Where will housing be found for Sandy's victims?

NEW YORK (AP) — Government leaders are turning their attention to the next crisis unfolding in the aftermath of Superstorm Sandy: finding housing for potentially tens of thousands of people left homeless.
The Federal Emergency Management Agency said it has already dispensed close to $200 million in emergency housing assistance and has put 34,000 people in the New York and New Jersey metropolitan area up in hotels and motels.
But local, state and federal officials have yet to lay out a specific, comprehensive plan for finding them long-term places to live, even as cold weather sets in. And given the scarcity and high cost of housing in the metropolitan area and the lack of open space, it could prove a monumental undertaking..............
Another storm — a nor'easter packing heavy rain and gusts of 50 to 60 mph — was headed for the metropolitan area Wednesday, threatening more flooding and power outages that could undo some of the repairs made in the past few days.
With the temperatures dropping into the 30s overnight, people in dark, unheated homes were urged to go to overnight shelters or daytime warming centers..............more at link.....
Still haven't heard from Jersey*Girl!
Yes, thinking of JerseyGirl, Filly, songline in Manhatten :what:
Who else? Someone on the thread was in Orange cty NY yesterday, need to go back and get names. Unbelievable how many we're in this storms path!
I have read different versions of this story leaving me to wonder what really happened. One story says they were washed from her arms, another story claims she left them hanging on to a tree while searching for help, and today a different story quoting a sheriff saying she placed them on the roof of her vehicle and they were washed away. One story says she was trying to get to a relative's house, another she was going to work (her nursing job) and still another saying she was heading to a shelter. One story said she had the children when she knocked on the door -- another story says she did not have the children. A story said she had the children, got no answer to her knocking, and lost her grip on them while trying to pick up a flower pot to break in the house. So what really happened?
This is truly a very sad story. There is no one to blame but the mother. It's the same to me as the african painted dogs killing the 2 year old. Momentary lapse of reason on the mothers part.
Omg I'm so very sorry. I just now had a chance to login. I've been home only twice this week. I'm cutting & pasting this message to everyone to save time in catching up. I'm so sorry to worry everyone. I've been volunteering & its taken up much of my time. I have several friends that have lost everything. The devastation is incredible. Very somber time along the Jersey shore right now. I'm humbled to my core knowing I've been giving my husband a hard time about finishing our house, then I saw so many people lost everything they ever had & the only home they've ever known. Very sad. I'm well, my family is well, all is good... But I needed a break to help my fellow man. Very sorry to worry everyone. Love yas all! Completely didn't mean to be rude, totally unintentional.
Xox, Jersey
PS- The news footage on tv doesn't even hit the tip of the iceberg. It's unbelievable, totally. Everything I ever knew of my shore memories as a child are just that now - memories - bc its all gone. AC looks good but North Jersey is horrible. The Red Cross is doing alot, they're amazing. FEMA reacted right away, so that's a good thing. We had a Stuff The Bus over the weekend last weekend & it turned out great. Everybody has come together to help. Makes me proud to be an American. For real. Like that kind of pride that tickles your belly & makes your heart beat fast.

i've also noticed that since Sunday, most of the media repeating this story is from Ireland, being the father, as you said, is Irish-American.
Awful situation, but I don't think Mrs. Moore was denied help because of her race, In those winds, so loud, you cannot hear the person talking even if you are shoulder to shoulder, also, I'm sure her voice was hoarse from her screaming, maybe confused Alan as to gender, adding to the fact that there were no children.
I feel the press has been unfair, and No apology or corrections, updates from CNN, the whole thing makes me sick and makes Americans , specifically, NY'ers look bad for the unfortunate decisions made by Mrs. Moore, I don't get off on bashing her, but my point is that the press and she pointed blame at a homeowner who was asked to help her when it was already too late for the boys. Here is article where she said " "I asked you to help me, you b***ard!"

I can't remember what I was searching under, but I found a website that is taking donations for the cost of the funeral and burial of the two boys. I'm not sure if it's due to money or if possibly the funeral home they wanted to use might not be up and running yet. I don't know that this donation page is legit, but here is the link if you want to see it:
