UN human rights chief says access to Gaza is needed to investigate claims on Al-Shifa Hospital

From CNN's Becky Anderson and Jennifer Deaton

The United Nations human rights chief has called on Israel to grant his team access to Gaza to investigate competing claims about the Al-Shifa Hospital.

“We need to look into this by having access. We cannot rely on one or the other party when it comes to this," Volker Türk, the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights, told CNN’s Beck Anderson when asked about allegations by the Israeli military that Hamas was hiding weapons at the hospital.
He said the situation needs an "independent international investigation, because we have different narratives," Türk said.

Pressure on Israel: Israel is under growing international pressure to uncover proof of what it has described as a Hamas command and control center under the Al-Shifa Hospital, as Israeli forces launched a raid at the facility early Wednesday. The Hamas-run government media office denied it was using the hospital as a command and control center — calling the Israeli claims "baseless lies."

Türk said hospitals had special protection at all times under humanitarian law.

“You cannot use civilian, especially hospitals, for any military purposes. But you also cannot attack a hospital in the absence of clear evidence," Türk said.

Request for access to Gaza and the West Bank:
Türk said investigators could not go to Gaza "while the bombs are falling or while military operations are taking place,” and so his team was monitoring the situation from afar for now. He said he previously asked the Israeli government for access to Gaza and the occupied West Bank but was “still waiting for the answer.”

The actions of both Israel and Hamas since the militant group’s massacre of an estimated 1,200 people on October 7 must be investigated, Türk said.

David Muir says she was found at a house adjacent to the hospital. But, often they don't get facts verified and I hear different things. I don't think anyone has said she was found at the hospital. Some have said she was found near the hospital

Maybe the house was an entrance/exit to the tunnels below the hospital. Moo

<modsnip - quoted post was removed>

My personal opinion- I think most American and European protestors are misguided, don’t know enough about the conflict, and don’t think they are supporting terrorism. I do think (my opinion only) that a neighbor hanging a Palestinian flag probably is just someone who cares about civilians being killed and is not someone to fear.

<modsnip - reference to quoted post>

The other thing that troubles me is the question of the two state solution. I saw Nora O’Donnell grilling Netanyahu on the two state solution, but it doesn’t sound to me like Palestinians even want one. “From the river to the sea” does indeed seem to mean wiping Israel off the map, according to this poll.

Israel contends that it takes steps to limit civilian casualties and targets only militant positions, though that claim is difficult to square against a catalogue of Israeli strikes on crowded civilian neighborhoods, hospitals and U.N. facilities. “Although Israeli officials insist that each strike is subject to legal approval, experts say the rules of engagement, which are classified, appear to include a higher threshold for civilian casualties than in previous rounds of fighting,” my colleagues reported.

Even White House officials acknowledge that there’s a looseness in Israel’s approach. “We have seen some indications that there are there are efforts being applied in certain scenarios to try to minimize, but I don’t want to overstate that,” National Security Council spokesman John Kirby told reporters Monday.

Lo siento Amigo,

Fingers crossed.
Family is sacred :D

It's already been established that hostages were kept in the tunnels. So, very likely there was a tunnel entrance at the house.
I kinda doubt she was kept in the hospital, if she was found in the house. If you've seen videos of Shifa, she would have stood out. Likely she was moved around..MOO

People flee as stun grenades, shots ring out in Jenin

In the last few hours we've been hearing of reports of an Israeli raid in the West Bank city of Jenin.

Footage filed by news agencies shows people running as stun grenades and shots ring out, as well as an Israeli tank on the streets of the city.

According to page 5 of the polling tables, around 60% of respondents are in the West Bank. So not only Gazans.

Just edited my original post to clarify. Sorry for the confusion!
West Bank
And everything is clear.

Ask settlers for explanation.
Or those who live in Hebron with welded doors in their houses.

I have video overload. But IIRC the day General Hagari was in Rantisi Hospital, there was a tunnel from the hospital to the home of a Hamas bigwig. So, it would not be far fetched that there are tunnels from Al Shifa to homes.

IRAN SAYS IT WON’T LET ISRAEL DEFEAT HAMAS, BUT STOPS SHORT OF PROMISING TO ENTER THE CONFLICT

BEIRUT – Iran will not allow Israel to defeat Hamas in the Gaza Strip, the head of Iran’s expeditionary Quds Force wrote in a message to the commander of the Hamas military wing.

However, Gen. Esmail Ghaani stopped short of saying that Tehran will join the battle in order to rescue Hamas.

In six weeks of war, Israel has largely taken control of the northern Gaza Strip, seen as the Hamas power base, while pushing most of the civilian population to the southern part. Israel has vowed to keep fighting until Hamas is crushed.

The war was triggered by Hamas’ deadly Oct. 7 attack on southern Israel.

Ghaani’s letter was addressed to Mohammed Deif, the shadowy leader of the Hamas military wing in Gaza and was published by Iran’s state news agency IRNA.

Ghaani said Iran, the main Hamas sponsor, and its allies “will carry out all our duties in this historic battle” and will not allow Israel to “reach its dirty goals” of defeating Hamas.

Ghaani was referring to Iran-backed groups in the region, including Lebanon’s Hezbollah and Yemen’s Houthi rebels who have attacked Israel with drones and missiles over the past weeks. He was also referring to Iraq’s militants who have claimed responsibility for dozens of attacks against bases housing U.S. troops in Iraq and Syria.

Ghaani praised the Oct. 7, attack, saying it showed Israel was “weaker than a spider’s web.” He added that Israel retaliated with an “unprecedented brutal war crimes” against civilians.

BBM. There is no way to "crush" Hamas because they look just like everybody else. The PM knows it, so he's decided to crush every human being who lives there.

I hope the world diplomats are working together to make sure the Israeli politicians are the ones "crushed" i.e., removed from office. Religious extremists don't belong in government. I also hope the Israeli citizens including hostage families succeed in their protest march this week.

These are some results from a recent poll of Palestinians from Gaza and the West Bank -

“This is the first poll I’ve seen of Palestinians (Gaza & WB) since 10/7. 75% support the 10/7 massacre. 76% have a positive view of Hamas.98.2% have a negative view of America Interestingly, 64% have a negative view of Iran.”

“Also worth noting when given a choice between a shared state where both people co-exist, two states, or a Palestinian state from the river to the sea, 77.7% choose the last option.”

Source document:

Edited to clarify the location of the poll respondents.
For the people in the back who didn't hear, the third option means the "removal" of Jewish life.

Yep, that's over 75% of the population who allegedly feel that way. Frankly, I think these numbers are a bit off, but that's just me...

But did the hospital acknowledge receiving it? They denied receiving the incubators, medical supplies, etc. that IDF claimed to have brought.
I believe those babies are still right there.

That may be, but my point was whether the hospital acknowledged receiving the items or not. IDF is saying "we brought stuff", and al-Shifa is saying," no they didn't". Which is it?

IDF recovers body of Cpl. Noa Marciano from Gaza, days after announcing her death

The IDF says it has recovered the body of Cpl. Noa Marciano from the Gaza Strip, three days after announcing she had been killed in Hamas captivity.

Marciano’s body was recovered from a building near Shifa Hospital, as troops there continue to search for terror infrastructure.

Marciano, 19, of the Combat Intelligence Collection Corps 414th unit, was serving at the Nahal Oz IDF base when it was overrun by terrorists during their murderous onslaught on southern Israel on October 7. She lived in Modiin and was the oldest of three siblings.

Reports of clashes and Israeli forces in hospital in West Bank city

As we've reported, there've been accounts of fighting and troop activity coming out of Jenin in the occupied West Bank.

AFP news agency says a large deployment of Israeli troops raided the refugee camp in the city. Meanwhile Reuters says three Palestinians were killed in an Israeli drone strike, citing the head of the Palestinian ambulance service.

Several Palestinian news sources say Israeli soldiers have entered the city's Ibn Sina hospital, halting ambulances and forcing medical workers to leave.

Video is being shared which appears to show workers in red bib uniforms filing out with their hands up. The BBC cannot immediately verify the video.

The same outlets also report that the Palestinian Red Crescent says their workers at the medical site have also been detained.

Jenin has been repeatedly raided by Israel since the latest conflict began. Last week, 14 Palestinians were killed in an Israeli raid - one of the deadliest recent incidents of its kind in Jenin.

Prominent Israeli officials have called not simply for the defeat of Hamas but for the annihilation of Gaza, the starving of its population, and the removal of Palestinians from some or all of its territory. The Israeli president suggested that civilians in the Hamas-controlled territory are not “innocent.”

Such rhetoric has alarmed myriad international experts, many of whom contend that Israel is already potentially guilty of war crimes in its collective punishment of the Palestinians living in Gaza and the bombing of civilian homes. “We remain convinced that the Palestinian people are at grave risk of genocide,” a group of current U.N. special rapporteurs on human rights wrote in a statement last week that called for a cease-fire. “The time for action is now. Israel’s allies also bear responsibility and must act now to prevent its disastrous course of action.”

Apparently, 75% of the Gaza population was in favour of the October 7th massacre.

If so, Israel has every right to retaliate in order to root out the munitions and the terrorist headquarters.

75% of the population is onboard with Hamas. So they are part of the problem as well. JMO
