Not at all. Many dedicated people make it their life's work. I know a couple.
Thanks! Always a learning experience on here. Working on my degree from Websleuths U!

Hmmm. Didn’t work very well for him. I have been convinced he calmly planned these killings just to prove he could get away with it. I’m not at all sure of his reasoning now. Just very strange.
That’s what I think too; he just wanted to prove how smart he was, and commit a brilliant major crime.

As they say, “the best laid plans of mice and men often go awry.”

Brian Entin is currently live on twitter from Pullman-Moscow airport. He has confirmed that BK is en route in a "single prop small plane owned by Washington Police" and is currently over Wyoming. I can't quote a source as it's a live.
"He's kind of over Yellowstone now" according to his producer
Brian
"The criminal justice PhD student worked as a teaching assistant at the Pullman campus of WSU, where he had a reputation as a tough grader.

“He’d be grading you on what he ended up calling a ‘higher standard,'” Stinchfield told the outlet. “But what it really felt like to us was he was grading us like he would have graded himself as a PhD student … We were all annoyed by him.”

He said his professor “brought in Bryan, and he was like, ‘All right, go at him.’ And he had Bryan stand up. And a few people were on his side because they wanted to keep their high grades … but for the most part, it was like half of a 150-person class just asking these real critical questions.

Stinchfield added: “It wasn’t like yelling or anything, but it was certainly conflict.”

But Kohberger’s demeanor took an abrupt turn and his appearance changed after the shocking murders, the student said.”
"

Bryan Kohberger ‘seemed preoccupied’ after Idaho murders: former student
I wonder if it was torture for him to hear their discussion and what they thought of the perp.

Not to be "that girl," but they're flying BK on a single engine turbo prop plane.

Most of the megarich who charter/own planes fly on 2 engine jets like Learjets and Gulfstream which are much faster, maybe double the speed.
There is NO WAY I'd want to pass over the Rocky Mountains in a single engine plane with approaching darkness.

Yet another reason not to commit a serious crime.

BK better call Saul! There's a defense attorney shortage in OR currently, not sure about ID.

Because it's a single engine prop job!

Little more modern than that example, but yes still a single engine prop. He's not flying on the Wright brothers' plane or anything :D

Isn't being a public defender kind of like a residency in the medical field. Is it a starting point for new lawyers? No disrespect, that's just what I thought.
No, not at all, but that's a common misconception! I am not a public defender and I have never been a public defender, but I work with many of them now on committees, doing volunteer work, etc.

To work at the public defenders you commit to a number of years and you have to demonstrate a commitment to indigent defense. The PDs I know and work with care very deeply about fairness in the legal system and recognize how the state treats the "worst" among us establishes the laws we all have to live with.

Many people do move on from the PD to work in private practice but many stay and spend their careers focused on this. The federal defenders (public defenders but for federal crimes) is a prestigious program and hard to snag one of those jobs.

The issue now is the states just refuse to properly fund public defender programs so more than usual, the PDs are overworked and they are burning out. My state had 1/3 of its PDs leave citing overwork. No one IMO wants to do a bad job.

I joked that I do it for the money because private lawyers can charge what they want, control their caseloads. I only take cases I think are interesting and where I think I can help. PDs do not have that luxury - they take what they are assigned and they are paid a small salary. It is very tough, I could never do it.

Regarding the FBI : Laying out his options ?

I wish BK would forgo the trial and plead & throw himself on the mercy of the court, and in so doing, spare the families of the victims from a lengthy (& gruesome !) trial.
Of course we know this will most likely not happen.
He's going to fight it .

His family thinks he's innocent of this :

MONROE COUNTY, Penn.
- Idaho murder suspect Bryan Kohberger's family is "shocked" and doesn't believe he slaughtered four college students, according to a report.

"They don’t believe it to be Bryan. They can’t believe this," Monroe County Chief Public Defender Jason LaBar told NBC News. "They’re obviously shocked. This is certainly completely out of character, the allegations, and really they’re just trying to be supportive with the understanding that these four families have suffered loss."
The attorney added that the Washington State University Ph.D. student-turned-accused mass murderer told him he believes he will be found not guilty.

"He believes he’s going to be exonerated. That’s what he believes," said LaBar, who has visited Kohberger four times since his arrest. "Those were his words. He’s been very easy to talk to. Actually, he’s in a calm demeanor."
From the former atty.^^^

Given how vocal Jason LaBar has been, I can see why the judge issued a gag order.

The family of accused Idaho murderer Bryan Kohberger is standing by their son in an effort to “promote his presumption of innocence,” they said Sunday in their first public statement.

Kohberger, 28, was arrested Friday in his family home in Pennsylvania for the fatal Nov. 13 stabbings of four University of Idaho students.

His public defender Jason A. LaBar released the statement on behalf of his parents and his sister.

“We have fully cooperated with law enforcement agencies in an attempt to seek the truth and promote his presumption of innocence rather than judge unknown facts and make erroneous assumptions,” the family said.

The Kohbergers said they “will continue to let the legal process unfold and as a family we will love and support our son and brother.”
emphasis mine.

I'd like to hear (& we may, eventually) LE say that they're cooperating and not only from the public defender ?
The best advice the Kohbergers' could give BK at this time is to be honest and not lie -- as if he's caught it will go even worse for him.
M00.
With the DP on the table and if DNA evidence is strong he might take life if offered to save himself.

In my state they do it sometimes cuz they want to become judges

I'm trying to catch up, so please forgive me if I'm asking a redundant question...

Will we be seeing the probable cause affidavit? Does the gag order put limits on that?

Thanks.
Once he returns to the state, Mr Kohberger will be served with the Idaho arrest warrant for four counts of first-degree murder and one count of burglary. Once that arrest warrant is returned to the court, the probable cause affidavit will be unsealed. I am not sure how reliable this source is but I did read it elsewhere too. The Independent (UK)

I would concur with that, but only because the public defenders here in my state are lazy and don't put any extra effort into anything.

In regards to high profile cases, oftentimes, I high profile attorney, or other private attorney will take the case Pro Bono for the "advertisement" purposes thru media reporting. Case in point: Jodi Arias

It wouldn't surprise me.

I get where you are coming from, but not sure how it could be any quicker. A commercial flight would likely be Newark to Boise and takes about 8-10 hours (quick search on expedia), but then you have 2+ hours driving from PA to Newark and then 5+hours Boise to Moscow, so that's likely longer.

Flying in and out of the regional airports to avoid the driving requires accounting for the connections, so more wasted time, plus more risk of having to deal with the accused in multiple layovers.

The only possible quicker way would be to have a private jet follow a similar route to today's flight, faster flying and maybe less refueling stops, however, you need to have a private jet available in PA, presumably hiring one on a day's notice is hard, planes need to be flying to make money, not hanging around hoping someone hires them.

So, they used a PA LE plane, which was obviously available and right in PA, and then can control their own stops/layovers.
And could fly out asap after extradition was granted.

Thank you for the well thought-out and civil reply.

I think because he wanted new plates; he would have been worried about the car being caught by a license plate reader or camera, and was willing to bite the bullet and put that vehicle on their radar by being located near to the crime scene.

I’m convinced that’s how they initially found him.
Wait. You lost me here.
He did it because he thought they would be looking for PA plates?
Or he did it because he wanted to be caught?

My family let me know they think the flight with the Kohberger landed in Champaign, IL to refuel. It was on their local news.

When I came home a little while ago, I had to skip the latter half of thread 49 because the new thread 50 was already on page 29, but a majority of the posts I saw were about the plane.

I'm not one to follow the path of the plane. It seems tedious to me.

Since you are interested, @SteveP, would you explain it to me? What is the fascination? Is it just to know where he is, or is it that people hope that the instant Bryan is on Idaho soil, we will hear what's in the PCA?

I'm sincerely asking, because I'm ignorant in this area.
