Does this mean she has been appointed a Public Defender?

Reads that way? Did RF decide Misty is basically doomed on these charges and given her attitude and the circus he was better off pulling out and applying his pro bono efforts elsewhere or .... Misty decided to try her luck with someone else who is not so strict and can just get her out?

Stupid is as .....

Well she didn't listen to him anyway.

My first post here. I think this means Fields has applied for public defender status so he'll at least get paid something for his representation of Misty. I wouldn't blame him for not wanting to do it pro bono.

DELETE-------

All I'm going say is bad choice!

  • #48
Maybe she didn't listen to him and wants Padilla to bond her out, like she said in the jail videos. Oh my, Padilla, don't bail her butt out!

  • #49
It only list the PD on the 2/3 Charges nothing chaged on the 1/21 not yet anyways

  • #50
Misty may have dropped him, she was saying that in the jail house tapes, maybe she dropped him, not him dropping her.

Welcome to Weblseuths!! Nice first post. I agree it's a formality. Or they're bringing in a PD to do the leg work and Fields will advise. I don't think Fields is going anywhere. For one thing, these actions took place on the 18th and Fields sent a follow up letter to LP on the 22nd. That tells me she didn't fire him.

:woohoo: Welcome, Cookie21! :woohoo:

Misty is probably taking up much of his time... He deserves to get paid.

If it's him I wonder why they didn't file for a public defender status right away.

Once Fields got a look at actual evidence in the drug busts he may have realized this was going to be a lot more time consuming than he initially thought. That or trying to make some kind of deal is going to take a lot of time. Time he needs to be paid for, small firm in a small town, might as well try.

I'm not sure I've ever read or heard that he was doing this pro bono. As wonderful as he is, I do not think he just jumped right into the middle of this ordeal of his own accord.

Since she was not a suspect back in May, I don't know how or why she went to an attorney back then. [iirc, that's when we first heard about Robbie.] I cannot imagine her in-laws forking out the $$ for an attorney to represent her, and it doesn't sound like her family could even afford an initial consult.

Hmm.....

What was going on in May?

Is that when Kimball & Snider were still representing Ron? [btw - not sure about sp on Kimball]

Interesting, Jose Baez went to the same law school in Miami. Not that it says much, as I have no idea how many law schools are in FL, but interesting.

I'm pretty sure that he had to pay his own way through college and law school which might explain his choice of schools.

p.s. Goooooo Ospreys! ;)

I think I've changed my mind- I'm not sure Misty has told Fields anything regarding Haleigh. And here's why- first, there's this stuff about Joe coming into light. I don't necessarily place a lot of credence on it, but there it is. But there was a comment Misty made in one of the visit tapes with her Mom- I can't remember if it's one I saw on NG or one I was watching online- but she was talking about LP getting her out and her talking to him and telling him something and she said she WOULD tell him something. The comment that made me think was "He'll make the cops look so stupid"

I still am not quite sure though. Maybe Fields is still hanging on to Misty through all her stuff because he knows it will be worth it in the end?

Hmmm. She had basically pointed the finger at JO from the get-go, so I wonder if the LE failure to find him involved a year ago is what would make them "look stupid". I wonder what is in the redactions!!!
Poor Haleigh, lost in a jumbled mess.
I wish she would get off all the drugs anti-depressants, everything and take another LDT. I firmly believe it just MIGHT make a difference if she was using back when she took the first ones & with all this UC stuff coming out it seems likely that she was. Its pathetic that she held back "details" so long noone can really believe her. I hope we find Haleigh and I hope RF can help. I just don't see him hanging in there merely for the drug case alone. Mr. Fields is not defending Misty on any charges related to Haleigh Cummings, because no one has been charged with that as yet. His focus should be on her drug charges right now... not on Haleigh's disappearance. What he knows or does not know regarding that case is not an issue, since it's still an ongoing investigation.

Misty did retain, or accepted, RF as her attorney during the HC investigation. I believe these two cases are intermeshed and he is protecting her from both. That is why he doesn't want LP to bail her out. JMO

Yes he is protecting Misty from Misty! He knows she would screw up on the outside and be in bigger trouble even if her parents don't seem to realize that!
