What is a protocol in a police investigation?
Checking CCTV from a variety of sources. Nowadays inclusive of doorbell and vehicle footage. They don't waste time on that if it is of no value.

Footage of a suspect lurking outside No5A in PdL would not necessarily have been 'damning' if considered in isolation and neither would footage of CB in the corridor outside HB's hotel room.

Evidence comprises of many individual pieces put together to build a picture.
CB didn’t actually live in PDL - I’m surprised we’re still reading that line. He was either in Foral or in his van around the dam.

The eye witnesses accounts of an ‘ugly’ man in the area are all very similar to CB. The man ‘unnerved’ a woman & her young child. Would certainly be one of the bigger coincidences.

i guess all we have left is to see if Braunschweig drop MM indictment next year sometime.

can’t imagine HCWs team will seek publicity after this reverse and judicial dressing down.
A bit perplexing why the prosecutors have become the general whipping boys from start to finish, losing hands down in the very weird popularity contest featuring them and a thoroughly unpleasant and dangerous criminal.

The prosecutors don't attack women and children. CB did and will likely do so again according to the forensic psychiatrist heard at this trial.

Can't see how it offers any useful evidence to a prosecution, unless they invent a new offence of 'looking ugly and frightening the children'

Although he was pretty bullish in the interviews post verdict. Full of denial of the facts and acting like an appeal was all in hand and only a matter of time away. With that head in sand attitude, who knows what he'll do next?

Surely there must be tourist photos or videos with him in the background in PDL that week. I’m guessing the BKA will have that evidence. On the flip-side, I’m very surprised the press haven’t gotten hold of an image with him in the area that week or the weeks prior. Hard to imagine a press who’d opt to keep that quiet.
Initially I thought so, but, in fact, I doubt if there is any.
It would be just another "mere" coincidence. Instead, just another lucky point for CB.

So have I got this right?
If there are no photos of CB in PDL, that's lucky for him, rather than he perhaps not being there to be photographed ?

Possibly there will be a bigger argument given to what really matters which is who was at the end of CB's mobile phone in PDL on the night MM vanished.

The more photos I see of CB, the more I think he looks like this drawing
The problem is you are comparing a 47 year old CB to an artist impression from 17 years ago. In that time CB has abused himself and spent the last seven years in prison. Even Tom Cruise wouldn’t look like he did at 30 after 17 years of hard living and jail time.

This comparison is not necessary because the footage from the trip with the radio group is available online. This shows how CB looked one month before MM vanished.

That he would be described as a very ugly pockmarked blonde guy is just not right.

I can’t tell if you actually mean some of the stuff you say, but CB being in the area on multiple occasions probably adds a bit of value.

I recon they’ll have him in area via background of a holiday snap. Yep - irrespective of any & all things CB - it’ll always have yet another innocent explanation. It’s so predictable that it gets boring!

On another note - the times of the sightings of ‘coincidence man’ vary quite a lot. From early in the morning to mid-afternoon in the week & mid-afternoon on the day. One witness said she spotted coincidence man with a pen attached to a piece of string attached to his pocket. <modsnip: hinting at inside knowledge>

Look at his mug shots from when he was younger. The bloke looked rats back then too. Pitted skin tends to happen in adolescence & you can see it in the earlier photos. I don’t think he coincidentally grew these scars in the time we’ve been discussing him.

Can you please provide a source for the alleged sighting?

Yep - HCW is normally 1 of 2 things. 1 - The lead prosecutor 2 - The enemy to the cause.

When heavily invested it’s very easy to fall into the trap of not computing that these are real people & not characters in a TV show.

I gave a link which showed him at the time.

That the person in the video is the same person in the artists impression is irreconcilable by anyone trying to be objective.

The egg with hair was the biggest clanger. I think it’s sensible to read the witness accounts too. If not we’ll be checking egg boxes for missing eggs….

Unfortunately there was no evidence like this in the recent trial and in many incidences prosecutors had to fight an uphill battle to have whatever witnesses and what evidence there was heard in court.

An appeal has been requested based on shortcomings such as these.
yet they had witnesses whose so called evidence was pointless. Actually most of the witnesses were for the prosecution.

It is quite disappointing that the forces of law and order in the shape of the BKA and the German prosecution service are so often the butt of criticism that it has become tiresome.

If criticism is warranted - fair enough - voice it and make the point, because quite simply, no individual or organisation gets it right 100% of the time.

It is the personalisation against people for the simple reason of
  • animosity
  • because a person is doing a particular job
  • and on the whole she/he is doing it well
which is of concern.

What I find most worrying about the animosity I complain about is that it is exclusively directed at law enforcement. In threads discussing the trial of a known abuser and rapist - why are law enforcement portrayed as the bad guys.

I cannot go through the daily schedule for the court on the days when it was in session which gives a list of the witnesses called and whether or not they were witnesses for the defence or the prosecution.

If it is in the public domain, I've not seen it. Which puts me at a disadvantage to your argument.

But I have seen instances of the total character assassination of witnesses which as a Briton is completely alien to me despite my sources emanating from our much criticised "gutter press".

Just as an aside - the judge reading out a preposterous false statement about the plaintiff in a rape trial knowing it to be false - just should not have happened.
That alone merits an appeal being applied for
My opinion

Thank you for that particular link. It was very useful when it was first published because at that precise time there was a mocked up image of CB in circulation showing him in dreadlocks.
His hair was actually very short, back and sides, as can be seen from the video.

The person in the video could very well have been the person depicted in the artist's drawing.
  • The adolescent acne scars would have been a feature then as they are now.
  • the artist has caught the same saturnine look then that the camera caught in the courtroom
  • the thin lips depicted and tight expression match
  • and the artist has caught not only the shape of the ears but their size
  • although at present his hair is unkempt he has the same high brow and the same hairline captured by the artist
Whoever supplied the artist with the information for the sketch got a very good look at the subject who could very well be CB.
