I have always believed it was a catastrophic event - either fire, explosion, or mechanical failure.

The one thing that doesn't make sense with the mechanical failure theory is that the plane continued to fly for quite some time before crashing. What kind of mechanical issues would allow the plane to fly until gas ran out?

That being said mechanical failure is still on my list of theories.

IMO

SBM

I believe this is the one from Mozambique that the teenage boy found while on vacation and took back home with him. It was part of the wing.

Thanks for posting all the pictures again. I am a visual person also.

You're very welcome. Thank you for figuring out what the part is. I had links open last night with articles but ended up losing everything. Will try to find it again next chance I get. I'm thinking of doing an album with the news articles for each photo.

Yesterday, a piece of debris was found washed up on Kangaroo Island, which is an island not too far away from where I live in the state of South Australia. The island is part of South Australia.
The ATSB are collecting the debris to examine it as a possible part of MH370.
The piece is slightly larger than a shoe box.

There is a short news video about it in this link, they are saying possibly part of a plane's wing.

Further to my post above, Kangaroo Island is a long way away from the presumed crash zone - more than 2,000 miles away - but a local says that it is on the drift path from that area and 2 years of drifting would make sense as a time period for debris to reach Kangaroo Island.
It is in the opposite direction to where other debris has been found.

Glad that he was gathering driftwood out there on the island and realized what he had found. It looks like a pretty good hunk of debris. It is good that debris is starting to turn up. After two years of floating around, it should either land somewhere or sink.

With another plane having crashed nearby, it'll be a wait and see to see to which one it is connected to. Thankfully, it shouldn't take too long to transport it to the ASTB for investigation. There's been no word to confirm if the other four pieces have even arrived yet?
Do they transport them by plane, ship or mail?

New pieces of debris found on Riake beach, on the island of Nosy Boraha in northeast Madagascar by the same person who discovered another piece on Mozambique.

Everything I have read says that they fly the debris to Australia. But I believe it goes first to other officials ... and then on to Australia for final analysis. Leads to big delays. Everyone has to have a look, take photos, do who-knows-what first.
For example, pieces found in early March were finally reported as 'likely being from MH370' by the ATSB in late May.

An official in Mozambique's Foreign Ministry said the fragment would be examined in the capital Maputo by Malaysian and US experts, before being flown to Australia for further analysis.

BBC reporting part of a plane seat has been washed up on Madagascar. Blaine Gibson found it, he is the man who found previous pieces "This is a man who is now dedicating himself to travelling the globe, finding possible pieces of MH370. He doesn't get involved with the conspiracy theories, he just wants to find evidence"

http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-asia-36495617

If it IS the plane seat (looks like headrest to me) it means the cabin is now open to the elements and there will be lots more to surface.

EDIT sorry, watcher, just seen you already posted this article!

Really blows me away. How long ago did we wonder if Australian beaches were being searched for debris, then someone found a wet wipe? THEN NOTHING...

Apparently there is a lot to learn here, but will officials actually learn anything?

No problem - we're all working together to find some answers to this mystery.

I only found about the new debris after going on line to verify the date since it's not in the thread headlines. I don't know why it's not there. Anyway, I didn't want to lose my reply so I posted that and then read the new article and posted it.

It's just so exciting and sad at the same time to know that they are finally finding debris from the plane.

Good Morning!
I see that the date has been added to the thread heading.
Thank you.

Feeling very hopeful about all this debris being found!

Some of us have been saying this for a long time.

An Australian aviation expert says he is convinced MH370 crashed into the sea west of the Malaysian mainland without proper control by the pilots who were incapacitated by a catastrophic event on board the Malaysian Airlines Boeing 777.
and
Captain Ross said people seem to have forgotten the reports of eyewitnesses on an oil rig and yacht seeing a flaming object in the sky on the night of the disappearance, in an area west of Malaysia.

I thought the oil rig sighting was debunked.

How does this compare to what Kate saw? I do think her sighting has been taken into consideration and which helped strengthen the route they have because there was a Navy ship in the water at the same time. The route was adjusted after she turned it in. I recall reading it on that blog page. Not awake enough to recall the name

From the same article -

"The scientific theory could not allow these reports and they were discarded," he said.
New Zealander Mike McKay told authorities he saw what he believed to be a burning plane at high altitude when he was working on an oil rig off the Vietnamese coast on the night of the disappearance.

Was she on the yacht or the cruise liner?

From the same article -

A woman sailing a yacht between India and Australia in early March 2014 also told authorities she saw a plane surrounded by bright orange lights and with a tail of black smoke pass above her.

Captain Ross pointed to reports that six Swiss people who were on board a cruise liner travelling between Perth and Singapore on March 12 2014 saw debris in the sea including life jackets, food trays, papers and pieces of polystyrene.
