until the very last bit of forensics are back so that they can be absolutely sure of what they say.

So far as tip,
1. I always suspected this may have been a tip, or rather "information" from HPS or the Court in Hamilton, to make sure there are no skeletons in the closet/barrels/haystack before negotiations are contemplated on the TB case. Time-wise it would make sense because of the impending pre-trial.
2. Second guess is that it is possible someone who just needs some reassurance on the whereabouts of LB and the direction of her case called in an anonymous falsie that just could not be ignored by TPS. If the family demanded the barn be searched that would not be enough to get a warrant but if someone called in a juicy tip....

Yes it is very quiet. Hey, am I wrong or do I see new smilies on the site. I never noticed this before: :slapfight:

Skatergirl, I'm of the same mindset as you are in concern to LE having confirmed the reliability of the info before they sent that massive crew out to Ayr. But that's where I run into a block. My understanding was that TPS had a search warrant pertaining to the disappearance of LB. If TPS did find something implicating DM in something else, would they be able to use it as evidence for anything? Could DP argue that TPS didn't have reasonable grounds to even do a search-therefore DM's rights were violated? MOO

I'm still keeping the faith that TPS didn't come out empty handed. IMO, as it's been said here before, it's a strike against TPS if they actually act on 2 tips (one for the earlier search) and come out of both with nothing. JMHO

LE may have seen it as an opportunity to do some damage control regarding their reputation from the June presser.

If somebody called in a completely anonymous tip that was pretty major, would LE ingnore it because the tipster couldnt be vetted? Isnt the whole idea of Crimestoppers anonimity? I don't know hopefully someone knows for sure. The search may not have been huge until initial LE went in Monday and found mystery barrels.

Maybe the tip was about hidden and unlabelled barrels (I think only some were labelled). Did it seem some hay had to be removed before barrels came out?

Well, if we go by the dating of articles published, it was stated on Sept 17 that the barrels were confirmed unrelated
Toronto Police now say that dozens of barrels recovered on the farm of accused murderer Dellen Millard are not important to their search for a missing Toronto woman.
http://www.thestar.com/news/crime/2...elevant_to_missing_woman_case_police_say.html

and then on Sept 20
objects taken from the property still need to be forensically examined.
http://www.theglobeandmail.com/news/toronto/millard-farm-search-is-inconclusive/article14430330/

So, IMO the evidence is further than the discovery of the mystery barrels

RE: anonimity? I don't know, but call display is certainly the norm now, so how anonymous can a phone call be, even if the caller blocks their number? Anyone ever pocket dialed 911 from a cell phone? It happens, and if it does, they come find you, at your home, to confirm it was just a mistake and that you are actually okay, speaking from experience:floorlaugh:

:floorlaugh: I like first-hand reports!! I know they checked on my niece at my parents place years ago while they were watching her and she crank called 911, when she was 3. She never tried that again after they paid her that visit :nono:

If I were to make an anonymous call, I'd go to a payphone, one of the three left on the planet, to make the call (disguised and wearing gloves of course!).

Anyhoo I agree the potential evidence collected is beyond the barrels but I was wondering whether barrels got them there in the first place and then, while they had the warrant, did full search that produced lots more material for testing.

  • #433
I think we can presume TP removed plenty of "small bagged evidence" from inside the barn .... away from "our prying eyes" .... certainly they removed equipment (looked like an old drill press) and the larger pieces of lumber for further tests .

Because the larger pieces were exposed to media cameras folks tend to focus intently on them .

Same goes for the 54 barrels and 3-4 hazmat trucks too .... which turned out to be irrelevant in the end.

Right now LE will be diligently testing all the small bits and if they have something they will probably announce it all at once and that may take a while yet.

Thanks Arnie-just seeing that full glass cockpit makes me want to trade in my boring fixed wing license for something a bit more thrilling and versatile! I'm sure that if DM can't fly it for a while, it'll definitely end up under the control of loving hands!

Some good reading Arnie, thanks for sharing. So IMO a few of CM's collectibles were used as props. Wonder what CM would think of this. :dunno: JMO

Some of the props included for this event:

* Bell 47 helicopter! (Oh yeah!)
* Navajo airplane!
* Vintage 60's and 70's cadillacs! Yes you can sit IN them!
* Various airplane parts!
* Tools!

much more.

I think he was into paintball or laserquest. Not sure about firearms. Maybe Wayne's? A prop for a costume, photo shoot?

Are the guns they hold from an older variety or are they the types that are popular today with gangs (clearly I know zero about guns)?

Maybe he's a hairdresser. I swear there's a stylist at a nearby salon who looks like Tony Soprano and wears his scissors in a holster. I'm not kidding! :floorlaugh:

The holsters were either meant to hold guns or chocolate bars. I'd say DM needed to conceal a real gun for some reason.

Well it's obvious there was at least two guns in the house on Maplegate which DM and WM shared. The one the reporter talks about at 50 seconds into the video and the one WM committed suicide with. I highly doubt LE would turn the one WM used to supposedly commit suicide back over to DM and I highly doubt DM would want it back knowing what it was used for. Then again DM IMO seems to be quite different, maybe frugal, broke or had other purposes for the gun so who knows, maybe he wanted it back. All :moo:.

Here's a link that includes old hangar pics plus planes etc. EG, (note same initials but NOT the gf of WM), the photographer/model/special event organizer was also Office Manager at MillardAir April 2007 - Sep 2009 which would have been well within WM's tenure.

http://eryngombos.wix.com/eryns-workshops#!__page-3

Besides coming up with money making ideas like photo shoots and camera workshops, her job reportedly included
- Organizing and maintaining the accounting department.
- Preparing company for audits and the Toronto Airport Authority.
- Negotiating contracts with movie executives to gain access to our facilities to produce motion pictures.
- Assisting in the sale of DC4 aircraft.
- Negotiating tenant leases for various workrooms and area within the airport facilities.

I include this information because there seems to be a widely held idea that the photo shoots were set up and organized by DM.
