My opinion is that it is next to impossible the two events are not related. The first event may not have had the desired effect so the plan had to have a phase 2.

Did the letter make the news at all before the attack? I've googled it but theres so much about the attack I can't find if there were any reports about it prior to the attack.

OMGOSH This is the first I've seen of this "death threat". Backwards lettering, cut out magazine letters, even has the return address as MAGA. It seems so perfect, for a script 60 years ago. I wonder if the sender(s) licked the envelope closed? Will be easy for LE to match those magazine letters, if only the cops had some magazines to compare it to.

Apparently he never did claim the MAGA hats, but the rest of it is problematic.

A premeditated attack in the middle of the night.

These guys would have had to have known that he would run out at 2AM.

They were equipped with a rope and bleach, which is just weird.

Outnumbered two to one by some very well built men, he escapes with superficial injuries.

He claims they were white, and yelled racial epithets.

Incidentally, he has been politically outspoken, and his account of the attack fits perfectly into a narrative that jibes with his views.

These suspects are black, and they know him.

They leave the country hours later, which is a wild coincidence.

I think that people have every right to be skeptical here.

These shiny gold and silver letters seem to have been cut out from glamour magazines. Vogue, Vanity Fair, Cosmopolitan? Maybe those were fashion-conscious suburban rednecks? I guess they spent so much time cutting out letters because that’s what you have to do when sending threats? But why use handwriting on the envelope and not a typewriter? And who draws a drilling machine to make a threat?

I can't come up for an explanation as to why they would do this on their own.The brothers are built like bricks and could have really done damage to him.It wasn't racially motivated but if it was about him being gay why would they go to the trouble of stalking him in the freezing cold filled with hate but all he's left with is a tiny spot under his eye in a one minute attack?
