Michigan feels Superstorm Sandy pain with power outages, high winds, waves

It may be centered over Pennsylvania, but the wet, icy power of Hurricane Sandy has created havoc in Michigan, resulting in high winds, power outages, canceled flights and tremendous waves on the Great Lakes.
The storm has killed at least 16 people in seven states, cut power to more than 7.4 million homes and businesses from the Carolinas to Ohio and caused scares at two nuclear power plants.
In Michigan, wind gusts of 60 to 70 mph were recorded along the Lake Huron shoreline in the Port Huron area, according to the National Weather Service in White Lake Township.
"Fort Gratiot, which is located about three miles north of Port Huron, recorded a gust of 74 mph," meteorologist Steve Considine said Tuesday morning. "Winds are dropping a bit now, but we can still expect gusts of 50 to 60 mph from the tip of the Thumb to the Port Huron/Sarnia area."
As of 8:30 a.m. Tuesday, the National Weather Service reported trace amounts of sleet and snow in some portions of Oakland and Genesee counties...
