I can't even imagine how scary it must be.

Time to evacuate, what do you get? I mean... if someone said "Your house may explode" like - you don't know WHEN. Do you go back in to get those last few things or GTFO!?

GAH. Mortifying. I can't even imagine.

OMG
The live news is mentioning that they turned off the electric now to 3 whole communities as a safety precaution. So even though that is probably the right thing to do it now compounds the problem. There is now a total blackout in these 3 huge communities.

Andover
North Andover
Lawrence

There are thousands of people now without power as it is getting dark outside. The highways around there are at a standstill.

OMG. This is a major disaster. Caused by human error. May have been a single worker making a mistake. Incredible !

Over 39 homes involved in the fires or explosions and now thousands without power as it gets dark. WOW

its up to 50

Yeah, I updated my post. They said the number of homes affected will continue to grow. They're having the electric power company shut of electricity to all those cities now to lower risks of more explosions.

Good gawd! Timing of it couldn't be worse. Most folks getting home from work etc.

And at the same time, there are mass evacuations down the coast due to hurricane Florence. This is just crazy!

I hope there are no fatalities and no serious injuries.

Me too I'm concerned about Men, Women, Children, the Elderly and any pets that may be injured.

I really, REALLY hope that they aren't going to find that someone did this on purpose. :/ Is that even possible?

its strange we all do a lot of strange stuff together but this is really hard to comprehend

trying to figure out why so widespread as opposed to a lot in one area

the only thing I am coming back with is like a huge pressure surge and old hookups gave loose cause if it was a fire actually in the line wouldnt it be more in a row ??

why is it so scattered and widespread ?

This is about 30 miles north of Boston, btw.

hi gregg

did i here you correctly when you said you are on your way to america!!

National news is stuck on hurricane coverage.
Yes. I tuned into to my NPR radio station at the top of the hour. Top story was local politics, followed by hurricane coverage. Story #3 was Boston. That surprised me.

THEN

where do you go? which direction is not gonna blow up

presser delayed

and then when and how do you know when it is "safe" how do you determine that in such a large area

one mistake and it could start again

Something similar happened out in CA several years ago. It was due to mistakes by the gas utility company.

San Bruno pipeline explosion - Wikipedia

Since the MA gas company announced they were to begin upgrades on their system today, it sounds like some kind of error or failure on their part.

The poor pets that are in some of these homes and also the pets that are now in the thousands of homes that have no power as it gets dark.

News is saying they are blocking roads and are not letting people off on certain exits so lots of people wont be able to get home to their scared pets.

Reporting TENS OF THOUSANDS of people affected by the power outage.

OMG

Thank goodness it wasn't the middle of the night, I suppose. But I think you GTFO.

Twitter

MSP Fusion Center has current updated tally of responses to fires/explosions/investigations of gas odor at 70. Spread over wide swath of south
#Lawrence
and northern part of
#NorthAndover
with several others across Merrimack River in north Lawrence.

The number is up to 70, but that includes reports of gas odor, too, not necessarily fire or explosion.
