I've not been able to find any truly convincing explanation for why AJ whiffed on the Proctor question. The way it played was miles better for Brennan than the version of the trial Lally got. Sure the texts came in, but as Bederow notes, Yannetti blundered by allowing Brennan to read them first. And you don't get to fishing expedition into Proctor's bias and alleged framing.

Don't understand why the defense did it that way, and it seems the defense let the DA off the hook with Proctor, but once again, the re-cross of Brennan doesn't land and makes it a little worse for him.

This seems to be the general consensus every where. I have a feeling the jurors are not feeling HB this morning.

Why won’t the defense just call Proctor?

Because then Brennan will be able to cross examine him, rather than direct and he could ask leading questions to Proctor which would have otherwise been objected to by the defense if Brennan had called him.

We saw the effect of this somewhat yesterday when Dever was called. It would be a huge disadvantage to the defense if they have to call him themselves.

The defense’s tactics have been a disgrace. Russell doesnt address the jury when testifying, only makes interesting facial expressions toward ADA Brennan. The dog issue is a moot point. jmo
