Sometimes an agenda item for a public entity meeting has an intriguing history, esp -
- when it is the only item,
- poss exec. session is announced,
- agenda is published same day as 9:30 a.m. meeting.
What was so important & pressing that the board was compelled to meet that day at 9:30? If members were actually meeting to discuss and take action on general policy* re records why not wait until next regularly scheduled meeting?
IDK if this Pen Bd matter connects in anyway to current issues re Lt G's pension & benefits. No specific reason to think so, just thinking aloud about special meeting re policy to be held w virtually no notice.

Sounds to me like she has been prepared for them to rule if a suicide and she is getting out ahead of the news cycle.

“There was a lot of anger,” she says of the moment she first heard Rudd suggest that her husband had committed suicide. “The coroner is an elected person. He didn’t perform the autopsy. The one that performed the autopsy came and stood on my deck and told me everything.”
She added: “There were two shots. Somebody that is going to kill themselves is not going to shoot themselves twice.”

I expect an "undetermined" tomorrow.
Should be great for the conspiracy theorists for years to come.
If this was a case of a clearly defined cop killing, they would still be on the hunt for the killers and they would have shown convincing evidence to back it up.
On the other hand, if the scene was trampled and evidence was compromised during the manhunt, they may not have the forensic ability to determine if Gliniewicz was shot up-close by an assailant, or if he shot himself. They may have evidence that actually points at either scenario.
If the scene had been carefully preserved , in lieu of being flooded by 200 angry cops and dogs as well as EMT's, they may have been able to get a much better picture of what transpired there. I have a feeling the area around where he was found amounted to not much more than organized chaos, maybe even disorganized chaos.
I'm not sure what a ruling of undetermined would do in terms of insurance payments and pension benefits, but I'm pretty sure it opens up a ton of gray areas to the point that most, if not all, of those benefits will still pay out.
I've been checking in and out of here for the last couple of weeks, waiting for them to announce the results of all of this testing. Hasn't happened. This is a pretty rare way of conducting an investigation after a cop is gunned down.
I've just tried to stay out of the fray, because I really don't know what to think at this point.
I really hope we get some answers to this mystery tomorrow........but............you know how it's been.

Montez comes off as a Filenko flunky to me. So naturally the wife is going to like what he has to say because he is going to make Filenko look good.
Thank you for bumping my post. I still haven't found that Montez is board certified in pathology. It isn't on his personal pages or health grades. I don't know why Lake County would contract with him unless Rudd doesn't have complete control over those things.
I also thought her saying Rudd was"elected" was very very telling. The politics here is just screaming out.
If Rudd truly believes he doesn't have the evidence for homicide then he needs to say it was accident or suicide. I think undetermined would be political and I would hope someone in this entire mess would stop playing politics for five minutes. If things change they can always change the method of death later. And we know the wife is going to sue for everything anyway if they don't say it is homicide.
I just hope the insurance doesn't cave thinking it is cheaper to pay than fight because it is disrespectful to those who were killed in the line of duty.
Respectfully, Mel, someone staging a homicide would shoot themself twice. JMO

'Not having the evidence' for something does not mean it never happened. There are many murderers walking free for lack of evidence but that does not make them 'innocent.'
IMO this whole sham is disrespectful of those truly killed in the line of duty.
Welcome back! This is true, re: lack of evidence. But then, shouldn't the ruling be undetermined, and let the wife have what is due, minus survivor special benefits until such evidence is produced to make a determination? JMO
