People are beginning to gather around and walk the French Quarter. Glad to see this wonderful city [rich with culture] reopen.

Good to see we dont stop living our lives because of the evil among us/bad actors will remain unfortunately.

Stay safe and be aware of your surroundings. If you see something, hear something, say something, please. Call it out to LE. That's today's world we live in.

moo

My thoughts go to the families of the loved ones who lost their lives way too soon. A hurt that cant be healed. Its unfair.

Interesting @Elley Mae ….. and raises a next question IMO in the investigation of this horrid act - when did the now dead suspect place that flag? And who if anyone was aware of that? Did it happen just moments before? Maybe further investigation is warranted into this? MOO
I have been a member of this platform for a while but never have I been personally involved in a topic.

This is MOO my personal family experience perspective of this terrorist attack.

To start off.
My sister survived this attack.

First off, I’d like to share that she texted me early in the night to reassure me of the excessive police presence. That she felt very good about it and safe that night and that the city was really making a huge effort to keep people safe for new years.

As we all know now. It wasn’t going to be enough to stop the attack that was unfortunately coming.

She was in the hotel /bar first floor directly to the right where he crashed into the crane and then stepped out the truck and began to fire. (The image circulating media of crash location) She saw everything. Except him driving down the street running over innocent people moments prior. After she heard and saw the Crash into the crane she looked over the bar out to attempt to see what In the world the crash and commotion was and immediately heard significant amounts of gunfire. It was the amount of gunfire that was her and others initial realization something really terrible was happening just feet from her. We now know this is when he began to immediately fire upon others and LE following the crash. As shots began , she immediately instinctively hit the ground face down with others and army crawled to a nearby very small utility/supply closet to hide and take cover with two others. Others in the bar began dive and jump over anything they could to seek cover as well. While locked in the extremely small closet she continues hearing more gunfire briefly but mainly screams and cry’s of pure terror from others. Again. This happened very quickly and gunfire didn’t last very long.

According to her. Upon gunfire ending and waiting a few minutes to make sure it was okay to come out… she decided to come out of closet and stepped outside to see the absolute horrific scene. Dead bodies, many mangled bodies and A large number of injured people.

But most importantly she saw the Isis flag. Hanging from the back of the crashed truck. The doors where she walked out, lined up almost directly to the back of the truck where the flag was hanging. She didn’t immediately connect it to Isis but it registered to her in that moment as a terrorist flag. I cannot say when it was hung. But it was hung during the attack. Others saw it as well. Which was when LE and others forced her back inside to take cover and find safety in case the attack was not over. Then someone with her confirmed he saw the flag and was sure it Isis and he was certain of it. This amplified everyone’s fear.

What she saw on that street, carnage, terror the absolute worst brutality and human suffering you can imagine. No one should ever see. And can never unsee. I just can’t stress enough that in her details everything just happened so very fast followed by horror and confusion and helplessness and fear.

I’m extremely grateful she wasn’t injured and miraculously managed to stay calm and level headed.

I’d personally like to thank god, and all the LE and good samaritans there that risked their lives to take out this evil terrorist and save the lives of so many others there. I cannot imagine what would have happened had the bomb device in his truck detonated. That thought chills me to the my core.

I pray that the FBI uncovers every aspect of this attack and any all involved are brought to justice.

My genuine thoughts and prayers are with all of the victims, their families and those who witnessed or were apart of this attack.

I pray for safety, healing , peace and justice for everyone involved.

The last video is somewhat graphic although no one is visibly struck down.
The perp, already going fast, appeared to be speeding up.
However, at the start of the clip, it looks like the truck is bouncing a little and maybe driving over people.
Idk.

Many were wounded and I hope they can heal swiftly, physically and emotionally.
Some people are never the same after an attack like this.
The ramifications of this monster's evil act will linger for years ; especially for those who will never see their loved ones again.
Omo.

I think it makes more sense than them going into a traditional car rental company, with cameras and staff they'd have to interact with. Sounds like this app is hands off, with a code to access the car. Like an air bnb vs a traditional hotel or motel.

MOO
I know how it works, neither would have set off red flags from renting at Hertz, Enterprises, Home Depot,or UHaul for that matter. Nor does it look like either thought they would survive

Nearly a year before he allegedly killed 14 people and injured dozens more by driving a pickup truck flying an Islamic State (IS) flag through a crowd of New Year’s revelers in New Orleans, Shamsud-Din Jabbar expressed his beliefs that music, intoxicants, sex and other pleasures were evils deserving of destruction.

An account on the SoundCloud platform under the name of Jabbar posted three recordings totaling about 20 minutes each containing those and other expressions of extremist religious views.

Thankful your sister survived !
I hope she'll be ok in the future.
I can't imagine trying to process witnessing this violent act. :(
Imo.

Theory : One can see why Shamsud D.J. was twice-divorced and estranged from family.
At some point, they could no longer tolerate his bull shizzle and rage.
Maybe, just maybe they were more tolerant in their worldviews and he ruined every family gathering with his ranting ?
Omo.

In one of the videos, according to the FBI, Jabbar said he originally planned to harm his family and friends, but was concerned the news headlines would not focus on "the war between the believers and disbelievers."

Jabbar also stated in the video that he joined ISIS before this past summer and provided a will and testament.

*ok, so this war... what exactly does that mean? A religious war? A war between Muslims - or - a war between Muslims & everybody else? Is everyone else the infidel? Believers of what or who exactly? ISIS? He really didn't say for sure. *I sure do wanna watch those videos.

Thank you. That really means a lot to me. I just cannot stop thinking about the explosive device in the back of his truck that by some miracle it didn’t detonate or go off. Grateful that it didn’t is an understatement. The idea of How close we came to losing her if that would have happened is tough right now.

She is still in shock and navigating her emotions and trauma. It hasn’t fully set in yet. She has a huge support system and we are trying to support her to the best of our abilities right now. She is a firm believer in the importance of mental health and plans to seek therapy and help in that area in the coming days, weeks and months.

Again thank you for your kind words and support. ❤️

"I heard parents screaming and crying this afternoon. It just broke my heart," Cathy Tenedorio said, describing the agony of waiting to learn their son's fate.

Very compassionate of her to feel for the other parents ... while waiting and fearing for their own son. :(

Some nice photos of the victims at the link.

Rest in eternal peace :

Kareem
Tiger
Cheyenne
Hubert
Reggie
Nicole
Matthew

And the as-yet unnamed victims.

My utmost condolences for the loss of those precious lives !

Some more pics at the DM link :

They all had so much life left to live.
Tiger is from my community. The Catholic high school he attended held a prayer vigil. The priest went to New Orleans to be with his family.

This is so negligent. There may be friends and family still in the hotels lining Bourbon Street. How are they going to feel hearing the brass band in celebration of reopening the area??

They could have gone through with the game but keep the areas of the carnage respectively closed.

It’s about the dollars, not the victims and their families.

I don't think that's entirely accurate if you read the descriptions:

In a solemn tribute to the victims, 14 yellow roses were laid at the site of the attack, and a brass second-line band performed "I'll Fly Away" as part of the ceremony.

Kirkpatrick said showing respect and honoring the victims is important. Fourteen yellow roses were laid down for the victims to honor them.

"We walked down this street to show honor and respect," Kirkpatrick said. "And memories will always be there. People did not die in vain."

She added that the tragedy has prompted stronger security measures, making New Orleans and the nation safer. "Their deaths are not in vain and that is our balance," Kirkpatrick said.

Kirkpatrick said law enforcement and officials will return and restore normalcy. She said we can do that and still show respect and honor for those who lost their lives.

ETA: The tradition of a funeral procession/honor with brass instruments is very much associated with New Orleans too.

I hope they don't make any knee-jerk reactions about new barriers that fail to consider the need for crowd egress. Building code takes into consideration maximum occupancy of a space, numbers of exits, width of exits. They also have to think about people with disabilities navigating the space. If it is very narrow, it could be probably for wheelchair users.

Having the bollards implies the city acknowledged need for safety in that public area. Maybe that street was shut down for a few events each year? All over America, big cities to small towns temporarily shut down streets for parades, firework celebrations, block parties and such to protect gathered pedestrians. The most common risk being unaware drivers.
Again the driver drove up on the sidewalk the bollards only blocked the street

The governor countered by posting, “It’s important to understand that we have many visitors in the city of New Orleans right now. Safety is our top priority and we want our guests and the world to know that Louisiana does not cower to radical islamic terrorists. Our restaurants and all New Orleans has to offer remain open for business!”

“You should delete this post! It’s incredibly insensitive!” posted @Patriotmom717.

“Dude. Several of your constituents are no longer alive due to a terrorist attack and you thought going out to a steak house with friends and then posting about it was a good idea? Fire yourself,” posted @BurtMaclin_FBI.

“15 people are dead in NOLA and you’re bragging about your steak dinner?” @FaxanFM asked.
