I did read on SM that RR's phone an IPhone 6 is.
And so, I have read that it seems very easy to unlock 'The code lock that allows users to secure access to the iPhone can be disabled in a matter of seconds. This can be done by pressing the emergency call button, then pressing the gate three times, pressing the call button and immediately pressing the lock button.'

I wonder if that would be helpful in terms of tracking his movements around the time of the disappearance - although everyone should know that it's best to leave the phone at home when committing a crime.

The time between 7.00 and 8.00/8.42 seems crucial about what happened and it was stated RR turned her phone off around 7.00 Then later the phone re-dailed in at the WiFi at sisters house. Imo, it should not be that difficult to unlock the phone, other then Rebecca herself so it can't be traced
TV channel RTL had a short interview with Rebecca's father.

Video clip at the top.

So denkt Rebeccas Vater über ihren Schwager: "Er leidet wie wir"

Main points
- Florian (BIL) is not feeling well and "suffers just like us"
- police has advised the family not to talk about certain aspects/details of the investigation/disappearance
- father says, in the beginning he didn't know that so he mentioned the missing blanket to media. Police told him he should not have done that. He points out that he didn't mention the color of the blanket though.
- family is grateful for all the media attention the case gets

A couple of friends of the the family are also interviewed who say they are concerned for Becci and try to help any way the can.
Just watched it, RR's father wasn't questioned or talked about the deleted Instagram pictures ...
Was that confusion or something that also wasn't to suppose to be mentioned?

I'm not convinced that Rebecca was in the house at 7AM. The sister said that she didn't notice whether Rebecca was on the sofa at 7AM. The brother-in-law said that she was not there at 7:15 (statement to wife) and again said that she was not there at 8:30 (statement to Rebecca's mom). We know that her phone was at the house because of the router logs, but no one can place her at the house at anytime that morning. I think it's a real possibility that Rebecca was gone before 7AM and the only way that the brother-in-law can be cleared is that the phone is found at the house. Otherwise, he got rid of the phone after he said that Rebecca was gone.

Couldn't evidence of a crime be based on the brother-in-law stating that at 7:15AM she was no longer in the house, and evidence from the scene proving that her phone was connected to the house router between 6 and 8AM? That's the contradiction that places the brother-in-law under suspicion, and it is evidence from the house. If her phone is not in the house today, then he has to explain why her phone was in the house after he said that she was gone.
I was wondering the same thing...

perhaps the "evidence" lies within the technology of the house....
The times in which the BIL and RR were there...

and the contradictions of statements?

Just some ideas...

Yes that is certainly true. But my impression was that police made the statement that evidence in the house pointed to a crime after the forensic search was done last Thursday and it was worded in a way ("traces") that sounds like they must have found something other than the information from the router. moo
good catch, Elainera!

Could be,but if she left the house ( willingly) early in the morning she would have taken her phone with her. No way, a 15 year old would go without it (in my strongest opinion) unless forced too..It does seems risky to take someone, when there are people on the house.

First I thought Jessica had one child,a one year old son ,but guess.. I was mistaken, she has two kids, according to MSM ,if I remember right..?
I do believe they have that age when they wake up early and are very curious,at specially when.noticed something seen or heard out of the ordinary..

Rebecca (15) vermisst: Staatsanwalt will Haftbefehl gegen Schwager

Exactly two weeks ago Rebecca Reusch (15) disappeared under mysterious circumstances from the house of her sister Jessica (27) and her brother-in-law in Berlin-Neukölln. Since February 18, the student from Britz lacks any sign of life. With each passing day, the hope of finding her alive disappears. And the horrible suspicion that just her brother in law could have to do with her disappearance.

Berlin - Rebecca's brother-in-law, Florian R. (27), was arrested on Thursday and investigators ransacked his home. But then he was released again - no arrest warrant.

Now the turning point: As BILD learned from legal circles, the investigating prosecutor wants to appeal against the judicial decision of Friday, not to issue a warrant against hotel chef Florian R.

The 15-year-old's brother-in-law had been arrested on account of "unresolved contradictions between his statements and the latest findings", the police said after the visit.

Apparently, however, no evidence could be found during the search, which transferred the brother-in-law directly. The evaluation of the found objects and traces will take several days, according to prosecutors.

The police are meanwhile in any case from a homicidal offense. And for the investigating prosecutor Florian R. is still urgently suspects, should therefore come into custody. When the complaint should be filed, but so far was not yet clear.

Just wanna say a quick word to @Elainera for being so helpful with translations and so many good points. Translating adds a really interesting but tricky twist to this sleuthing and without you most of us would be so lost lol

This (from your link) stands out for me:

"Apparently, however, no evidence could be found during the search"

I'm curious how circumstantial trace evidence found in the house could be useful. The victim and suspect spent time together at the house. Any trace evidence of them together will be dismissed simply because no one can connect trace evidence with a date. Trace evidence of Rebecca's blanket in the brother-in-law's car might strengthen the case, but not if there was any other instance where the blanket was in the car.

The cell phone log evidence contradicts statements from the brother-in-law. I hope investigators are able to track his movements and determine what happened to Rebecca.

Aww so nice of you to say that, I appreciate it :) I do enjoy translating.

I think @cybervampira is also German, or at least speaks the language, from what I've seen. She has also helped a lot in this and other cases with translations.

Thanks for posting this Ched!

Very interesting that they want to appeal the judge's decision. They must be very certain that the BIL is involved. I would love to know all the details! I kind of doubt that the time discrepancies are all they have. I would like to know why the judge did not agree with the prosecutor.

Placing Rebecca's phone at the house after the brother-in-law said that she was not at home is weak evidence of his involvement in her disappearance. It could just as easily be argued that she was still at the house and he was unaware. That is, he made an honest mistake about whether she had left the house at 7:15 or 8:30AM.

You can also set up your iPhone to be unlocked with your fingerprint. If she had that, there's a few scenarios where he could manage to unlock her phone :(

I agree, she could have been within router range outside, or in the bathroom and he missed it. If he did something to her and managed to leave no trace evidence, he wouldn't screw up on the phone issue. Maybe someone told her I will pick you up and take you to school "BUT" it has to be before I go to work?

Perhaps Rebecca and her phone were both at the house at 8:30AM, except that Rebecca was no longer alive.

What sort of relevant trace evidence could be found? Trace evidence is:

"Fibers, hair and other such microscopic evidence which relates to the commission of a crime." (link)

Every fiber, hair and other microscopic piece of evidence connecting Rebecca and her brother-in-law at their home is meaningless simply because there is a reasonable explanation for all trace evidence connecting the two at that location.

  • #396
This is not to say that there is no evidence at the home. The router log evidence is from the home and that information contradicts statements made by the brother-in-law. That seems to be the only fact that implicates the brother-in-law, but even that can be explained as the brother-in-law being mistaken about when Rebecca left for school that morning.

Unless they found his fresh dna on the bedsheets she was supposed to have been sleeping on. But then again, they would probably long have been washed as the forensic search only happened 10 days after she disappeared.

You’re the #1 BESTEST German translator because my English is kind of half-baked as y‘all will notice from time to time! :)

Awww my God more praise! This is turning out to be a really enjoyable evening. Thank you cyber!:)

But I never noticed your English being "half-baked" , honestly. It's just fine!

Btw I'm also half-half, half German half Spanish, raised in Germany. But my Spanish is pretty useless, unfortunately.
