Hurricane Michael - October 2018

  • #161
If you are in the path that is expecting high winds which could spawn tornadoes remember to remove any objects inside your home that could become flying projectiles.

I don't keep anything on my kitchen counters except my stand mixer. My hubby took it off the counter and stored it in my pantry at the very back. You can store things inside your dishwasher making sure its locked.

Make sure you have cases of bottled water and coolers filled with ice in case you have loss of power and dont have a generator.

I have made large amounts of chicken and tuna salad all morning.. believe me everyone in our neighborhood has eaten my food at sometime. Lol

My hubby has been delivering them this morning to our neighbors along with bags of ice and bottled water. He is making sure they have coolers and if not we have many and will loan them out to those who may need one.

We have several elderly neighbors so he is going to their homes first. Now our neighbor down the street is helping him.

Also fill one of your bathtubs full of water to flush toilets in case you lose power.

Of course make sure your cell phones are full charged so you can be in touch with loved ones along with getting important weather alerts.

Thinking of all of you.

Cat 4 (major)

130-156 mph

Catastrophic damage will occur: Well-built framed homes can sustain severe damage with loss of most of the roof structure and/or some exterior walls. Most trees will be snapped or uprooted and power poles downed. Fallen trees and power poles will isolate residential areas. Power outages will last weeks to possibly months. Most of the area will be uninhabitable for weeks or months.

****
ETA: Only a small part of the hurricane will have cat 4 winds.

The lower the pressure the stronger the storm is. Seeing it still falling is very scary.

Very - especially this close to land and shallow water near land.

There kinda like giant vacuums -- they like to be over deep hot water - they get lots of water to suck up.

So for him to be close to land, the water shallower, near shore, and still be intensifying (and the eye tightening up ) is a really mean Michael - has so much energy,

Forward motion also matters in the noon to 3 on the clock -

new numbers soon

god the pressure is unreal -- there is usually like a little jet lag its kinda like the pressure is the fortune teller of what is coming in a little bit in terms of sustained winds

apparently a lot of folks in Panama Beach ignored warnings and are there

We have had steady rain for the past hour. Wind picking up some now and it isn't even close to us yet.

Have you seen the eye wall on radar? It isn't round, almost has a box shape. One of the weather peeps was reporting it to be even more dangerous (than a normal eye wall), if you happen to be in one of those areas.

We are supposed to get heavy rain and some wind effects here tomorrow from this storm.

At least it's fast moving but it's scary to see a Cat 4 that wants to be a Cat 5 barrel through! It's been what, 20 years since they saw a storm of this size and strength in the panhandle? Stay safe Florida!

Unbelievable, isn't it? I've had tears in my eyes the last few times I've updated.

ETA: I love this area of Florida. Some of my best memories are from vacationing there.
