So we are thinking the killer drive up to the house in a car and parked out front, walked in and killed four people without making much noise, got back in the car and drove away without being noticed by the <modsnip> other two roommates who were sleeping??
Thats how a serial killer works. They do really creepy weird things that couldnt even be imagined by normal society. Israel Keyes interviews really freaked me out. Couldnt listen to it. Everybody in the tornado affected areas, be safe. I'm having a thunderstorm from hell here. I still have power. lol

I went looking for a source as to the time of death being between 3am and 4am. The only source I could find is that it came from the mayor in the beginning stages of the investigation. Does anyone have a link that attributes it to someone more official? Given the blunders he made in the beginning with false and/or assumed info, I am not sure I’m willing to make this a definitive timeframe of death, in my mind at least.

They want video from between 3-6 AM. I haven't found a police release that mentioned 3-4 AM.

"Detectives are seeking all outside surveillance video taken from 3 a.m. to 6 a.m. on Sunday, November 13th, from businesses and residences within the geographical area listed below. Detectives request all available videos – whether there appears to be motion and content or not.
• West Taylor Ave (north boundary)
• West Palouse River Dr (south boundary)
• Highway 95 south to the 2700 block of Highway 95 S (east boundary)
• Arboretum & Botanical Garden (west boundary)"

Something's off with the DM reporting IMO. It can't be "speeding away from the crime scene" and also going west on White Ave, which would be towards the crime scene. Very confusing reporting, and Fox has it as Highway 8.
  • A clerk at an Idaho gas station may have spotted a white sedan speeding away from the scene of the University of Idaho students' off-campus house

  • She said she spent days poring over surveillance footage from the night of November 13 before she spotted a white sedan traveling westbound on White Avenue at around 3.45am the night of the murder before turning down a side street.

None of us know the destination of the driver.

Did he leave his phone at the cemetery?

Adrenaline caused him to find a place to evacuate his bowels?

Shower and change?

Looking at 3 sides of the gas station on Google street view and I’m only seeing one camera on the side of the building facing Hwy 8.

Correction, just found another one facing White Ave.

I believe DM had meant to type hwy 8. White car driving down White Ave ... Suspicious typo. There is no reason to be speeding toward Moscow if you had already passed toward the east. And you would not want to be speeding to your crime scene to commit a murder at 4 AM without time to scout the area. I am sticking with Fox news as correct and DM as a typo
Agree with you ‘on paper’, but I would wonder the frame and state of mind if someone who just killed 4 people with such violence. I would imagine it would be easy to make a wrong turn with all the adrenaline.

Also, @Jaxflats made this good point below which leads me to believe it’s White Ave.
You can tell in the photo the road has 1 lane in each direction and based on the curb/gas station driveway it is clear the camera is looking at White Ave and the car is heading west toward Rt 8.

So, if this is the white Elantra for sure and they did not have this location before what can we expect? My thoughts below.

Enhancement of this video for tag - if one is even on the car
Canvas area further for more video
Change the location request for video/photo evidence
Geofence warrant for this time and place

To the perp - Go ahead and call the tip line or 911 and turn yourself in. You will be caught, it is only a matter of time.

Thanks! That was the only timeframe I officially remembered, the 3am-6am call for video, but so many people mentioned the time of death being from 3am-4am that I wanted to see where it was coming from. Hopefully someone more official than the mayor said it…if not, I will assume that it’s likely there is a longer timeframe in which the murders could have occurred.

Latah Trail looks close enough to catch on Cam.

And that’s a street that runs parallel to Troy there. I could see someone using the terminology side street to apply to a street running beside the other.

Neighbor of victims thought he may have heard a scream at 4 AM. Elantra may have been heading toward the crime scene.

I've been looking for anything to support the idea that one of them wore a fitbit, as that would upload heart rate changes, which could indicate time of death as happening before 4 AM. So far nothing. No fitbit. No witnesses. Maybe it's a wider time of death, but why 6 AM? Is it because they had just eaten pasta and digested some food? Would alcohol slow down the process?

3:45 seems late to be heading toward the crime scene, imo. (I am confused on the so called direction and route the car may have been taking and why it seemingly would head toward the house rather than away from it.)

Someone mentioned maybe the camera time was wrong. Maybe the station didn't reset the time last month when the time changed? If so, it would have been 2:45, correct? And perhaps heading toward the house to commit the crime?

MOO.
Purely MOO but I’m just spit balling here.
Maybe the car was just the get away driver. Perhaps the killer called their accomplice and said things were going badly and needed to be picked up quickly or needed assistance.
That would be the only reason to be speeding towards a crime scene. This would be easily authenticated by cell phone pings and this would support the theory that I’ve seen others members mention. That LE knows who did it but is trying to catch the accomplice. JMO

Assuming for a minute that this image is indeed the perp, I would think that they have accidentally turned down White Ave (or even Troy Rd if it turns out to be that Rd) given the number of businesses and the presence of a petrol station, or they’re not local and don’t really know where they’re going.

Considering all the true crime stories I have listened to my money is on a person who came to the house for one thing. It was going to be sexual assault and possible murder from a stalker who had been eyeing one girl. He entered the house on wrong floor and ran into very drunk boy and girl and didn’t want to be spotted so he got them first. He went to next floor and was surprised at her being in same bed with other girl. They were very drunk and disoriented and he had to viciously and wildly swing at both. He didn’t go to other floor of the two survivors because he had already found the one he was stalking. DNA will lead the police to catch him I think from another attempted crime he will commit or has already committed. We lost a very popular news anchor here years ago and this is exactly what happened. They will catch him in next few weeks I think.

Can you use Google maps, type in Mobile or Exon Moscow, ID and the click on the layers to show a street view which will outline the roads in blue. Then zoom in on the blue line you desire to look at the road from and click on it on the west side intersection of White & Hwy 8 and identify a similar structural view as shown in the news article. Note from a certain vantage point, the image of the car does not show the entire street. I believe the car was traveling east and headed north after passing the gas station on hwy 8.

Is it safe to say we can now narrow the murder time from 3-3:45am....

It's no coincidence LE is looking for a specific small white sedan, and one seen speeding at 3:45 caught on gas station cam are one in the same.

MOO

I think the one at the petrol station is almost certainly a Prius

Did someone know the video would delete after a certain period of time?
I know that. Common knowledge. That’s why so many gas station attendants get killed. Cameras often don’t work and tapes are erased and recorded over every 24 hrs.

I used @wnk awesome timeline.

2 a.m. to 5 a.m. This is when Latah County Coroner Cathy Mabbutt said the homicides occurred. Moscow Mayor Art Bettge previously told the Statesman that police told him they believed the deaths were 3-4 a.m.

Do you think he carried in his phone into the house to commit murder? Or sat outside the house with it for 10-15 minutes scouting?

My point is there may have been incremental steps to him returning home, and be seen entering his residence bloody.
