People that work in the Mining industry earn big incomes as a matter of fact.

In Australia that is the case, is it in the US? Everything that I own is due to coal and the money made by mining it. Just about over, now though.

I don't think we can compare a country of some 30 odd million people, (Aus.) to a country of 320 or so million people,(U.S.A.). Different cultures and histories as well.

How about if you compare to Florida, for instance?

How is the culture different? And it was a British colony just as was the US

My husband, his father and my two sons in law, worked or still work in mining and have earned great livings from it, but they made sure that my grandchildren were not tempted by 17year old's making $130,000 a year and getting trapped in a souless job.

Not mentioned is that Australia has huge issues with the native population. There are issues with immigrant internment camps. The native population was slaughtered by the thousands and has the highest incarceration rate.

And in the U.S.A. a hundred million Native Americans were genocided. America has a much worse problem with their Native peoples than Australia.
