Hurricane Florence - September 2018

  • #541
Dear MaryG12,

How are you and how is the area affected by last night's storm?

Safe here - a few downed branches from last night while on my way to work this morning (I drove; too many water puddles on the roads still). We did not lose power though. Thank you so much for checking on me <3

Back to Florence:

Made contact with my Elizabethtown NC friend and asked if he was anywhere near Cape Fear River which is going to flood I'm sure - he's about four miles away from it. There's some smaller ponds, plus Greenes Pond, and some creeks (where would we be without Google Maps? LOL) but it sounds like he is on higher ground where he lives. It can make a difference, I know, having lived through Irma.

Dear MaryG12,

I join others in being relieved that you are okay.

Storms of any kind are frightening and can lead to disaster.

It greatly speaks to your compassion and kindness in contacting your friend. I believe there could be a wide ripple effect from this hurricane. We just don't know how wide the effect and in which directions.

Praying for everyone in the path of Hurricane Florence.

If anyone has SnapChat and knows how to pinch the screen, zoom to NC and you'll see people on the Outer Banks snapping from the beach! Sheesh, crazy fools!

I agree. Even though i love watching the coverage of people in the storms I personally would not recommend it. The main reason is flying debri. It always amazes me that more newscasters dont get beamed in the head with a chunk of something flying around.

remember this ?

I'd be too scared to be on a beach with a hurricane like Florence approaching.

Need to get back to work, end of my lunch break :)

I go outside during storms sometimes too. It can feel exhilarating. But not in a full-blown hurricane!

Is it the same one that's on the Weather Channel? The guy on the dock by the water that can hardly stand up in the wind? They need to put a rope on him at least...before he ends up in the water!

Thank goodness he is standing by a tree now

I let my cats out during Sandy. They had to "do their business". It was just before dark and the winds had died down, but when I looked out again a few minutes later and saw water flowing from all directions towards our house, I ran outside to call them. One cat came running, the other cat we couldn't find, but an hour later we heard him screaming from atop my husband's boat that was pulled out of the water and in the driveway. Hubby had to go swim to get him.

Honest, I'm a good pet mom. We thought the storm was over when the winds died. :(

Are you a lightweight! Why are you not hoping for 151 proof anything !!

I grew up going to the Mardi Gras in New Orleans.......giving anything than modest beer to an already irate crowd will only make thing uglier......it's like weapon maintaince, 1 or 2 drops of lubricant are good and recommended; a LOT more can just gum up the works!
