Who knows. Especially with this task force.
It can be difficult to sequence dna because of the 23 chromosomes pairs only one will tell the sex. And women have two x and men have one x. So you will show x 75% of the time. If you have a complete pair you will know if it is male or female but if you have an incomplete pair you will not be able to tell. You can sequence each individual pair to determine if there are two separate xs in the sequence but that is very expensive and laborious.

So I am thinking it likely they had DNA they couldn't sequence easily of which one showed easily male. That is the one they are making a big deal of.

Also these samples were not CODiS applicable which tells me they didn't have the proper amount of markers to be submitted to begin with meaning they were incomplete sequences.

DNA analysis is way above my pay grade, but thanks for explaining. I think I get it! JMO

Lol. My example was really basic. Don't quote me for a paper.
And I would imagine some of those samples were mixed which is when things get more complicated.

JMO I just have to say that I really appreciate EVERYONE's input here, unless it is just putting someone down personally. A lot of thought is going into this, and it is educational to read different perspectives. Just a search for the truth. I like that. JMO

Just pointing out a simple statement revealed by Filenko.
Of the DNA samples that were tested or testable, only one of them points to a male. So, the other samples tested point to one or more females.
What does it serve to complicate the results/statement?
We don't know how many samples (if all nine) are included among Filenko's conclusion.
We know, they tested more than one DNA sample and only one of them belongs to a male. Therefore, at least two samples were tested.
The implication of greater than one sample is inherent in Filenko's statement.

Nothing about degraded DNA or any other complications having to do with testing DNA was mentioned.
What Filenko revealed is LE has one sample of male DNA of interest along with one or more samples of female DNA. The other samples may belong to only one woman, Filenko didn't say.

Why can't the male sample actually be the ONLY one that revealed gender? I don't see how a female was even represented in Filenko's statement. ???? JMO

We were also told Lt. G was wearing his vest. So we can put that one to rest unless we hear otherwise.

Maybe he was standing on his head or doing cartwheels - geesh!

I don't have the direct quote but when someone says "we have nine samples and one is male" that does not automatically mean the other eight are proven to be female.
It just means one is male. It could mean that the other eight or any of the other eight were not able to be determined.

Also we know some of these samples were not eligible for CODIS. There are only two reasons why a sample is not eligible for CODIS. The sample can not be proven to be a result of a crime or they do not contain the required markers because of degradation or they were mixed or incomplete.

"Only one of the recovered samples is male, Filenko said."

SampleS indicates plural, meaning more than one. wth?

LOL. Well, now there is an additional complexity! We know that he was agile. JMO

We know he was wearing his vest when found dead and in all likelihood was wearing it for the fatal shot but We don't know if he was wearing the vest for the first shot.

Trying too hard?

Someone call 911.

Right! But not all samples are pure enough to reveal gender, methinks. I think (hold the tomato toss) that Filenko wants us dopes to think that a bunch of samples were revealing. JMO

About he video with the vest. All vests are different. A vest a patrol officer wears every day for a 9 hour shift is lighter than one that a special opps member would wear for a 1 hour scheduled raid. Vests have a shelf life as well.

Why are we immediately discounting information provided by Filenco himself? I he says it was an incapacitating blow, such as getting struck by a sledge hammer, why does that need to be argued. He has more info on that aspect than anyone here.

Exactly. They are choosing very carefully what they tell us and purposely being evasive and confusing. They are also very defensive about questions which I find to be rude considering they work for us.

No he doesn't have more info than anyone else. Do you think only Filinko has this special knowledge?
I don't believe anything he says because I never accept what a person says without applying my own logic and knowledge to it first.

I know that he has more info, but he is certainly being selective about the info he states publicly. He , in my opinion, does have a dog in this fight. I get that. JMO....That was apparent to me when he chastised Rudd for correcting the leaked statements about where CG was shot. And he did not speak with Rudd for 3 weeks. LOL. JMO

And considering the racial makeup of the town he patrolled.... just saying it doesn't take mental gymnastics to have thought this.

I posted a link a long time ago that included new part-time Lake County Sheriff Department deputies. The point of the picture was to announce the addition of these individuals to department.
Two or three people standing among the eight or nine total were black. It isn't as if there are no black people living in Fox Lake or its surrounds.
Early in the case, a news clip showed LE with a black guy along with a couple of other guys trailing behind, which may have included more LE and/or other people being questioned, walking out of a ranch style house. The guys weren't cuffed and didn't appear to be under arrest.
Other media clips interviewed black people during the time the memorial was growing. To do so, meant that black people were in the area.

You guys sound prejudice to me as far as the cops go.
Sorry, but assuming the worst about them at every turn is not helping anything.
Until we know more, I don't think it is fair to assume wrongdoing or dishonesty on their part when it comes to this case.

Ok, I think I got it, it was Charlie's Angels and they were dressed to kill...

Of course the town has black men between rhe ages of 12-65.
Yes, statistically speaking 0.5% of the town's population made up 33.3% of this trio.
Double that number for out of towners and it still wouldn't be anywhere near 33%.
