"Fabric of society is starting to break down" in Gaza, UN agency says

The "fabric of society" in Gaza is starting to break down, an official from the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA) told CNN — — echoing warnings Sunday of a breakdown in civil order.

Thomas White, director of Affairs for Gaza for UNRWA, spoke about how people were looting logistic and aid warehouses in Gaza.

White said he was concerned for the people of Gaza but also for the UNRWA's ability to maintain operations there. He called for a humanitarian ceasefire, citing the urgent need “get the assistance that people need and stabilize society in Gaza."

Maybe Palestinians will start fighting against Hamas.

Let us hope the “beast” is not like the mythical hydra— cut off one head and two more shall grow in its’ place.

We’re not talking about rational minds here. My opinion only.
I was actually referring to Palestinians thinking of Israel as the beast to be defeated, but, yes, Hamas is definitely the hydra.

From Medusa. Dagestanians in Makhachkala airport throw stones at police.
This is how revolutions start in Russia, btw. With angry crowds and a critical mass of people knowing how to use guns which happens after wars. The reason is unimportant. (And - it is the last thing needed now, so I hope this riot will be clashed).

And the reason the crowd stormed the airport is because they heard a plane from Tel Aviv had just landed. So the crowd stormed the tarmac and began surrounding the deplaning passengers---demanding their passports. There are videos of the crowds doing so.

Netanyahu invokes 'Amalek' narrative during speech about expanding ground operation in Gaza

[...]

“You must remember what Amalek has done to you, says our Holy Bible," Netanyahu said during the speech, based on a translation. "And we do remember and we are fighting. Our brave troops and combatants who are now in Gaza or around Gaza, and in all other regions in Israel, are joining this chain of Jewish heroes, a chain that has started 3,000 years ago from Joshua ben Nun, until the heroes of 1948, the Six-Day War, the '73 October War and all other wars in this country."

Amalek is an ancient biblical nation that was situated in Canaan, which was a land in the southern Levant. The Amalekites attacked the Jewish people after the exodus from Egypt, and "they are seen as the archetypal enemy of the Jews," according to Chabad.org.

The Israeli Information Center for Human Rights in the Occupied Territories, as well as a handful of human rights and civil society NGOs in Israel, are calling for the end to the “state-backed wave of settler violence”.

The statement said:

We, the undersigned human rights and civil society NGOs in Israel, call on the international community to act urgently to stop the state-backed wave of settler violence which has led, and is leading to, the forcible transfer of Palestinian communities in the West Bank.

For the past three weeks, since Hamas’s atrocities of October 7th, settlers have been exploiting the lack of public attention to the West Bank, as well as the general atmosphere of rage against Palestinians, to escalate their campaign of violent attacks in an attempt to forcibly transfer Palestinian communities.

During this period, no fewer than thirteen herding communities have been displaced. Many more are in danger of being forced to flee in the coming days if immediate action is not taken …

Unfortunately, the Israeli government is supportive of these attacks and does nothing to stop this violence. On the contrary: government ministers and other officials are backing the violence and in many cases the military is present or even participates in the violence, including in incidents where settlers have killed Palestinians.

Moreover, since the war has begun there has been a growing number of incidents in which violent settlers have been documented attacking nearby Palestinian communities while wearing military uniform and using government-issued weapons.

Dagestan airport ‘freed’ from mob, closed till Nov. 6 — Russian aviation body

[...]

“The airport in Makhachkala will be closed to receive aircraft… until, preliminarily, 02:59 Moscow time on November 6, 2023,” the agency says.

The head of Russia’s Dagestan republic denounces the mob, vowing punishment.

“All Dagestanis empathize with the suffering of victims by the actions of unrighteous people and politicians and pray for peace in Palestine. But what happened at our airport is outrageous and should receive the appropriate assessment from law enforcement,” Sergei Melikov, the republic’s governor, says on Telegram. “This will be done.”

The mob apparently left the airport and is now mobbing in the streets:

The settlers are like "the 5th column" endangering their country.
And making "black PR" for Israel in the world IMO.

Whose interest have they in mind?
Who really benefits from this?
What is their aim?

Not peaceful coexistence - that is for sure.

The lynch mob which stormed the airport in Dagestan, Russia to search for Jewish passengers have now stopped a bus full of kids in front of the airportThey suspect that the children are Israeli and demand to check everyone's passports

Well, USSR actively supported Yassir Arafat, he was always on Soviet TVs. So when HAMAS took the reigns from PLO, it was a natural step for Russia. “The enemy of my enemy is my friend”. Only in the meantime, Israel stopped being Russia’s enemy, which is natural as 1) Putin himself, his other qualities aside, is not anti-Semitic; 2) he and Netanyahu are both authoritarian and I can imagine them seeing eye to eye; 3) mostly, 1/4 of Israeli immigrants are from former USSR. It means a lot.
4) This being said, all old connections are with the Middle East.

It puts Russia in a precarious position. I would not be surprised the tasks are divided, if one group there meets and talks with HAMAS leaders, and another, communicates with Israel. Basically, the situation is 1) advantageous as it distracts from Ukraine; 2) disadvantageous as Israel is not Russia’s enemy; 3) would be advantageous if Russia could sell anyone arms but it needs them now itself; 4) very disadvantageous as any instability in Islamic world reverberates everywhere else.

So, I have no crystal ball but I won’t be surprised if Russia quietly phased out of that situation. In this regard, Dagestan is a good pretext to deal with “interior issues”.

Israel-Hamas war live updates: Thousands break into Gaza aid warehouse (nbcnews.com)

Gaza receives largest aid shipment since the war began

The Associated Press

Nearly three dozen trucks entered Gaza on Sunday in the largest aid convoy since the war between Israel and Hamas began, but humanitarian workers said the assistance still fell desperately short of needs after thousands of people broke into warehouses to take flour and basic hygiene products.

Israel has allowed only a trickle of aid to enter. On Sunday, 33 trucks of aid entered the only border crossing from Egypt, a spokesperson at the Rafah crossing, Wael Abo Omar, told The Associated Press.

I have read in multiple places that typically there would be around 400 supply trucks DAILY entering Gaza. Link
Which accentuates the trickle they are now speaking of. And gives a level of understanding how dire the situation is, and why people are stealing supplies from the distribution centres in Gaza as food desperation sets in.

I still want to know why they're having to steal it, in the first place...

I don’t know… on the one hand, what HAMAS did in kibitzes was horrible and the sooner Israel takes over, the better.

As a person born in the USSR where there were 3 waves of hunger (1920-21 - claiming 5 million lives; 1931-32 Ukrainian claiming, per my guesstimates, 7 million, 1945-46 claiming 0.5 million) I can’t process people dying of starvation. This is where something needs to be done.

Maybe evacuate at least all Israeli and Palestinian kids for the time being? Let the adults sort out their issues? I am sure many would agree to help.

My guess is that they are so desperate that they cannot wait for the distribution ... which will be carried out in an orderly manner, with a certain arrangement of who gets the supplies (perhaps first the children, then elderly, then women, then men - or maybe families before singles). Meaning some/many will go without the limited supplies.

I remember seeing photos of people clamouring for food in the Uganda food drops (many years ago). They could wait for hours for their small portion of the food. The lines of needy people were so long.

Maybe Palestinians will start fighting against Hamas.
That would be ideal. They have to want it for themselves if they ever will get out from under HAMAS.
