I don't think Charles had as much money stashed away as one would like to believe. I believe the people in his life spent it as fast as he could make it during his life. The properties they lived in seemed to all be rentals as well, so I don't believe Lori had any real estate to cash in on....Colby's vehicle was reposessed that was in Charles's name because Lori was no longer making payments on it. When Lori stole the $35k from his account last year, he couldn't make payroll. Yes, he had a million dollar life insurance policy, but it does not appear he had a lot of liquid assets per se.
I think we just don't know. I agree people around him are trying to spend it faster than he earns it, but he lives in lux rentals while still paying for LVs house and JJs school and working in finance so hopefully not making totally stupid decisions with his $.

We have a VI who reported here that LE gave him a list of at least 4 vehicles owned by Charles when he died, all 2 or 3 year old cars with sticker prices that scare me.

Colby's car was repossessed, I think, after Charles died and LV drained the bank accounts, No? He didn't make payroll after LV stole $35k because he didn't know LV stole $35k and in the US it takes days to make funds "available" after a bank transfer despite the fact that the transaction and confirmation take a millisecond (don't get me started on that...) so he couldn't move assets around fast enough.

Discussing this case with friends over the last few weeks, every single person I talked to said their 401(k), 403(b), pension, IRA,...whatever the retirement vehicle, it was worth way more than their life insurance. If someone killed me for my life insurance they would get a small fraction of what my wife would get by killing me for my 401(k).

I know this much, Lori likes to spend money, and live well. Hawaii ain't cheap! Staying at the Marriott resort eats money! Jeez, a cup of coffee is $9.00. (Although, as LDS folks, they probably don't drink coffee).

Also to note re: Charles's estate, it is in probate with a DEPENDENT Administration. (Basically meaning it is now micromanaged and everything has to be approved by the courts.)

(per Harris County, TX court case online record search)

Get yourself a will or a trust kids.

BBM It used to be affordable to live in Springville. The prices went up a lot in the last five years, after the Daybells moved. That said, selling in Springville and moving north of Rexburg would have been financially advantageous.

It's all relative which was my point. Living in Springville is cheaper than living in somewhere like Cottonwood Heights or Sandy in the Salt Lake Valley, but more than Rexburg or many other rural and not in high demand areas of Utah and Idaho. And all of the above are cheap compared to Park City. :)

My angels tell me you might be full of it but also maybe not, so I should listen to you because I'm halfway into a bottle of Bombay...

Agreed, especially the part about Park City. I just can’t help but vent/ lament the drastic price changes of the last five years :D

I think they will find there is nowhere they will be able to live peacefully.

I’m thinking maybe a prepper compound deep in Montana or Idaho would work. Though I just read that parts of Idaho are getting a major winter storm, so it might be slightly colder than Kauai.

Nate Eaton - Reporter

Maui?

ON THE MOVE? Multiple sources tell me Chad and Lori Daybell left Kauai today around 2 p.m. Hawaii time. Many passengers and airport workers recognized them and they were apparently headed to Maui. Folks in Kauai are tired of having them on the island - in fact, a photo of this sign hanging near Walmart says "Where are the Children?" I don't know if they had one-way tickets or plan to return. And what happens next is anyone's guess... (by the way - if you see the Daybells or have information about them, send me a message. You can remain anonymous and chat off-the-record if you wish).

Well, I don't think that either one of them is bothered by a guilty conscience. Therefore, society will suffice, and provide that they never live in peace.

Too bad they were not charged with something, and had their passports taken.
