Although the father said in an interview a couple of days ago that police told him not to share any more details with the media, and he pointed out that he had not revealed the color of the fleece blanket, tagesspiegel.de now reveals that is was a purple blanket. They don't say who told them this.

"It's about a purple blanket."

Vermisste 15-Jährige: Rebeccas Schwager schweigt auch in Untersuchungshaft - Berlin - Tagesspiegel

Also from the article:

The disappearance of the blanket and the now found fiber traces may have been presented by the investigators as a clear indication to the magistrate, as it is explained from police circles. Now the investigators would have to further substantiate the suspicion, because in particular DNA or fiber traces in the family are quite problematic.

It must be ruled out that the hair and fiber traces are not in the trunk simply due to normal family circumstances, for example because Rebecca had come with her oldest sister anyway and packed her things in the trunk.

And this is very interesting:

The "BZ" claims to have learned that a "mobile license plate detection system called KESY" on the morning of Rebecca's disappearance has registered the number plate of the pink Twingo on the highway to Frankfurt / Oder. According to the report, however, the Brandenburg authorities did not confirm or deny this information.

So now we know they have a pink Twingo.

Unless Rebecca somehow acquired a second phone, wouldn't the police be able to see any other activity on her 'known' phone after the 8am shutoff?

ETA: From the article (BBM): she had phoned someone...
Good point!

So someone in that article is claiming that their car was recorded to have gone out of their city in the morning hours of that day??

Are they talking about highway 12 to Frankfurt an der oder? Or Oder? Or frankfurt? All 3 exist and I can’t differentiate

The pattern of fibers from a blanket that was used to wrap a body would be much different than the pattern of fibers from a blanket that was likely folded and tossed in the trunk/boot. A body has weight and would release fibers along the full width. I would expect the blanket may get caught up on both sides of the car, and even get caught in the closing mechanism. The back of a Twingo seems rather tiny. Is it even possible to do such a thing?

The Oder is a river that goes through Frankfurt. "Frankfurt an der Oder" is simply Frankfurt.

If this was their car he must have gotten it back from his wife because she took it to drive to work, right?

Well I don't know whether to believe this information or not.

It sounds like a breakthrough if true. They can really grill him with questions about it. (Can they still question him now?)

Or maybe his wife went to Frankfurt.

Possibly but that would be rather far to travel for a nurse? But you never know, maybe she did for some work related reason. Should be easy to verify.

Just to further explain why they say ”Frankfurt an der Oder“ and not just Frankfurt. There are two big cities named Frankfurt in Germany. Frankfurt an der Oder (near river Oder, federal state Brandenburg) and Frankfurt am Main (river Main, federal state Hesse). So, when you book a ticket to Frankfurt, you need to add ”an der Oder“ or ”am Main“.

Of course! Thank you cyber. What was I thinking? (Not much, need sleep!) The two cities with the same name would of course create confusion for non-German speakers.

I just checked, it's actually closer to Berlin than I thought, only about 100km distance. So maybe the wife did drive out there.

If this recorded license plate piece is true, and if this car passed that marker before 7am, then in my mind she will be found in that direction.
:(

I am not sure, she works as a nurse (real estate if I remember right) thought it came up by bad translation, but then again got the cars mixed up too..

Investigators no longer believe that Rebecca will be found alive
"The top priority is to find Rebecca," said a spokeswoman for the prosecutor . There are a lot of clues, but none can't tell for reasons of tactical reasons nothing. A corpse could provide the homicide, possible evidence of the perpetrator, such as DNA traces, hair or fingerprints. But with every passing day after the death of a human, the work of securing evidence becomes more difficult.

Also, the use of search dogs and a helicopter in the district of Britzdistrict Neukölln led so far as little as the goal as the publication of photos and 348 tips were received by Tuesday at the police cues.

Rebecca had spent the night of February 18 in the family home of her sister in a quiet residential area. She disappeared at night or in the morning. Shortly thereafter, her phone was switched off permanently.

SBM. What it says is that ONLY the BIL had access to the car at these times.

That would exclude the sister driving to work.

  • #456
BTW it is VERY rare in Germany that police publishes mugshots to ask for help. They usually only publish video surveillance if they don’t know who the suspect is.

That doesn't fully add up since Rebecca's sister left at 7AM to take children to daycare. Is it possible that he picked up the car from her work or that they have two cars? Two cars makes a lot more sense for a family with young children, two jobs, and his job including long late hours in the restaurant industry.

I was thinking the same thing. Police must be very certain that he is involved, and they must be very desperate to find her body to ensure a conviction.

Maybe they do. The article posted above only says this car is used by Rebecca‘s sister‘s family.

Crumbs , I was sort of thinking he was going to be innocent as the family were so strongly behind him
