They are claiming it was an Isis flag. Local news stated he apparently posted on social media moments before the attack that he was "inspired by isis" but I don't know if there's any truth in that.

FBI confirms ISIS flag was on vehicle in New Orleans truck attack

FBI confirms ISIS flag was on vehicle in New Orleans truck attack

Interesting @Elley Mae ….. and raises a next question IMO in the investigation of this horrid act - when did the now dead suspect place that flag? And who if anyone was aware of that? Did it happen just moments before? Maybe further investigation is warranted into this? MOO

I highly doubt radicalization was happening in the mosque. Mosques are usually places where the community/sense of belonging is able to prevent radicalization. Radicalization most often happens online. The person will start to isolate from friends and family. They may stop going to mosque at all. The process of radicalization is similar across ideologies and creeds. Find an individual who is vulnerable to indoctrination, whether that is a teenager with a bad family life, grievances, and mental health issues or a middle age former army vet with a history of failed marriages, grievances and mental health issues--exploit their weaknesses, provide explanations for their pain, and give them a sense of purpose. In the US we see it happening with radical Islam, white supremacy, incel ideologies, accelerationists, far right and far left, religious and non-religious. MOO
Yep! I agree.

It remains to be seen if he just watched videos or if he even had any interactions with ISIS.

“I saw the truck parked outside the house earlier [Tuesday],” Shay said.

“Never saw the flag,” she said of the ISIS pennant that was flying from the back of the Ford F-150 Lightning when Jabbar carried out the heinous rampage. “There was none of that. I just recognized the Texas plate and the type of car.”

"I heard parents screaming and crying this afternoon. It just broke my heart," Cathy Tenedorio said, describing the agony of waiting to learn their son's fate.

Very compassionate of her to feel for the other parents ... while waiting and fearing for their own son. :(

Some nice photos of the victims at the link.

Rest in eternal peace :

Kareem
Tiger
Cheyenne
Hubert
Reggie
Nicole
Matthew

And the as-yet unnamed victims.

My utmost condolences for the loss of those precious lives !

Some more pics at the DM link :

They all had so much life left to live.

Any mention of the suspect’s rented truck crossing the border at Eagle Pass on Nov. 16th? The truck’s Texas license plate was recorded by a reader at the Eagle Pass border crossing. It was unclear yesterday if the suspect was the driver.
The driver who initially crossed the border does not appear to be the shooter, and the truck changed hands during the investigation. Law enforcement continues to investigate the circumstances surrounding the incident

Michael Murphy, a local ND fan, went out to dinner on Bourbon St. just hours before tragedy struck. The restaurant was located 50ft away from where the attack took place. He woke up devastated. He spoke to our team about his frightening experience.

#NOW: a brass band is making its way down Bourbon St. ahead of the reopening, speaking to the unwavering resilience of the city.

oh i missed this completely....... So you are saying it was someone totally different who rented that vehicle........
That’s what was being said as far as the November 16th crossing yesterday but now I found some interesting things… that may change things IMO. Things are moving quickly.

This article is interesting though. It’s from 16h ago when the FBI was mentioning accomplices placing IEDs. And it says ‘both’ vehicles crossed the border. Not sure what they mean there Bourbon Street attack leaves 15 dead, investigators on the hunt for suspects

And this one:

“Surveillance footage identified a second vehicle, registered to the same owner as the Ford-F150, that ran into the crowd Wednesday morning and was observed following the suspect's pickup truck. Footage captured three men and one woman placing the first device at Orleans and Bourbon streets and then tracked them to the additional locations...Both vehicles involved have a history of multiple border crossings into Mexico at the Eagle Pass and Brownsville points of entry, according to the source.”

Why are the FBI now saying the three men and one woman are not involved? Are they wrong that both vehicles crossed the border in the same area? Total coincidence?

Never mind all the focus on how security failed, we need to be very concerned how we can have people with such views in our military and they go undetected.

Both of these guys (NOLA and Vegas) were home-grown military. The alleged Vegas bomber was in our special forces. I find it terrifying to consider that there may be a large number of these individuals around.

Wasn't Jabbar has out of the military for 10 years? That's a long time. I don't see a connection with his military service, except that he struggled with success after he was discharged. (Sadly, that's not uncommon, but that's a different story)

Also the media is trying to create a Ft Bragg connection. There is no connection. It's like saying, "Two Air Force guys were stationed at Lackland" and trying to make a big deal about (That's because USAF basic training is at Lackland. Everyone goes there.) It's also like saying "They both ate at McDonalds" MOO MOO

Vehicle ramming attacks started in Israel because, "the security barrier is fairly effective, which makes it hard to get bombs into the country." In 2010, Inspire, the online English-language magazine produced by al-Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula, urged Mujahideen to choose "pedestrian only" locations and make sure to gain speed before ramming their vehicles into the crowd in order to "achieve maximum carnage".

Vehicle attacks can be carried out by lone-wolf terrorists who are inspired by an ideology but who are not working within a specific political movement or group. "Stray dogs", rather than lone wolves, characterizing them as "misfits" who are "moved from seething anger to spontaneous deadly action" by exposure to Islamist propaganda. A 2014 propaganda video by ISIL encouraged French sympathizers to use cars to run down civilians.

The older model where members of groups like al-Qaeda would "plan and train together before going to carry out an attack, became defunct around 2005", due to increased surveillance by Western security agencies.

What are the thoughts of a class action suit against New Orleans for negligence with security? Have a feeling there are some hard hitting attorney's sitting by the phone. All JMO

Attorneys know that accountability is needed to protect people in the future with proper reinforcements for feeling safe.

The fact that they were having a major event without proper safety guards in place says alot about their leadership. The FQ will be wild and crazy as usual after the game so they know what to expect.

I’m still bothered about the game being held today. “The show must go on” is not what the victims families want to hear. Their world as they knew it has stopped.

RSBM.

I agree. And I think the recommender algorithms on various social media sites drive this faster. I think it's a phenomena that needs to be considered a part of the bigger whole as we continue to see attacks similar to these. Here's a wikipedia entry that explains algorithmic radicalization.

Of course, there are many other factors [that are often] involved (mental health, economic issues, racial/religious/social issues, access to materials, etc...) in this or similar attacks that occur.

All MOO.

The Ford F-150 owner is not the attacker. The F150 used in the attack was rented by Shamsud Din Jabbar, via Turo. From the information here, I believe the correct facts are the F150 legal owner also has another vehicle, and both of his vehicles had crossing the US border. This does NOT mean the second vehicle is involved in anything nefarious. The owner could be renting two vehicles via Turo as a money maker, or rent one and drive the other. The boarder crossing by vehicles has nothing to do with Shamsud Din Jabbar.

As for the purported other people involved, IMO the FBI seems to have really botched many public announcements about the case.

This is so negligent. There may be friends and family still in the hotels lining Bourbon Street. How are they going to feel hearing the brass band in celebration of reopening the area??

They could have gone through with the game but keep the areas of the carnage respectively closed.

It’s about the dollars, not the victims and their families.

"We do not assess, at this point, that anyone else is involved in this attack, except for Shamsud-Din Jabbar," Raia said.

Raia said the FBI located two IEDs in the French Quarter, and it obtained video footage that showed Jabbar placing coolers containing the IEDs at different locations around the French Quarter before the attack.

After placing the explosive devices, Jabbar then changed clothes, multiple law enforcement sources told ABC News. ABC News said the FBI is still investigating whether there were individuals Jabbar spoke to or messaged with prior to the early Wednesday attack, but no one was in the vicinity to help him do anything, the sources said
