Do we know anything about his life? Was he married? Kids? Had he been traveling to Middle Eastern countries?

I think it's kind of rare for a US veteran to become radicialized unless something bad happened in his life. And, isn't 42 kind of old to be a suicide terrorist?

Trump will have been heavily briefed by the FBI/police as part of the transition to him taking over, he will know the name of the suspect
A name doesn't indicate nationality. Trump's suname (before change) was German. Just saying...

True. How do you legislate against harmful religious indoctrination of your citizens?
Wow. That's really the question. I'm not sure our Constitution allows it.

Heartbroken for New Orleans. It has a special place in my heart: It's my wife's hometown and the place I was married. We are reaching out to everyone we know to make sure they are safe. I'm heading to the airport now and will be live on NewsNation this afternoon with the latest.

Seriously.

Look at all the people killed and injured in this latest attack. They were trying to have a good time and celebrate the New Year. Now, for many survivors and family members of the deceased, it will be remembered as the worst New Year on record.

No one has the right to do that to innocent human beings.

Like you say -- they should just pack up and leave. There's no good reason for this sort of thing.

Maybe the government should fund a get the he*l out of Dodge fund to help those folks pack up and move. On one condition--they never return.

I question if that is the suspect's birth name, and not something he changed it to later in life, like the DC Sniper. That's an example of a radicalized American citizen, just a thought. DC Sniper was also former military, IIRC

Also interesting that he stole the guns, instead of simply buying them. Potentially some reason he was unable to purchase guns (criminal record, history of mental illness, etc.), just pondering.

Great questions. I hope we find out soon.

This news about the fire breaking out at the suspects' Airbnb rental is really interesting.

I see no mention whether the fire broke out before or after the rampage.

Perhaps LE was attempting to look for evidence at the AirBnb and inadvertently set off an IED?
Maybe an accomplice set it and ran?

So, 4 IEDs were detonated. Do you suppose he was thinking he would survive driving through the crowd and then detonate them at the ball game?

All MOO, of course. But, why have them if he didn't plan on using them?

I'm watching a local news source talking about how they are vetting video of the truck entering Bourbon Street. Allegedly, there was a police car blocking Bourbon Street and the truck went around them, then onto the sidewalk, then started plowing into people.

This came from local news at WDSU. Live feed is here:

The F.B.I. has a broad definition of two kinds of terrorism: International terrorism is violent crime committed by people inspired by foreign terrorist organizations or nations, while domestic terrorism is any violent act meant to further ideological goals.

In the immediate aftermath of the New Orleans attack that killed at least 10 people and injured dozens more, there was some public confusion over whether it was a terror attack. The mayor of New Orleans at first said it was, but a local F.B.I. official countered that it was not. Attorney General Merrick B. Garland and F.B.I. officials in Washington then said they were in fact investigating the incident as terrorism.

A Ford F-150 Lightning truck driven by the suspect in a deadly attack during New Year celebrations in New Orleans has ties to the Houston area, sources confirmed to ABC Houston affiliate KTRK

The electric truck with Texas plates was rented via the app Turo, a vehicle-sharing platform, from a man in Houston. Sources say the truck was then observed Tuesday in north Harris County around Treaschwig Road and Aldine Westfield Road around 10:15 a.m., and then again at 11:10 a.m.

What has to go wrong for you to go from living as a productive citizen for decades to deciding to check out by murdering scores of innocent people at random? School shooters seem to have the same urge.

BBM This makes more sense to me. I have been questioning the fact that barriers were down. Maybe LE removed the barriers but had police cars and police blocking. The way this went down may have not been his original plan. All JMO
