You are probably right. I didn't even know that meaning.
I must have misread it the first time around, thinking that they determined the pilots did not purposely try to ditch it.

No, I think you read it correctly the first time. The new report says there was a power cut, possibly due to a fire on board:

Crash investigators revealed the jet's Satellite Data Unit (SDU) had unexpectedly tried to log on to a satellite around an hour and a half after the flight took off.
This request – known as a handshake or ping – was likely to have been caused by a power failure on board.
The SDU was able to reboot itself, after the auxiliary power unit kicked to restore electricity, allowing it to send a series of subsequent pings that allowed experts to locate its final position hundreds of miles away in the southern Indian Ocean.

We really need to find the remains and the black box.

Malaysia Airlines plane starts flying in the wrong direction

An investigation has been launched after a Malaysia Airlines plane took off from Auckland Airport on Christmas Day and surprised the pilot with the direction it started flying.

Just eight minutes into the direct flight to Kuala Lumpur, MH132's pilot queried why his Airbus A330 was heading so far south.

He wondered why the plane was heading towards Melbourne and not taking a more direct flight path to the Malaysian capital.

I just came to post a link on the same story, but your link has a picture of the actual object. Mine does not. This beach is on the eastern side of the peninsular above Malaysia where the plane crossed. Could the plane have been falling apart?

Thanks for all your posts and updates. I just saw the latest it certainly looks like it could be from the main body of the plane. Hopefully it won't take long to confirm whether it is from a plane or not and if it could be from MH370.

I read about the Chinese passengers families believing their loved ones are being held captive. It's a pity grief specialists can't help them because long term it's going to cause even more distress. They won't be able to move forward which is what their loved ones would want for them. It's a nightmare situation and I can't imagine what they are going through.

Interesting. Nakhon Si Thammarat province is on the east coast, i.e. the South China Sea side of southern Thailand, which is where the plane SHOULD have been crossing, and where the oil rig dude reported seeing a plane crash. If the plane went south as per the pings it is incredibly unlikely any wreckage would wash up here. Hmmmm.

Wreckage found in Thailand unlikely to come from missing Malaysian jet

from your link
Investigators believe someone may have deliberately switched off MH370's transponder before diverting it thousands of miles off course. Most of the passengers were Chinese.

Lingering uncertainty surrounding its fate has tormented the families of those on board. Some have said even the discovery of debris would still not solve the mystery.

The fragment found in Thailand "just doesn't look like aircraft fuselage," aviation expert Geoffrey Thomas told Reuters from near Perth.

"It just doesn't make any sense," he said. "I don't think there's any connection with MH370 whatsoever."

I wonder if by "flamed out" they mean "died." So when the plane eventually ran out of fuel, the engines flamed out/died.
Flamed out could also mean "caught on fire." But in the context of that sentence, I think the engines died when fuel ran out.

Engine flame out means the engines shut down.
This likely meant after running out of fuel in this case.
