It is quite disrespectful to the family members to have them gather and then not show up like this. These folks really, really have no idea how to handle PR!

eta: Are these not the family members?

I think he is going to come out and say, "Come back at 5:30", reminiscent of the Wizard in The Wizard of Oz. "Pay not attention to that man behind the curtain."

Pilots probably have police outside their residence to protect them from family members that think they have something to do with it.

A doctor 2care4 families tells me they're watching presser together, hear news on fate of #MH370 real time, psychiatric staff ready.

That does not sound good. Sounds like they are preparing for worst case scenario. They must know more then they are telling people at the press conference.

Something massive must be happening....

Maybe, if the hijacking info is valid, they heard from those who did it?

My heart is in my throat.

Does anyone know if the family members are able to access media reports outside of Malaysia? I know that some nations have censored interenet access.

Trying to balance the frustration of these last days and the need for transparency with the thoughts of what could be happening behind the scenes in a hijacking situation.

Imagining for a moment that this information wasn't supposed to be released yet because of negotiations, and lives hanging in the balance.

:praying: for every single soul on #MH370 and their families as we await news.

I want to give the Malaysian government / Prime Minister the benefit of the doubt here - because at this very moment, I can't wrap my head around the alternative.

:moo:

I think we will get a very short statement giving some limited, general information, likely the fate of passengers and not much more.

Yes - the leader of the country

I had to google check this. Malaysia is a "federal representative democratic constitutional monarchy". The head of state is the Yang di-Pertuan Agong and the Prime Minister is the head of government. The Yang di-Pertuan Agong is elected by the nine rulers of the Malay states, and he in turn elects the Prime Minister. Only the lower House of Parliament is elected by the people. So yeah, I guess the Prime Minister is the political leader but not the top guy.

News peeps are tweeting that the PM met with the families prior to the news conference. That's why it started late.
