I think she was genuinely incompetent, but that doesn't necessarily equate to any kind of mental health defense. I think she's had episodes of being completely out of touch with reality in the past, too, but in my opinion none of it has anything to do with her guilt.

It reminds me of the competence determination of "David Mitchell", Elizabeth Smart's kidnapper. He seemed crazy to me. But, he was "crazy" on the continuum of "crazy", but that is separate from his ability to participate in his defense.

Psychologist: Mitchell has personality disorder, but competent

This is also not unlike the determination of competence for the Colorado Movie Shooter, who really seemed "crazy". But he was also found Competent.

Insights from a Psychiatrist Who Interviewed Mass Murderer James Holmes

There are so many criminals who do horrific crimes, how could anyone "normal" do a crime like killing children? But we need to differentiate an Anti Social Personality disorder from mental illness.

INMO, LVD is NOT in anyway "Mentally Ill". She does have a lot of issues though, stemming from her Personality disorders.

INMO. Not diagnosing LVD.

I thought a personality disorder was a kind of mental illness?

No, that is why is the DSM-V, Personality Disorders are separated from other disorders because they are distinct and unique with a separate set of behaviors and thought patterns.

Introduction to Personality Disorders

The definition of "mental illness" is complex. Is a short term period of "Depression", "Mental Illness"? This goes into a rabbit hole, beyond the scope of this discussion.

I think it's going to be a " full-on" Alex bashing, at least that is what I have thought since he died.
They will blame him.
After all, he was her protector

He is not here to defend himself.

They will put all the planning and blame on him. IMO

(and that just stinks because we all know better, we all know that even with Alex being involved, that these 2 devils awaiting trial are the Masterminds and the ones reaping the $$$ from all the insurance policies)***
I think that was the plan all-along pre-murders. Make him the hitman, then he has to sacrifice himself (sorry I don't believe that the blood clot happened naturally, with all these other convenient murders), and throw him under the bus, so they have no accountability.

If he hadn't been a truck driver, I would be more inclined to agree with you about the blood clot. But clots like that are an occupational hazard for truck drivers and others who spend too much time in vehicles. My nephew nearly died from one years ago. With so many deaths over so many years, there's room for one of them to be an accident or coincidence.

I did not know that. Thanks.

There are also nefarious ways to induce clots like injecting air into a person's veins. I'm still suspicious of his wife Zulema.

Yeah, I know there are nefarious ways. And I won't be surprised if it does turn out to be something like that. But it's not my first thought.

If Lori is “sick”, she is sick as in evil, just like other murderers.

If she is “sick” does that mean Alex the hitman was “sick”?

I agree with what Kay and Larry Woodcock said: She’s been playing the system her whole life.

Or suicide. Maybe he realized that LVD and CD went to Hawaii with the cash, and AC was left.

That is why the "conspiracy" charge is the key here. AC couldn't kill Tylee and JJ without LVD being in on it. And AC definitely couldn't bury them in CD's yard without CD's knowledge.

The videos of CD and LVD at the storage unit. Pure evil.

Exactly !!

and I agree...he either sacrificed himself or someone within the circle "helped"

It was NOT a natural death, IMO and I don't care what the ME report says

And Chad being approached by the press and quoted saying- the kids are SAFE-
as they lay burned & buried in his b/yard.

Thanks for some historical examples of the competency issue.. helps clarify.

I'm guessing that she's not going to be thrilled about being arraigned. Being declared Incompetent meant never having to face charges.

/????? And never having to say you're sorry?????

UPDATE: Vine link records show Lori Vallow is back in custody at the Madison County Detention Center. The booking time was 1AM today. She will be arraigned on Tuesday 4/19. A new mugshot has not been released. I’ve reached out to a spokesman.

I was under the impression that, fortunately, most mental illnesses are treatable and manageable. This is, obviously, a very uneducated opinion though.

From the get go, I always thought that she would be eventually deemed competent, that's what usually happens. Everyone, and I mean everyone, deserves to be adequatelly treated, even if they commited horrible, terrible crimes. She has gone through treatment and will probably keep doing what she has been doing so, she is now capable of participating in her own defense.

She was very clearly struggling mentally, but she is also a terrible, awful person. One doesn't cancel the other.
