Obama endlessly tried congress would not cooperate

he was able to connect SS disability for ental illness to the gun data base but the minutes Trump got he wiped it out

its the past tho nothing we can do all we can do now is look forward

Yet some expect this administration to wave a magic wand to get Congress to 'cooperate'. It doesn't work like that. 'We the people' elect Congress.

Its a mess! The sad reality emotions are high now while the truth is nothing will or can happen

there is this IMO core belief that people who are up to murdering as many people as possible with machine guns and cant legally get a machine gun makes no sense

there are tons of ways to get one illegally and it is my belief that mass murderers who are not mentally well are concerned about breaking some law!!

To own a pitbull is a choice. To own a gun is a Constitutional right. I don't see how these two can be compared.

Well it shouldn't be a right if it can't be properly controlled. Children (and other entirely innocent people) are literally dying, dozens of them every day, because of your constitutional right. Some posters here are coming across as extremely blinkered / brainwashed.

Here is an old British law: Welshmen are prohibited from entering the city of Chester before the sun rises and have to leave again before the sun goes down, according to an old bylaw. Which perhaps explains the fact that it is still technically OK to shoot a Welshman on a Sunday inside the city walls – as long as it’s after midnight and with a crossbow.

So I drive over to Chester with a crossbow one Saturday night, wait til 12:01 and then shoot anyone with a Welsh accent, and because it's an old rule, that's ok, right?

I have no idea but I’d guess he’s saying the NRA will support any changes that will help to make America’s schools safer.

Where have they been (other than making millions selling machine guns)

Unless Big Foot is real and breaking into anyones home burglars will fall will a bullet from a regular gun.

All we have to really remember is why is this stuff people that want to kill as many as possible in as short time the weapon they chose

there are reasons

they are glaring

if you see big foot pls let me know !!

I found this list on Wikipedia. A few post 1996 massacres involved guns. Looks like others involve arson, blunt instruments and stabbings.

What really matters is after change was made there was change

But i dont think they are as crazy with the gun stuff as USA

We are the laughing stock of the world -- making headlines every 3 days or so slaughtering each other with machine guns

Many other nations think we are bonkers

watch sky news sometimes It goes like and over the states again............

to most civilized societies dicing up kids into pieces is an abomination

look up some stuff on what that gun did to tiny people in Sandy Hook -- have vomit bag readily available

Proficiency in the use of these firearms must be regularly demonstrated through qualifying tests; in most states, re-qualification must occur annually.

https://www.correctionalofficeredu.org/training/

so ... if we were to arm our teachers, are we going to raise their salaries to compensate for the added stress/anxiety, and annual training/tests, etc. ?

You are not paying attn my dear - he offered a whopping $19 a week before taxes for taking on this added feature .

I wonder if he would give me 19 more a week if I decided I want to fly jetliners.

I like jets -- these guys like guns

there retired there old the fact that they had proficiency some years ago is irrelevant I dont think a cop 20 years ago was battling with machine guns moo

His comment about his going into the school without a gun today is sit com gold

He did bone spurs 4 times when he was young

for some reason some heavy 70 year old does not conjure up "hero"

he was a coward when he was young.....

late night is going to hysterical tonight

If the United States is truly the “laughingstock of the world” and they all think we’re “bonkers,” why are so many people from other countries wanting to move here?

We are the laughingstock of the wealthier, first world that doesn't worry about their children being massacred in school. People from poor, and war torn countries are the ones wanting to move here.

I’m not so sure about that. Plenty of people would love to have our freedoms and our opportunities to own as many firearms as we want.

LOL.

Can anyone explain why Trump is giving over power or even taking into consideration the views of the NRA.
He keeps saying they ( the NRA) will do the right thing.

Because the NRA equals the second amendment. And those who want gun reforms are deemed anti second amendment according to the NRA...

And Eta; NRA are patriots equals gun owners are patriots. Therefore those who want reforms are anti second amendment and not true patriots...

Politicians are totally beholden by their support and I think the "corporate farewell" this past week to the NRA is people are tired of having the second amendment hijacked for the bottom line, for power for power's sake while kids are being mowed down.

No, no they wouldn't. Nobody from the Westernised world wants your gun culture or stupidly high number of shooting sprees, thanks. Nobody from the UK, Canada, Australia or New Zealand envies your right to bear arms, we feel genuinely sorry for the millions of decent Americans caught in this horrible situation and watch sadly from afar, wondering when you will wake up and smell the coffee.

Unless you’re a mind reader you don’t know how everyone feels in the countries you named.

Many are being critical of the current administration and gun reform. I would have to ask why didn't the previous administration get it done?

Most likely because everything one side tried to pass was denied by the other. The last administration only had a majority for a few months of the 8 years (4 months, I believe. It was reported somewhere in this thread)

For the weary White House, Florida shooting offered a ‘reprieve’ from scandals

I think a lot of the bla bla today was also to distract they have had a bad two weeks

This is the first time he has ever talked about it (gun control) and although he had trouble remaining on topic it did go on a long time .

So it will take up airtime burying other recent events in the last several days.

Mueller did a bunch of stuff last Friday night and Daca today got blown up . The DACA folks are fine for at least a year and half.

And Kelly's orders on clearances was supposed to go into effect Friday night and nothing was done /

So this buries the media (except MSNBC of course!)

They even admitted this :

A Trump White House official reportedly said coverage of the mass shooting at a Florida high school last week has given the administration “a reprieve” from having to deal with bad publicity.
“For everyone, it was a distraction or a reprieve,” the official told the Washington Post. “A lot of people here felt like it was a reprieve from seven or eight days of just getting pummeled.”
