Gun Control Debate #2

Ah, gotcha. I agree.

I do like to read links as well. But when they are posted with no description or backstory, I probably won’t click them. That goes for any thread or forum. But on this particular thread I’ve seen a lot of links posted with no brief description.

I looked and I couldn't find a single one!

Even more shockingly, there also seems to be no studies about Americans who wish to live in countries without constitutional rights!

Curious and curiouser...

Which makes me wonder why it keeps coming up in these discussions. Why is it important to so many Americans if our gun laws are the envy of citizens in other countries? I don't know why it matters.

https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.ne...-if-donald-trump-becomes-president-1.12588837

This is a list of some celebs who “threatened” to leave. I’d be willing to bet most are still living in their CA mansions.

LOL!

And by the way, the air of antagonism, and hostility is real. It's what got the Polivent forums shut down, ( good riddance!). Differing opinions often lead to compromise and good Solutions, but aggressively attacking just for the sake of disparaging America, its government and /or those who hold opposing views just gets ugly and leads nowhere. IMO

Yes I appreciate the concern they have for others in a different country. Thanks to all who are looking out for the US and concerned. I’ll leave it at that bc every time I reply it keeps re-subscribing me ha.

Its the same we can't get rid of machine guns and you cant get rid of us !! SMile

As outlined earlier from MSNBC attorney the supreme court has ruled three times
that weapons of war ( that is what this one is it was the predecessor to the M4) --are
not protected from regulation -- that is how the automatic one happened.

What manufacturers did was change the handle to plastic and bingo here we are

Marco Rubio explained all that on global tv in the live show

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZaLh74eXTDo

It is kinda like changing the interior of a car and calling it something else. A car is a car!

I think I need to clear up a misconception that some seem to have- the NRA is NOT a gun manufacturer. It stands for National Rifle Association and their only purpose is to protect our 2nd Amendment rights. Google it if you don’t believe me.

MSNBC

He is talking about washing machines??

Discussing Ford cars ??

Immigration?

Tariffs on solar panels ??

Transportation ?

Old military junk?

North Korea?

he directed Attorney General Jeff Sessions to draft regulations

he described his belief that "I'd run in there even if I didn't have a weapon," he added.

"I want my schools protected like my banks ..... (what does that mean?)

--
White House has said it is currently in the "listening phase"-- anyone know how long listening phases last??

--One idea issue chip cards to every student in the United States of America

--Close every door in AMerican schools but one door per school

-- according to him if schools had some teachers with pistols the folks with machine guns would never go into any school in America cause "bullets will be going toward the guy with machine gun"

-- "Cops don't love students the way teachers do"

-- A Gov bought up Hippa he didn't seem to know what it is

-- We can start a committee to study how to use CCTV.

-- He wants armed teachers to get up to $19.23 a week to be armed in schools (his $1000 bonus)

--He is not sure but he thinks there are maybe 9 states that have some staff armed

--erroneously talking about 3 other deputies accused of not going on. According to Israel on Jake Tapper that is not true.

-- if they know they are going to be dead they wont go in a school ( I suppose we forget about suicidal shooters)

-- possibly rate violent media

-- he thinks the armed school staff should be like good tennis players or golfers -- know how to do it

--does not like bump stocks despite the reality that they have allegedly used in one shooting.

--he keeps talking about "smoke" but I cant figure out what he is talking about --

--talking about a terrorist using a car

--discussing how he used to get great press

--Kelly and Pence in the room

--The federal govt will be behind " any state no matter what each state wants to do "

There are teacher shortages all over the US. That $19.23 is a double winner. Paymenr for being expected to be like a SWAT team member and a fantastic money incentive to do an incredibly difficult job as it is! Brilliant!

Most of the European machine gun attacks are pure real terrorists not citizens blowing each other to pieces - that is a distinction IMO.

Here it is the opposite we have a much bigger chance of getting murdered by fellow citizens with machine guns than actual terroists

Between 1975 and 2015, the “annual chance of being murdered by somebody other than a foreign-born terrorist was 252.9 times greater than the chance of dying in a terrorist attack committed by a foreign-born terrorist,

[E]very jihadist who conducted a lethal attack inside the United States since 9/11 was a citizen or legal resident,”

I know you are coming out of retirement for all this wealth!!

Colbert is starting it will be interesting if he does the comment about believing he might just be tempted to run into the school to save everyone himself.

Lets see !! Speech today was loaded with tons of material -- I am curious to see which part they go for !

Ha yep he is diving in with the bone spurs !!!!!!

I forgot this one he was suggestions that movies ought to be rated as it relates to violent content!! Ahhh

It's a political firearm advocacy lobby, imo.

But I Googled it, too, just to make sure.

US gun control: What is the NRA and why is it so powerful?

Earlier today I posted (post 752) that the NRA represents the makers of guns. I'm aware that the NRA aren't actually manufacturers of guns.
As far as if their sole purpose is to protect the second amendment...that would be a matter of opinion and would depend on which website you click open

http://www.businessinsider.com/gun-industry-funds-nra-2013-1

From my link:
"Today's NRA is a virtual subsidiary of the gun industry," said Josh Sugarmann, executive director of the Violence Policy Center. "While the NRA portrays itself as protecting the 'freedom' of individual gun owners, it's actually working to protect the freedom of the gun industry to manufacture and sell virtually any weapon or accessory."

rbbm (my original post is below)

1. That's not what I asked.

2. Cruz isn't dead.

??

Are you serious? The right to kill someone who’s in the middle of a mass murder incident? Just think if Cruz had been killed halfway through the incident and instead of 17 killed there were only 8 killed. That wouldn’t be a good thing in your opinion? You’d rather let Cruz live so many more people would die, just so the killer could have his “due process?”

Are we, as a society, willing to forfeit the right to due process by allowing citizens (teachers) the right to shoot and kill the mentally ill?

Honest question.

Not sure where you’re getting your information but bullets fired from an AR-15 do not tumble. If they do, it’s a defective firearm. The damage the bullet does that you’re referring to is due to the high velocity.

https://www.thetrace.org/2017/06/physics-deadly-bullets-assault-rifles/

The bullet that struck U.S. Representative Steve Scalise last week was travelling at somewhere between 1,100 and 2,600 feet per second. The projectile, a 7.62 x 39 bullet, hit the House majority whip with between 370 and 1,550 foot-pounds of force. The rifle round, which is longer than a pistol projectile, likely also began tumbling after its point collided with his hip. That meant that the tip didn’t just bore straight through him, but rather that the whole length of the projectile rotated over and over through Scalise’s body, ripping a wider hole and distributing a bigger shock wave throughout his bones and tissue.

Here's an article on the history of the NRA.

https://www.npr.org/2017/10/10/556578593/the-nra-wasnt-always-against-gun-restrictions

"The modern-day NRA has a well-established response formula after mass shootings...First ... the organization remains silent for a period of days, offering only a message of sympathy for the victims and a request that the tragedy 'not be politicized.' Then ... the organization begins to engage, usually through a few officers and spokespersons who have been through this multiple times..."

Thanks for the link, human! From the link (rbbm):

Scalise, a Republican from Louisiana whose condition has been upgraded to “serious,” suffered broken bones, ruptured blood vessels, and shredded internal organs.

The gunman was able to inflict such extensive damage from across a baseball field because he was using a semiautomatic rifle that may have qualified as an assault weapon, akin to a standard infantry combat weapon.

Some basic physics explains why the choice of weapon, or more precisely, the choice of bullet, enabled the suspect, James Hodgkinson, who was killed by law enforcement officers, to wreak so much havoc.

They had one of the victims today and her wounds were horrid . And I am watching her thinking how can she be sitting there

she talked briefly and I was so relieved it seemed like she was taking pain meds I thought oh thank god

the described what the bullets did inside her it was awful

Okay, but why are you looking at the 7.62x39 cartridge? The cartridge that was used in the Florida shooting was the 223 Remington. Big difference, 30 caliber versus 22 caliber. Not that it really matters. I wouldn’t want to be shot with either one. But the “tumbling bullet” theory is more of a myth than anything to apparently try to make certain guns scarier than they already are.

If the United States is truly the “laughingstock of the world” and they all think we’re “bonkers,” why are so many people from other countries wanting to move here?

I think people from more repressive or poverty stricken places want to move to the US. Are people from First world nations clamoring to come to the US?

I have retired to a foreign country. People are terrified of the US insanity nowadays. But they do have very clever jokes. The latest one I saw was a meme on my FB group here that is like the US Nextdoor.

It shows a bunch of guys covered in mud with their assault rifles. Arnold Schwarzenegger is in it so it must ve from a movie he did.

It says that the person visited a US high school and met the teachers,

There are no guns here so the absurdity of it simply amazes.

The rest of the article discusses it. And there are plemty of articles including the article from the trauma surgeon who treated the Parkland kids. It is on here somewhere but I will look for it and post since it must have been missed by some
