Biden senior Middle East advicer to visit Israel on Tuesday

Brett McGurk, Biden’s senior Middle East adviser, will visit Israel on Tuesday and meet Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, with further visits planned in Brussels, Saudi Arabia, Jordan and Qatar, a US official told Reuters.

Qatar’s government earlier said Al Thani had stressed the need for an immediate ceasefire in Gaza and the permanent opening of the Rafah crossing into Egypt in the call with Biden.

Washington has rejected calls from Arab leaders and others for it to insist that Israel halt its assault on the Hamas-controlled Gaza strip.

Al-Shifa doctor says 'not a single militant' inside hospital

There is not a "single militant" inside Al-Shifa, the hospital's head of surgery has told the BBC.

Israel has previously accused Hamas of operating an underground command centre beneath the site of Gaza's largest hospital, which Hamas denies.

Asked whether Hamas was operating inside Al-Shifa, Dr Marwan Abu Saada calls the allegation a "big lie".

This is an open invitation to the international community and even to the Israelis. They are in close proximity to Shifa hospital. Why not enter Shifa hospital and see?
We are civilians. I am a doctor-surgeon. We have medical staff, we have patients, and displaced people. Nothing else."
In recent days the area around Al-Shifa in northern Gaza has experienced heavy fighting, with Israel being accused of attacking the hospital directly.

The Israeli military says it is operating in the area of the hospital, but denies attacking the facility.

IDF opens more evacuation routes in Gaza Strip, particularly for Al-Shifa hospital
From the article:

The Israel Defense Forces says it had also protected civilians in Gaza that were found in the Al-Shati refugee camp, evacuating them while under fire

[...]

The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) announced on Sunday that it would allow passage from several hospitals in the northern Gaza Strip, so the population could move southward for protection.

... the IDF said in a statement that the new passage would be open for Al-Shifa, Ranteesi, and Nasser.

“In recent days, a senior officer in Israel’s Coordination and Liaison Administration to Gaza spoke with the manager of the Shifa Hospital multiple times and presented him with possible passages from the hospital,” the IDF said in the statement.

[...]

The IDF announced earlier on Sunday that heavy fighting broke out in the Al-Shati refugee camp, and a civilian population was identified inside a building, as such the soldiers established a safe evacuation route for the civilians, but came under fire by terrorist cells.

Do you think many hostages will survive the Israeli strikes?
I'm not sure if or how many hostages are alive, sadly.

They are allowing infants to die, rather than evacuate to keep a human shield. I can see the fury of demands for fuel not being met, having an impact on hostages.

Israel's president denies it is striking Gaza's Al-Shifa hospital

Reports from staff at Al-Shifa suggest the facility, sheltering thousands of Palestinians, has run out of electricity.
But Mr Herzog said "everything is operating" at the hospital.

WHO chief Dr Tedros Ghebreyesus later said that contact has been restored but warned of "dire" conditions inside. He repeated calls for a ceasefire and said the hospital has been without electricity and water for three days.

Doctors and the Hamas-run health ministry in Gaza have said a lack of fuel there means patients cannot be operated on and incubators for premature babies cannot run. But the president disputed this.

"We deny this at all, there is a lot of spin by Hamas... but there's electricity in Shifa, everything is operating," Mr Herzog said.
Israel has said that Hamas has a base underneath the hospital building - a claim denied by Hamas.

"We of course listen to our allies, but first and foremost, we defend ourselves," he said.

He acknowledged that there had been civilian deaths in Gaza but blamed Hamas for many of the tragedies.

Mr Herzog said his country's operations in Gaza were carried out "according to the rules of international humanitarian law", with Israel alerting civilians with phone calls and text messages, and urging them to evacuate from northern Gaza and "go down [to southern Gaza]".

It's already on. We've sent warships, aircraft, missiles, and more.
More will come IMO..regional war and hopefully it stays there. But there will still be American casualties if escalation continues. We have thousands of troops in the mid east.

Operating rooms are completely out of service at Gaza's largest hospital, director says

From CNN’s Hamdi Alkhshali in Atlanta and Jo Shelley in Tel Aviv

None of the operating rooms at Al-Shifa Hospital in Gaza are functioning due to lack of electricity, the medical center's director told Al-Araby TV on Sunday.
"The operating rooms are completely out of service, and now the wounded come to us and we cannot give them anything other than first aid,” Dr. Muhammad Abu Salmiya said.

“Whoever needs surgery dies, and we cannot do anything for him.”

The hospital director said staff were trying to keep premature babies at the hospital alive after oxygen ran out and they had to be moved from the neonatal unit’s incubators.

“I was with them a while ago. They are now exposed, because we have taken them out of the incubators. We wrap them in foil and put hot water next to them so that we can warm them,” Abu Salmiya said.

The doctor said several children have died while in the intensive care unit and the nursery over the last day.

More background: Heavy fighting near Gaza’s largest hospital has left it in a “catastrophic situation,” with patients and staff trapped inside, ambulances unable to collect the wounded and life-support systems without electricity, health officials and aid agencies report.

The World Health Organization says Al-Shifa has been without power for three days.
“It's been three days without electricity, without water and with very poor internet, which has severely impacted our ability to provide essential care,” WHO Director-General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus wrote on the social media platform X.

“Regrettably, the hospital is not functioning as a hospital anymore,” he said.

Dispute over fuel offer: The Israeli military said it put 300 liters of fuel at the entrance to the Al-Shifa Hospital complex on Sunday, but that Hamas had blocked the hospital from receiving it.

Abu Salmiya, the hospital director, told Al-Araby TV that Israeli officials had indeed called him to offer the fuel — which he said would provide power to run the generators for only thirty minutes — but that staff had been too scared to go get it.

The Israel Defense Forces released a video it said showed soldiers delivering the jerry cans to a curbsidelocation near the hospital entrance. It also released an audio recording, purportedly of a hospital official accusing a Hamas leader at the health ministry of refusing to allow it to be collected.

Abu Salmiya said it was the presence of Israeli tanks that prevented collection.
“Of course, my paramedic team was completely afraid to go out,” he said, adding, “We want every drop of fuel, but I told (the IDF) that it should be sent through the International Red Cross or through any international institution.”

Hamas dismissed the allegations and said the Israeli fuel delivery was a propaganda stunt.

Taken captive: Ohad & Raz Ben-Ami, recited prayer upon capture

Kidnapped from Kibbutz Be’eri on October 7, Raz Ben-Ami has a significant illness and can’t survive for long without medication

Ohad and Raz Ben-Ami, 57 and 55, were taken captive by Hamas from their home in Kibbutz Be’eri on October 7, as the terrorist group slaughtered, committed atrocities and kidnapped residents.

One of their three daughters, Ela, was also on Be’eri and survived.

She had been in touch with her father on Whatsapp that morning, until the moment when he was kidnapped, around 10 a.m.

Ohad’s last Whatsapp said, “Shma Yisrael, they’re here,” citing the foundational Jewish prayer.

He then gave her instructions about his will.

It would be foolish of them to murder their bargaining chips until they have no hope of surviving the assault. But I doubt all the hostages are held in the same place, and I would imagine young ones would be farmed out to people in various apartments or houses so they could have been bombed. Just a guess.

I'm thankful there is some doctor care still available and I have no way of knowing that they are privy to what Hamas is up to. Blessing to these doctors that put their life on the line to help others.
Bbm.
That is true.

No one does, not even the IDF who have provided humanitarian pauses, probably at risk to themselves as it gives Hamas time to relocate their weaponry, and their killers.

But just think .. doctors don't get to their level of career and expertise -- unless they're fairly intelligent and aware of their surroundings and what's going on at their professional level, especially at their place of occupation, which in this case is the hospital.
Not to mention doctors would 'rub shoulders', so to speak, with some of the authority figures within the city.
Which in this case is the rulers they themselves elected, aka Hamas.
This Dr. Saada (Idk his age) may be a mouthpiece for Hamas.
Or not ?
That 'press conference' after Hamas' missile hit the parking lot seemed staged as anything.
Idk.

Think how risky it would be to have someone who may be parroting Hamas' statements, to be treating you or your loved one !

He can always walk out the door and surrender the hospital to IDF. IDF will save the patients.

What a total disregard for life to not transport the NICU babies. He's risking everyone's life for his five minutes of fame.
Oh he's definitely Hamas.

Emphasis mine.

Well, Dr. Marwan Abu Saada, what say you ?

It's not a good look to not save these babies.
And if Hamas fires at the IDF if they try to evacuate patients, is it b/c someone inside the hospital alerted them ?
Omo.

Rep. John James

@RepJames

I traveled to Israel over the weekend with a Congressional Delegation for a briefing on the war from Ambassador Lew, Defense Minister Gallant and Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. We also met with some of the families of the 240 hostages held by Hamas… (1/2)

We will turn our heartbreak & anger into action. America must help get these hostages home safely, & support Israel in its right to defend itself. I am as proud to stand with Israel as I was proud to stand in Israel for the first time in my life!Am Yisrael Chai! (2/2)

Do you think many hostages will survive the Israeli strikes?
I don't think any of them at all will survive unless Israel takes action. If HAMAS wanted to release them, they would. If they wanted to share an update on their condition they would have done it. If Israel doesn't keep pushing on, then I don't think they will get a single hostage back alive.

I'd be surprised if the good doctor had time to take a break with all the carnage he is dealing with, not to forget the skimpy supplies. But, whatever you want to believe is your choice. I just know that hospital is in chaos

More than 800 foreign nationals passed through the Rafah crossing into Egypt on Sunday, an Egyptian border official told a journalist working for CNN, marking the largest number that has passed through the crossing in a single day since evacuations from the enclave began.

It is the first evacuation of foreign nationals since Thursday, when more than 300 left Gaza through the crossing, according to a border official.
