Hurricane Michael - October 2018

All is ok in Pinellas County. Moderate rain and wind gusts this afternoon. Same forecast for Wednesday if Michael continues on expected path. We stocked up on bottled water today, just in case he turns east toward Tampa Bay.

Thank you. I have relatives in St. Petersburg and resided there for a while. It is good to hear.

Rose, your post brought tears to my eyes. Wow thank you. Your mother's story is amazing and I totally understand. It is interesting you did not come out even more scathed. I do same thing with windows and up the volume of t.v.

Yes you are so right, animals blow me away with their surviving techniques. My brother teases me that my 5 lb cat Missy has my fears and anxiety. At the first hint of thunder or lightening she races for under the love seat which doesn't have much room underneath. My 9 lb cat Tabitha doesn't go to her hiding place until storm is more advanced.

Hurricane Sandy sounds like was quite the experience for your area and 90 mile an hour winds are not good in the woods. Eek. Scary.

Oh yes Websleuths has the most excellent Hurricane coverage. I have been a member for several years and it was only last year I discovered Websleuths covers more than murder and the missing. I was blown away lol. No pun intended.

Thank you to everyone on here. You are very special caring people.
Aw Katharine,
Thank you for the kind words.

Yes, up volume of TV.
I'll tell you this, my moms anxiety was dibilitating in her early life, especially, a 50's mom, husband in Korea, but wow she kicked 🤬🤬🤬 later, though NOT through thunderstorms!!!

My mother and I share an anxiety. I'm her little angel, but also I am her witness. That storm, that bolt of lightning that almost hit our house, the sound, was like a bomb.

The drop in the pressure is alarming.

947 mb means the storm is increasing in intensity.

I hope everyone who was ordered/advised to evacuate has already done so.

Praying for everyone in Michael's path.

The weather channel has just now reported that Michael is now a Cat 4 hurricane.

The National Hurricane Center (NHC) says Hurricane Michael is packing even more punch: It strengthened into a Category 4 storm early Wednesday, with maximum sustained winds of 130 mph. According to the NHC's latest advisory, Michael could produce a life-threatening storm surge as high as 13 feet and dump as much as a foot of rain in some places.

Weather officials say Michael has been drawing energy from warm Gulf of Mexico waters, with ocean temperatures in the mid-80s.

The NHC said Michael should make landfall midday Wednesday in the Florida Panhandle or Florida "Big Bend" area. The storm is then forecast to weaken as it moves through the Southeastern United States.

A Category 4 hurricane has never made landfall on the Florida Panhandle going back as far as meteorologists have kept records.

States of emergency were in effect in Florida, Alabama and Georgia.
Hurricane Michael becomes Category 4 brute, targets Florida Panhandle -- live updates

Major Hurricane Michael is bearing down on the Florida Panhandle as an extremely dangerous Category 4 hurricane. The storm is expected to make landfall near Panama City, Florida, around midday Wednesday.

The storm is expected to bring sustained winds of 80-100 mph with gusts of 120-160 mph to parts of the Florida Panhandle, mostly within 40 miles of where Michael makes landfall on Wednesday afternoon. The strongest gusts are likely just to the east of the center. This will lead to widespread tree and structural damage.
Reports: Category 4 Hurricane Michael poised to become most powerful storm ever to strike Florida Panhandle
