11Alive's Molly Oak spoke with several UGA fans at Atlanta's Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport on Thursday afternoon after two flights from New Orleans landed in Atlanta.

Some UGA fans spoke with 11Alive off-camera, saying there weren't too many Georgia fans on their flight and that most of the people that they knew ended up staying for the game.

Those who flew home said they had to come back early for work or other obligations.

A couple said they were right across the street from where the deadly attack happened, saying it was a very scary and sad situation. A New Orleans native began crying, saying how much her heart hurts for her city and everyone involved.

I'm not going to let him off that easy, if his choice was to join ISIS, a violent terrorist organisation. I'm not going to try and justify these sadistic, cruel actions. Driving a truck over the top of innocent people is not something to take lightly and then try to explain away because he had marriage and financial troubles. Who doesn't?
Who's letting him off easy? He's a mass murderer. Nobody is letting him off easy. But I wonder whether the ISIS flag is just a prop he used to not only kill people but to strike fear in the hearts of Americans because of the visceral reaction they have to it. It's the same as carrying a swastika. Two hundred overweight incels marching down the street bitching about the lack of female companionship doesn't have much of an effect but put a Nazi flag in their hands, then the whole vibe changes. It's called marketing.

"I’m assuming I got hit by the truck, but honestly, nobody’s ever told me that, so I don’t know," Sensky said. "But my wheelchair was completely bashed and the pieces were all over the place, so something hit me."

Everything happened so quickly, he said. One moment he was turning around and the next he was on the ground in the middle of the sound of gunfire coming in different directions.

"I just heard screaming and I heard gunfire," he recalled.

He couldn't find his phone, so Sensky began screaming for help.

"No one would come, and so I pushed myself on my back, and I saw people, and they were taking pictures from the balcony, and I was screaming out for help and people were just looking at me," Sensky said.

A cop named Patrick eventually walked over to him and explained that many people were dead, Sensky recalled. The officer told Sensky that he “was lucky to be alive.”

"I kept asking for someone to help me and get me out of there and it took a while," Sensky said. "I realized that it was a bad scene."

Sensky, who was paralyzed from the waist down prior to the attack, doesn't believe that anyone realized he couldn't walk as they took in the chaos of the scene. Eventually, he was carried to an ambulance and taken to the hospital where he underwent surgery.

His right leg was broken in a "million pieces," but Sensky also said it saved him.

Never mind all the focus on how security failed, we need to be very concerned how we can have people with such views in our military and they go undetected.

Both of these guys (NOLA and Vegas) were home-grown military. The alleged Vegas bomber was in our special forces. I find it terrifying to consider that there may be a large number of these individuals around.

We have all kinds of beliefs represented in the military. I agree we need to get a handle on how home-grown gets grown across all extreme ideologies. -Ists and -isms continue to rise in prevalence. JMHO.

I saw a wheelchair to the right of the truck, was going to mention it but didn’t.

Glad he’s alive.

I’m currently watching CNN. Wolf Blitzer is saying that the FBI and Homeland Security had sent out internal documents regarding the possibility of soft targets being attacked over the holidays, through knife attacks and vehicle ramming.

I imagine that LE all over America were the recipients of these warnings.

All I can say, to be repetitive, is metal detectors and frozen zones. Metal detectors; frozen zones.

Then the car wouldn’t have been able to access the streets nor sidewalks at all. Not with a knife, a gun, or a vehicle.

I recall several years ago that a terrorist ran over a group of mainly tourists who were bicycling on the West Side Highway in Manhattan. He used a truck.

Clearly it’s impossible to ward off every possibility, such as attacking bicyclists, or an airplane attack prior to 9/11.

Lone wolves are unpredictable, but best practices should be put into place as much as conceivably possible.

A holiday in a crowded, tourist-happy place is an irresistible siren call to these disturbed people.

Frozen zones, metal detectors.

Do what can be done to ward off a possibly foreseeable attack.

"Thoughts and prayers" really makes me grind my teeth with the uselessness of it as a platitude in the aftermath of a mass casualty attack, but I've officially found something worse. A newsreaderish "so, anyway..." smashcut promoting tourism and business.

MOO
Omg, totally insensitive. The governor completely missed the memo. Did he delete the post?

This is such a tragedy. Someone from New Orleans was talking about how he has had to teach his 10 year old to be aware, that she can't be walking around lollygagging.

I find myself sometimes being anxious when I go to my local Walmart or Dollar General. I strait straining to hear and looking for possible hiding and escape routes. Thankfully, I've always been safe.

I don't know how those who experienced this level of violence manage day to day afterwards. I just know it has to be extremely difficult. I hold them and the ones who lost their lives in a special place in my heart.

Can we all leave a little more joy out int the world as we go about our lives? Please smile, speak to, acknowledge, and notice people. It might just brighten someone's day or be their joy.

I have been a member of this platform for a while but never have I been personally involved in a topic.

This is MOO my personal family experience perspective of this terrorist attack.

To start off.
My sister survived this attack.

First off, I’d like to share that she texted me early in the night to reassure me of the excessive police presence. That she felt very good about it and safe that night and that the city was really making a huge effort to keep people safe for new years.

As we all know now. It wasn’t going to be enough to stop the attack that was unfortunately coming.

She was in the hotel /bar first floor directly to the right where he crashed into the crane and then stepped out the truck and began to fire. (The image circulating media of crash location) She saw everything. Except him driving down the street running over innocent people moments prior. After she heard and saw the Crash into the crane she looked over the bar out to attempt to see what In the world the crash and commotion was and immediately heard significant amounts of gunfire. It was the amount of gunfire that was her and others initial realization something really terrible was happening just feet from her. We now know this is when he began to immediately fire upon others and LE following the crash. As shots began , she immediately instinctively hit the ground face down with others and army crawled to a nearby very small utility/supply closet to hide and take cover with two others. Others in the bar began dive and jump over anything they could to seek cover as well. While locked in the extremely small closet she continues hearing more gunfire briefly but mainly screams and cry’s of pure terror from others. Again. This happened very quickly and gunfire didn’t last very long.

According to her. Upon gunfire ending and waiting a few minutes to make sure it was okay to come out… she decided to come out of closet and stepped outside to see the absolute horrific scene. Dead bodies, many mangled bodies and A large number of injured people.

But most importantly she saw the Isis flag. Hanging from the back of the crashed truck. The doors where she walked out, lined up almost directly to the back of the truck where the flag was hanging. She didn’t immediately connect it to Isis but it registered to her in that moment as a terrorist flag. I cannot say when it was hung. But it was hung during the attack. Others saw it as well. Which was when LE and others forced her back inside to take cover and find safety in case the attack was not over. Then someone with her confirmed he saw the flag and was sure it Isis and he was certain of it. This amplified everyone’s fear.

What she saw on that street, carnage, terror the absolute worst brutality and human suffering you can imagine. No one should ever see. And can never unsee. I just can’t stress enough that in her details everything just happened so very fast followed by horror and confusion and helplessness and fear.

I’m extremely grateful she wasn’t injured and miraculously managed to stay calm and level headed.

I’d personally like to thank god, and all the LE and good samaritans there that risked their lives to take out this evil terrorist and save the lives of so many others there. I cannot imagine what would have happened had the bomb device in his truck detonated. That thought chills me to the my core.

I pray that the FBI uncovers every aspect of this attack and any all involved are brought to justice.

My genuine thoughts and prayers are with all of the victims, their families and those who witnessed or were apart of this attack.

I pray for safety, healing , peace and justice for everyone involved.

Was she a visiting tourist?

Saipov, a terrorist, used a truck to run over several cyclists.
2017.

It's one of the reasons, huge concrete blocks are along the Greenway to prevent this from happening again.

Well…..that’s the dumbest thing I may have ever heard.
Correct me if I heard this wrong, but at the press conference yesterday, were we not told that LE had found two confirmed IEDs that had been rendered safe, and may have found others that were not confirmed.
If you’ve got two devices disarmed, somebody put them there. Guy driving a big #ss truck with an ISIS flag on the back probably wasn’t stopping on street corners doing this.
So, either LE is making wild and inaccurate statements at a very serious moment, or LE is incapable of telling the difference between an IED and a bag of ice. That instills confidence doesn’t it.
This has happened a lot lately; big criminal something happens, others are involved, be on the lookout, red alert!, red alert!, oh never mind, just this one guy.
What exactly IS going on? Explain why you now believe no others are involved. Explain why you believed it earlier.
Maybe he got no help at the site of his actual attack, but he certainly got help planning and along the way, in my opinion.

I believe (Just MHO) that in the early stages of the investigation it is not unusual for LE NOT to give away all it has about an investigation. People often want it both ways--- tell us all you know and speculate AND be accurate and 100% correct. They were trying to go slow yesterday as they already must have had a line on his address and motives. Buying more time seems to be something that can be difficult to deal with as things unfold. Hence, we get sources for X and sources for Y. Don't know the right answer but in this case it seems like holding information a bit longer would have reduced the anxiety of "acting with others versus alone" as it is hard to walk back almost anything when folks get a tidbit. Again, JMHO.

In one of the videos, according to the FBI, Jabbar said he originally planned to harm his family and friends, but was concerned the news headlines would not focus on "the war between the believers and disbelievers."

Jabbar also stated in the video that he joined ISIS before this past summer and provided a will and testament.

*ok, so this war... what exactly does that mean? A religious war? A war between Muslims - or - a war between Muslims & everybody else? Is everyone else the infidel? Believers of what or who exactly? ISIS? He really didn't say for sure. *I sure do wanna watch those videos.

If he really was planning on harming his family, this suggests something very idiosyncratic. Was he going to harm his family because he thought they were unbelievers? Is this essentially a case of redirected family violence?

There was a terror attack in Stockholm ( where i live ) in 2017 . Truck drove into the main shopping street killing 5 people. Now they put concrete lion statues to prevent cars going in.

The last quote from the open page of the Quran reads, “they fight in His [Allah’s] cause, and slay and are slain; a promise binding…”

An engineer who worked on the bollard replacement project, who spoke to NBC News on the condition of anonymity because the team was not authorized to speak publicly, said there was “a mad dash to rush this job” so it could be done in time for the Super Bowl, scheduled for Feb. 9.
bollards new orleans terror attack

New Orleans plans to replace the bollards on Bourbon Street from Canal Street to St. Ann Street with “new removable stainless-steel bollards” that could be securely locked behind each crosswalk, according to the city website.

“Soon malfunctioned”??? Did they think to test a few to see if they worked??

The police found them to be “insufficient” What did they do with them?

Was the ball dropped on this?
