How many people were at Skyline the morning of June 4?

I don't know. Hello I am new and have been lurking for a long time. I am a mother and attend numerous school functions. I am amazed that even though the sign at the front of the school says please check in at the office, if I should choose to, I could get into the school in other ways without a hitch. Of course TMH is acting suspiciously, but did anyone ever take into consideration that it may in fact, be a random abduction? Please don't jump on me, I am aware that she allegedly tried to have Kaine killed and such, but "what If"?
This is just my humble opinion....
Thank you

Hi, welcome and yes, several members believe it is entirely possible that a stranger could have taken Kyron. Or at least that it cannot be so catagorically ruled out as LE seems to have done early on.

Hi westerncolorado! Welcome to WS!

Can I ask a simple question...cuz I can't understand the need for this information?

Just by BeanE's preliminary calculations and of course Terri's attendance quota...it's a lot of people and it's obvious it could be chaotic.

What I'd really like to find out is how can we invite a few of Skyline Elementary School's parents to join WS's to help us out with some answers to questions like this and of course other stuff, too! Like if they saw Kyron & Terri...

Well if we got real answers from folks who were actually there, what would we all talk about :) No, seriously, it's a great question and I wonder if Skyline parents were asked to not speak to anyone about what they saw in order to help the investigation stay on track (i.e., ruling out whack jobs who said they were there and also inadvertently giving info to the perp(s) that might aide them).

I'm wondering, was the general public actually invited to the event? Or, is that just an assumption based on them displaying the event on the school's (street-facing) billboard? I mean, I totally realize the fact that it was displayed publicly opens up the possibilities as far as who would have had the knowledge that the event was happening and leaves room for a shady character. But, I am just trying to figure out whether they actually stated anyone in the town could attend or whether it was just a poor choice of advertising the event outside?

And, fwiw, it makes sense that the timeframe surrounding when the first school bell rang would have been a chaotic time. Even if the initial parent walk-through and student tour was better organized, there is definitely the possibility that there would have been more rushing around and disorganization going on during the time that she says she left.

My best guess would be 350 as per how many questionnaires were returned by skyline students, parents & staff.

source of this guess would be here :)

"Officials said the investigation now is focused on checking 2,800 tips that have come in and 350 questionnaires returned by Skyline staff, parents and students about anything they might have seen June 4."

Oh great info, scotslass! Thank you! That gives us a good base for estimating parents and students.

We can just add in the teachers, which we have a good estimate of, and the school admin staff (might have to guess on that one, but I think it's just a few people), plus a few for random visitors.

Thanks again! :)

I was going to say that about the public. The general public wasn't invited. The sign outside was meant to inform parents. To the best of my knowledge, it was not advertised in any other way except internally.

More importantly, to me at least, is parking. There are how many parking places on the south/southeast lot? From what I have gathered thus far, Skyline was not like Portland "proper" and serviced by a city bus or local transit.

People have been critical about where Terri parked, but in looking at the school map and calculating the extra people coming that day, I really don't see how every parent/relative could have NOT parked on the access road or somewhere else.

I noticed early on in Ruby's thread that the parking area, even for such a small school, is miniscule. And factoring in the buses coming and going? It must have been a mess.

It looks to me like the school staff is already included in the 350.

This is slightly OT but related to "supervision" of students at Skyline. Excerpt from memo on the school's website today:

When we have a two hour late opening school starts at 10:45. Students may arrive at school at 10:35 on these days.

Please be aware that we do not have any child care on site on these days, and therefore have no adult supervision for students who show up early. Please be aware of this and be sure to adjust your day care plans accordingly. If you need before-school care, please contact xxxxx

I thought school started normally, at 8:45. These questions should be answered by now!!! Thanks for this info, Bette!

Just to be clear, I believe this policy is referring to late starts because of unexpected weather.

As far as advertising to the general public, I never saw anything in print other than the sign out front. But, from what I understand, all doors were unlocked that day, and there was no check in used for parents or guests either. So, if that is correct, then anyone (or any creep) from the general public could attend at any time before 10:00 a.m., when roll call and classes started.

Didn't the school spokeperson describe this as a "semi public event " ?

Don't know, but in our school district, 2 hours late for school opening is when there are "weather days " , usually snow days...

IIRC, the IB Science Fair was from 8 - 10 a.m....

**** by me to indicate the area I have a question about.

By saying that they don't have child care on site "these days" (the late opening), does it mean that on days when normal school hours are in effect that they do have child care on site? Does anyone know?

If so, was the child care there on the day of the science fair?

I don't have a child in elementary school so I don't understand the "child care...on these days" reference. Could someone please help?
