Have the police gone through her phone records to see if there was any activity after she was dropped off at her house? Have they searched the neighborhood with dogs?
Welcome to Websleuths, detectorhector. :)

I wonder if she did any nature hikes/walking. Burrage pond wildlife management area is not too far from there. The authorities should check in there. She may have gotten lost/injured. She still would have needed a ride there though. Depends upon her physical ability.

I read in one of the stories that she is an avid walker. There are lots of ponds in the area where she lives. My question is/was - if you go out for a walk - would you take your purse? Would you take id? Maybe it depends on the size of your purse? If only that dog could talk.

Welcome to Websleuths, Miriam Walsh! :)

I can't remember now - do we know what kind of dog she had? I am thinking about one of our members here who always takes her dog with her when she hikes. I would not do so because mine are too little but I wonder what kind Sandra had. ? MOO

I definitely think she's in burrage.

A boy named James Rogers also disappeared in that area in 1981

If I was stuck home all day without the car, I'd definitely be heading over there for a leisurely walk.

But when the police say they searched the area, and with dogs--I'd think that would be a prime area to search.

I agree. They said they searched anywhere she could have walked to and don’t think she’s in the area. I remember something about searching the “woods” by her house. But then again that’s a very large area with a lot of water. She could still be in there.

Burrage Pond park has a lot of trails, which would be appealing to an avid walker. Doesn't appear to be many other places to walk in the neighborhood, other than main roads. Attached map and link showing trail network and circled location near Sandra's house/street. It is almost a mile to the official access/trailhead, but I would guess there are cut thoughs close to her house. There are also numerous cranberry bogs surrounding the park, which start to get filled with water after Labor Day for the fall harvest.

If Sandra was in the area and suffered an accidental fate, I think she would have been found by now; by searchers or dog walkers.

Burrage Pond

Burrage Pond is a 1,638 acre wildlife management area. It was created in 2002 when the state purchased land used for cranberry bogs. This means 90% of the trails are completely flat double track which makes for very easy mountain biking. It's the perfect place to introduce newer riders to the sport, or for families who's children are riding on small wheeled bikes.

The main park is completely open with a large pond on one side and bogs on the other making for great scenery. Some trails go into the woods where they turn into narrower single track. The woods trails are still flat and smooth with few roots, rocks or muddy areas to deal with. There are at least 15 miles of trail. This makes for a great beginner riding area.

However, there's a vast network of trails linking into Burrage Pond. After a ride or two go exploring. You won't be disappointed and you'll find many more miles of trails.

This is a great park for viewing wildlife. Birders come from all over to check out the birds, wood ducks, geese and Ospreys. A bald eagle has been known to visit a few years. Bass fishing is popular in the ponds. Lots of turtles including snappers abound in the marshy areas and deer can be seen in the early morning.

great new thoughts here today for Sandra. I can imagine a walk without my ID, but not without my dog. Everyone's different though.

41 days.

I don't think she went for a walk because her lights were on and the back door was unlocked. That tells me she went out at night and planned on not being gone for long. I noticed there is a package store walking distance from her house. I'm wondering if she decided to walk there and was abducted.

I think we may have as many different ideas of "walking distance"as we have about a woman this age not having a cell phone. IMO it is just as likely that she went for a walk that it is for her to have walked to the packaging store.

That said, do I think she walked anywhere? I have no idea. I want to let the facts talk rather than the theory, and we need more of the former, IMO.

I am more interested in the condition her bed was found in . Why had all the boards had been removed?

Family fears foul play involved in disappearance of grandmother missing 40 days from Massachusetts home

I know these questions have come up. It says in this article that the dog was acting strange / not usual behavior. It also states that she took her purse. Another thing worth noting for locals is that Sandra is on the tall side at 5’9”. I hope they find out something more soon. This poor family.
I don't think we know that she took her purse, just that it was gone when her daughter went inside the house. MOO

It's a fact her lights were left on. People turn on their lights at night. I really don't think it's as likely that she decided to go walking through the woods at night as it would be for her to go to the package (not packaging) store. (A package store is a liquor store.) I doubt we'll learn many new facts. It's been over 40 days.

Good point! Was there a link that stated that her ID was left in the house? I know there has been a lot of discussion about it.

Where would you go on foot at dusk or at night taking your purse but not your dog? When you have a dog it can be a problem leaving them alone for too long. It's also more convenient to take the dog if you're walking somewhere anyway, so he might be more relaxed later on when you want to retire or have some quiet time. So why didn't she take him?

Possible reasons
- She left voluntarily or was forced to leave with someone by car who didn't want the dog with them.
- She went to a nearby shop where dogs are not allowed inside and she didn't want to tie him outside.
- She went to visit a neighbour who wouldn't want the dog to come along.

MOO.

There is a Boston 25 FB post by Bob Ward IIRC that said her ID seemed to be missing (paraphrasing). MOO

ETA: Found it! :) Bob Ward Boston 25 News
