New article.

Without fresh clues, the hunt should end about June, when four ships are due to finish combing the seas off western Australia, Dolan said. Within a rectangle the size of North Korea, vessels have scoured most of the patch believed to be the likely impact point -- and come up empty.

When I see a new reply, I keep hoping that the plane was found. My heart is heavy seeing the title of the article you linked to. I hope that the new high-def sonar will find it. The families need to know where the plane is.

Missing Malaysia Jet Weeks Away From Keeping Secrets Forever -
Vessels still have to scan about 35,000 square kilometers - - an area bigger than Belgium. The newest reinforcement is a Chinese ship with high-definition sonar. The Dong Hai Jiu 101 will focus on areas of the ocean floor that are difficult to scan with conventional sonar when it arrives this month, Dolan said.

Hot Spots

Ships are rechecking about 100 locations, some of them inside an oval-shaped patch toward the southern end of the search area, Dolan said. This hot spot is most likely to contain the wreckage, according to Australia’s Defence Science and Technology Group, a government agency normally devoted to national security.

But even the most comprehensive search won’t satisfy the victims’ families if it fails.

“We are going to try as hard as we can to lobby for the search to continue beyond June,” said Grace Subathirai Nathan, 28, whose mother was a passenger. “I need an answer.”

Maybe because that's not where it is??:thinking: Not that I have any idea where it is but I find it hard to believe that there hasn't been SOME trace of it in that area if that's where it truly went down (I know that the ocean is HUGE, but just having a hard time conceiving of it).

From articles I've read, I believe the plane is covered in mud, making it blend into the ocean floor

I still think they should go back to the TomNod images from back then

MH370 is weeks away from becoming aviation’s biggest unsolved mystery since Amelia Earhart disappeared in 1937. Of the 3 million components in the jet, only one has turned up — a barnacle-encrusted wing flap — on Reunion Island, thousands of kilometers from the search. There have been no traces of the 239 people on board, their luggage or even the life jackets that were supposed to float.

“There’s always this question: Have we missed something?” Dolan, 58, said at his office in Canberra. “That’s the sort of thing that will occasionally keep me awake at night.”

Some of the world’s most experienced search-and-rescue experts increasingly accept that the 180 million Australian dollar ($130 million) search may fail. Without fresh clues, the hunt should end about June, when four ships are due to finish combing the seas off western Australia, Dolan said. Within a rectangle the size of North Korea, vessels have scoured most of the patch believed to be the likely impact point — and come up empty.

I agree, I remember one Tomnod image in particular, looked like dozens of blue seats bobbing in the water. However, it was not long after the search started in that area, and I'm sure they'd have washed up somewhere by now.

I don't know if you would find many people prepared to die for their job but I respect your any everybody's opinions any discussion is appreciated. Sadly I think this is one case that will never be solved I never thought this case would turn out to be such a mystery when starting the initial thread. It's tragic 239 families still have no answers and cannot grieve properly.

Who says they volunteered to die for their jobs? I don't believe that at all.

They should go back to images like that, mark the coordinates on a map to see where they were in relation to where is being searched now.

This was the Tomnod image, I followed the guy who found it on Twitter for a while, I don't think much came of it but it seemed like a possibility at the time. Might have been a hoax?

Speaking of hoaxes - did you hear the one about pilot Shah turning up alive with amnesia in Taiwan?? Spotted it last week but it was quickly debunked.

Hadn't heard that one. I'm not usually much of a conspiracy theorist but this case certainly has me scratching my head. Maybe it really was him! :waitasec: ;-)

Haha Thanks for the links! :) I don't actually think it was him... but at this point I'm not sure anything would really "surprise" me anymore...

At this stage in the mystery, nothing would surprise me!

The Today Show just reported that a new piece of debris possibly from MH370 may have been found on the African coast of Mozambique.

The object has the words "NO STEP" on it and could be from the plane's horizontal stabilizer — the wing-like parts attached to the tail, sources say. It was discovered by an American who has been blogging about the search for MH370.

If this is true does it mean the plane has started to break up? I feel the only way it will be found is if there starts being a stream of parts washing up as it disintegrates further and they can track it back somehow.

But perhaps these bits snapped off on impact? (not sure if that's viable as have forgotten what the first piece was).

Still no bloody mangosteens though eh...

Either breaking up, or it has always been floating from impact. Right now there are possibly 2 small parts found.
Really hope they find it in the last section they check because it sounds like they're in the right place

Found an article that says the flaperon wasn't floating, it was under the water line till it washed up according to barnacles on it.

(CNN)A piece of wreckage from a Boeing 777 -- likely from MH370 -- was found washed ashore over the weekend on the coast of Mozambique, a U.S. official told CNN on Wednesday.

The newly discovered debris is on its way to Malaysia for further examination. The wreckage is a piece of horizontal stabilizer skin, the U.S. official said.

A second aviation source says there's no record of any Boeing 777 missing other than Malaysia Airlines Flight 370, which disappeared on March 8, 2014, with 239 people on board.

The mystery of what happened to the plane remains unsolved. The search has turned up some aircraft debris, but also false leads.

Debris found in Thailand in mid-January turned out not to be from MH370.

In September, French investigators confirmed that aircraft debris found on Reunion Island in July was from the missing Malaysia Airlines plane.
