“We are looking for examples of cases, felony preferable, where we, in excersing [sic] our discretion, have entered into verbal agreements with defense attorneys to dismiss charges against an offender if certain conditions were met, such as the payment of restitution, completion of community service, completion of class, etc., but the defendant was not placed in a formal diversion program,” the email states.

Jussie Smollett Case: Internal Email Has Cook County State’s Attorney’s Office Scrambling To Find Similar Dropped Cases

We?

If I received this email I wouldn’t look for similar cases, she’d be on her own. She created this mess, let her look.

Haha! Oh she cares, she cares a lot.

Otherwise she (Oops, I mean “we.” She has to pretend there is someone other than herself desperately looking for similar cases.) wouldn’t be searching for cases in which the State Attorney’s office “excersing their discretion” and blatantly let a guilty tv star off scot free because of his connections, under the most shadiest of circumstances.

I love how it is such an anomaly she herself can’t come up with a single case.

Good ol Chris Rock!

Chris Rock Roasts Jussie Smollett at NAACP Awards: ‘What the Hell Was He Thinking?’

Although Chris Rock was told to steer clear of the Jussie Smollett case at the NAACP Image Awards, the comedian couldn’t help but toss a couple barbed jokes towards the “Empire” actor.

“They said no Jussie Smollett jokes. I know. What a waste of white skin. You know what I could do with that light skin? That curly hair? My career would be out of here. F—ing running Hollywood,” Rock joked.

“What the hell was he thinking?” Rock asked. “From now on, you’re Jessie from now on. You don’t even get the ‘U’ no more. That ‘U’ was respect. You don’t get no respect from me.”

"It was so cold outside I saw a polar bear cutting firewood, but at 2am I just had to have a Subway sandwich. I threw on my prada jacket, a noose, and set off searching hither and yon for a sammich. How was I to know my close friends, personal trainers, and fellow actors were going to excersing their discretion, and perpetuate such a brutal attack on myself?"

"I may not carry the scar from that paper cut on my cheek forever, but I will carry other scary noose-y, yell-y stuff, and I honestly don't know if I will ever be able to eat a tuna Subway sandwich at 40 degrees below zero again."

"I am not a drop of my mother's son if I made that up, and I will never, ever, heal from my horrific attack. I will continue to fight for the marginalized people everywhere, like myself (HEY BACK OFF! Don't look me in the eye or brush against me ever again. BODYGUARDS!), till the day I die."

"Press charges? Nah, I just want to move on with my life, sucks for those who they brutalize next, amirite? But I will continue to fight, when it serves my pupose!"

I long for the peacemakers.

Those who genuinely love our country, and all of our people. Those who know how positive uplifting messages are the only way to overcome all of the saturated negativity we now see on a daily basis it seems.

Those that care far more about peace, and love for all of us, and our nation, instead of being determined to divide, and destroy.

Ones who know, divided we will fall, and implode, but united we will always remain strong together.

I'm so tired, and weary of constantly seeing only reeking negativity, and divisiveness.

It seems we have become a country of complainers. How did it get this way?

Someone is constantly sewing the seeds of negativity making sure it continues to grow like the invasive toxic weeds that can destroy even the most beautiful healthy flower garden if left unattended.

Imo we have now become that once beautiful rose garden filled with all beautiful colors, who is now fighting the very destructive weeds that have spread like a deadly disease just trying to survive.

I know it's just only a fantasy of mine, but I do dream of how glorious it would be if everyone, from every city of every race, could join hands, and spill out on the streets, not to protest, not to scream or rage, not to destroy, but come in united peace, and love. How healing that would be.

It may be trite to say, but it is so true. It's only love, and peace, that can ever erode all of the hate.

Its love which is able to heal all wounds, and it replaces all of the damaging negativity with powerful uplifting positivity.

Where are all of our peacemakers? We need these beautiful souls who are peaceful to step forward to help heal our country.

What we do not need is more bitter naysayers who do nothing, and never has one positive word to say about anything, but purposefully damages us as a nation/people even more.

These people do not care about all of us or our country. They use us in order to support their own biased agenda, and often their goals seems to be ones that makes sure we are divided, always pitching one against the other.

What good has come from all of the negativity that has been sown in recent years? IMO. None. What damage has it done? More than can ever be expressed.

We must not let them use us in order to plant their wicked evil seeds to divide us.

Lovely post, thank you. I believe you spoke for a great many of us, I know you did for me. But, I need to ask this 'cause I've given this much thought - what would YOU suggest?

Foxx may have doomed Smollett's career. Hollywood can be very forgiving, but he's given nothing for Hollywood to forgive. Look for instance at Robert Downey Jr who Foxx seemingly unintentionally compared Smollett to as a non-violent offender, which with him he did actual real deferred prosecution - and even had some time locked up - and multiple times admitted his guilt. RDJ was able to be forgiven because he asked for forgiveness and has become a huge success, while Smollett is saying the CPD needs to apologize to him. Foxx should have done things like get him to admit his guilt, be on probation, reimburse the CPD, etc. Smollett didn't even pay the $10K as that bond money was put up by someone in California. I don't know what kind of a career a confessed hoaxer would have, but I've got to think it would be better than someone unapologetic who says LE owes him an apology and sticks taxpayers with the bill.

I noticed that our country began to flounder, being far more steeped in drowning negativity about 6 or 7 years ago, and it's never been able to recover, and has only become compounded since then.

Just my own observations, and nothing more.

RDJ was in jail minimum twice. He logged 6 months in prison in 1996, before getting sent back in 1999. Only after the majority of 1999-2000 stint for the better part of a year, was he released for good behavior based upon the time spent incarcerated in 1996. Kim Foxx doesn't even want to open that line of discussion, IMO, as the judge appears to have actually delivered upon a "Scared Straight" premise for RDJ:

Always nice to 'see' you Trident!

How I wish I knew the answers of how to restore unity, Trident, for if it isnt restored, and soon the damage may not be able to ever be repaired.

But I refuse to believe this grave problem facing our country is not fixable. We must always hope, and pray for our beloved country to be healed for its so deeply damaged now.

Really can any of us remember positive uplifting messages of total unity being said by ALL of our leaders lately when they come together, and do what is right, and just for all of the American people? I can't.

I'm afraid they have set the tone in the past 6 or 7 years or more, and unfortunately for all of us, many of our citizens have decided that pitching one against the other, and dividing us is the wise choice to make.

Its one of the most heartbreaking things I've had to witness, because I have always been a person of peace, and unity even in my personal life.

I believe constant negative thoughts are as deadly as a cancer. Nothing good can ever come from it.

Imo, when anyone lives, and breathes only negative thoughts, night, and day, it's not only mental very unhealthy, it is abnormal to dwell only on the negative. And that is what I see each, and every day now.

Look at how many commenters on social media sites now who seem to seethe, and dwell only on the negative.

We are seeing such mean cruel things being said in the last 10 years or so about victims of violent crimes by those who delight in crushing them in the ground, including their grieving family members by falsely accusing them of such hurtful baseless false accusations 24/7 now.

So it seems for so many now they enjoy being as negative as they can possiblly be.

I don't have any answers as to what this is happening, when we have long been known as those with great compassion, and understanding. All I know is it IS happening at a very rapid pace. Imo

We need the peacemakers like Martin Luther King or Billy Graham who were great mentors who were filled with love, and understanding, who were able to unite millions through their undying faith for the love of God, and all of God's people.

What we do not need is repeated negativity spewed day in, and out, making our beloved nation drowning in the sea of dangerous negativity. Imo

Imo though.

I would have been okay with everything dropped for Smollett, if he had admitted his part in the crime. But basically, he got off scott free, even though this is the 2nd time of lying to LEO. The fact that he didn't have to say anything is what I don't get.

Isn't the point of a Grand Jury decision to determine if there is enough evidence to follow through with a trial? The entire justice system has been treated like it is a null system.
Well, exactly. I don't think people are upset because he didn't get a long prison term, but because he gets to get out there and claim he is innocent honest and truthful about the whole thing.

From the link, it's heartbreaking, and the son makes a great point:

The man who killed Anis Tungekar was taken into custody by police shortly after the attack. Even though the entire murder was caught on video, Foxx's office refused to press charges within 48 hours, and the killer had to be released. Prosecutors gave cops a list of additional information that they wanted before the state would move to prosecute the homicide.

For weeks, as Tungekar tried tirelessly to advocate for his fallen father, Foxx’s office repeatedly refused to press charges against the 30-year-old Chinese national who was seen committing the murder.

As recently as Dec. 20th, Foxx said her office was looking for “context” for the video that plainly showed the younger driver emerge from his Uber, kick Anis Tungekar in the head, and then return to his vehicle. Anis Tungekar fell to the ground, struck his head on the pavement, and remained lying in the street. He died two days later at Northwestern Memorial Hospital.

While Foxx’s office erected hurdle after hurdle in front of police investigators, Anis Tungekar’s killer fled to his native China where he sits safely shielded from extradition.
[...]
In the first nine months of last year, Foxx’s office refused to prosecute 34% of homicide cases that were presented to it by police. That’s the highest percentage of declined murder cases in eight years of publicly-available data. Under Foxx’s predecessor, the prosecutor’s office handled nearly twice as many homicide cases and had a decline rate of just 17% in 2014. The average annual decline rate for homicides since 2011 is 25.6%.
