WAUKEGAN, Ill — The family of a missing Waukegan teen is pleading for help in finding him.

Lucio Cambray was last seen in around Jackson St in Waukegan on Christmas Day.

His friends had given him a ride around 5:30 p.m., to take his girlfriend home.

Less than an hour later, his girlfriend sent him a message.

Cambray did not respond and no one has heard from him since.

The 18-year-old’s parents are in Mexico, but his sister, members of his church and the family he lives with made a public plea today.

Hold Search for Missing Youngman Lucio Cambray

Waukegan – Families from all over Waukegan and other Lake County suburbs will gather on Sunday afternoon to search for Lucio Cambray who was last seen after dropping off his girlfriend on Christmas day. Lucio Cambray was reported missing by a family he was living with on Christmas day 12/25/17. He was dropped off by a friend at a BP Gas Station near Jackson & Grand Ave in Waukegan IL.

The community led search effort for Lucio Cambray has been organized by Missing Persons Awareness Network, LULAC of Lake County and Our Lady of Suyapa Sanctuary (LUMC).

Gia Hoffman of the Missing Persons Awareness Network located here in Illinois said, “Our mission is Awareness, Knowledge and Prevention. We have created posters and are working with Lucio Cambray’s family to locate their missing son. Our organization also works with law enforcement and we keep a website for Illinois cases at www.campalert.org where we update this site for Illinois and cases across USA where family and loved ones can receive information regarding their missing loved ones case. We will be on the ground Sunday helping lead the search for Lucio!”

Julie Contreras Pastor of Our Lady of Suyapa Sanctuary said, “We are supporting the family and have contact with the Waukegan Police Department, where we are building a bridge with the immigrant Latino community who sometimes fear coming forward with information that can help the police. We are God’s Police we do what needs to be done, whatever it takes to find Lucio and if foul play is involved we will seek JUSTICE.”

Family members feel that Waukegan Police need to apply more pressure on individuals that have been identified from leads they received from the community.

Lucio Cambray’s mother Gudelia Mozqueda said, “Our family prays for answers. My son has been missing since December 25th. We want answers from the Waukegan Police---my son is an American Citizen and we want answers.”

The organizer of the “Bring Lucio Home Search” expect a large number of volunteers Sunday afternoon. They will hold a brief press conference at church and then the search will begin at 12:30pm and run until sun down.

[h=1]Friends and family gather to search for missing teenager Sunday in Waukegan[/h]
A strong push by friends and family members Sunday saw more than 50 men, women, and children hitting the streets with flyers near where an 18-year-old man was last seen on Christmas Day in Waukegan.

They were assisted in the search for Lucio Cambray, of Waukegan, by Waukegan police, and Gia Hoffman of the Missing Persons Awareness Network. The group is a nonprofit that assists families in finding missing persons.
According to Contreras, Cambray has a sister in Waukegan, and he lived with a surrogate family. She said his parents live in Mexico.

Cambray worked as a roofer, but since that worked slowed he had made arrangements to start working for a construction company this week, Contreras said.

Body found in pool behind Waukegan home where fire occurred last month

Friends and family of Lucio Cambray, 18— who has been missing since Christmas — went searching and knocking on doors Sunday. They started at Jackson Street and Grand Avenue and checked ravines and areas near the lakefront. The area where the body was found inside the pool is just over 10 blocks away.

[h=1]Family of missing 18-year-old hope body found isn't his[/h]
Waukegan police investigating a missing person's case found a body in a backyard pool. Police said they are waiting on official autopsy results to learn more about the deceased.
The body found was found less than a mile from where an 18-year-old man went missing on Christmas day.
Lucio Cambray was last seen near a Waukegan gas station at the intersection of Grand and Jackson.
Now friends and family are wondering if a body found in the residential pool in the 1300 block of North Jackson, is Cambray’s body.

“Investigators were following up on the missing person and during the course of their investigation it did lead them to that area and that was how the discovery was found,” said Waukegan Commander Joe Florip.
“We are not going to make any assumptions about the body at this point the coroner’s office is going to do a full autopsy and once they do that we should have more answers,” said Commander Florip.

Contreras said she and the missing man's family members were called into the police department Monday to be made aware of the body found.
Autopsy results could take anywhere from 24-48 hours.

Lucio Cambray was last seen on Christmas Day. He got out of his friend's car at a service station on Jackson Street and said he had to go somewhere, but didn't say where, Contreras said. When he never returned that night, the family got worried and filed a missing person report with Waukegan police.

Ugh! I don't like these cases where the mp just gets out of the car somewhere and disappear. Just doesn't sound logically correct, if that makes sense.
Off to read more.

Huh. The pool is described simply as a "backyard pool," so I'm thinking that it's likely an above-ground pool. If was winterized, it might still have a fair amount of water in it as well as ice. I doubt he got in there of his own accord.

Friends and family of Cambray held a prayer vigil Monday night. They spent Sunday looking for him and are praying the body police found frozen in a pool in the 1300 block of North Jackson Street is not their loved one.

Police stumbled on the body Monday around 12 a.m.. The Lake County Coroner said the body was found in a pool that had been drained for the season.

The pool where the body was found is behind a home that caught fire in early December. In that case, an 18-year-old girl was living illegally in a basement apartment and couldn’t get out. Firefighters rescued her but she died later at the hospital.

The home has a red tag on the door and hasn’t been occupied since according to neighbors.

The pool behind it is just ten blocks from where Cambray was last seen.

WAUKEGAN, IL — Police confirmed Monday they found a body in a Waukegan swimming pool at the same house where a deadly fire took place in December, reports indicate. It's unclear if the body is related to the fire, which killed an 18-year-old woman in the basement of the home in the 1300 block of North Jackson, NBC Chicago reported.

Police believe the body may be that of Lucio Cambray, 18, of Waukegan, who went missing on Christmas Day and had a relationship with the woman who died in the fire, the family told NBC Chicago.
The body has still not been identified partly because of the frozen condition in which it was found overnight. The coroner is allowing 24 to 48 hours for the body to thaw before performing an autopsy, NBC Chicago reported.

There's a screenshot with a photo of the pool and a video report at this link: http://chicago.cbslocal.com/2018/01/08/body-found-in-waukegan-pool/

It's not very clear how deep the pool is and it wasn't winterized. It doesn't seem like it would be too deep for an 18-year-old to be unable to climb out, and he likely would have had his phone. He must have been injured or maybe OD'd. His girlfriend having died at the house gives him a reason to be there, but I don't understand why he'd voluntarily hang out in an empty pool in freezing weather.

Oh no [emoji20] I’m guessing he may have OD’d (suicide) there because of the connection with his girlfriend dying on that same property. How terribly sad.

IMO

so the girl who died in the house fire was Lucio's girlfriend? In the initial post about him going missing, he currently had a girlfriend whom texted him an hour after being dropped off, with no response .. so sad Lucio is gone :(

Nowhere has it been reported that the girl that died in the fire was his girlfriend.

I am thinking foul play in Lucio's case. When he said he had to go somewhere, it probably was to meet up with someone and something went wrong.

Sorry, saw that in post #15. I should have checked MSM.
